  1. I'd have to agree, Ed. I would think that you would see slight fading after 25-30 years but look at how popular relicing has become. UV fade could be 'in style'. I'm just guessing though, so like Ed, someone with experience please set us straight.
  2. Deffinately my fiance. Your askin that question to a bunch of guitar builders? Even if the island had no trees I'd make one outta fish guts and bones (the guitar, wes ) if I had to but no way to replace the woman. (Oh man, I've spent too much time in the slam thread cause I can think of all kinds of 'em after that comment)
  3. and I thought Musician's Friend just sold guitars, not build them and design web-sites full of building process. Learn something new everyday!

    N00b help

Hendrix has some good heavy blues stuff like "Voodoo Chile". Stevie Ray Vaughan's version kicks but too. "Hear my train a comin" (Hendrix). Hendrix and Vaughan's versions of 'Third Stone From The Sun'....cool octaves, minor pentatonic stuff and various trippy sounds. AC/DC... lotsa songs there covering blues and rock. Pretty easy to find sheet music or tab to 'Back in Black' album too.
  5. Here's a newbie question that i'd like to know (I think it's on topic still without high-jacking).... What if the neck pocket is just a few millimeters off from direct center? If nothing has been routed and this few millimeters is taken into the rest of the routing measurements, is it OK to install the neck this few millimeters from center? I'm starting to worry about my project not having enough wood on one side of the pocket after final sanding to install the neck dead-center. I have nothing but the rear control cavity routed. Seems like I'd be OK but I'd like to be sure before I put more time into it.
  6. Yikes! You double posted this topic If you use the search function you'll find a whole thread dedicated to this very subject. The general concensus, if I remember, was...no. But double check the thread to make sure. Welcome to the forum!
  7. Agreed. I believe that if you don't have something eye-catching then it's just another business card or free lunch punch ticket from Yum Yum Teriyaki. Once you have their attention then flipping the card over for more info is no big deal. Nice card!
  8. it's not awtever...it's whatever
  9. I'm relatively inexperienced but in my readings I've found that more than a few builders like to route the neck & pickups first then do your carve. This is my plan as well. I've even seen where some route before even shaping the body. It makes sense in that you'll have a nice flat surface for your router to sit against.
  10. IMO, i like this feature of the neck because it allows the the B & E strings to have a steeper angle over the nut which eliminates the need for a string tree. I feel that string trees cover up beautiful wood or detract from inlays and also causes another point for the strings to bind up that can lead to tuning instability. But if you meant having 4 + 2 tuner set-up then I'd agree with that but the break angle feature is still there. I also agree that the controls do seem a little bit too close together. I like that they're outta the way when playing but they seem a bit close for when you do need to use them.
  11. I can believe that! I use a coffee cup with adhesive backed sandpaper stuck to it for sanding my contours Looking forward to your final product!
  12. I'm about as new as it gets but thanks to derek's router tutorial I feel alot more confident about routing the neck pocket and found good links to order bits in the future...but don't get a big head there derek, I voted I didn't like you anyways, LoL (all in fun )
  13. Ahhh! I do see the Tele in there Cool, unique guitar you've made bigd.
  14. I usually like stained figured woods but I think flames like that would look even better on your guitar than Satch's, IMHO. Maybe you could have the flames licking down at an angle similar to the angle of the middle pickup? That's looking great! I really like that metallic copper paint.
  15. You never know. An idea of yours might just turn out to be widely used or lead to some other cool idea. Keep 'em coming!
  16. Maybe I could patent a fret that's razor blade sharp and market it to shredders. Then they'de have to learn to be precise or they'd shave off their fingertips
  17. Your guitars & photography are top notch! Keep them coming!
  18. Nice bit of info on the Koa, skibum. I should look around since I'm in Tacoma about 30 miles south of Seattle. After seeing Draks wood (hehe) I'd like to try some out. Beautiful top Drak. I'd love to see that 3D effect in person since pics only show a little bit of the true beauty. (but your photography skills still do a great job at showing it).
  19. It does seem to be alot of marketing hype to me. It also looks like the fret would wear a little quicker with all the string contact on such a small point, so you'd need to have this guy dress the frets more often but I would have to play one for awhile to see how big a difference it would make (but I won't). Seems like he's talking about fixing problems that are very minor and only a handful of people would ever notice. The majority of most markets seems like they cater to gulible people...I've been one and probably will be again. but not with that product.
  20. RANT RANT RANT...Defensive post, blah blah blah <-----Total rubbish post pulled by author You talking about 60 cycle hum? I wouldn' think that it works fine then. I thought you were in the USA? Why would you use a supply with 240v input? I would rather be wrong telling him not to use it rather than being wrong if he did - 'better safe than sorry' as they say. <-----More defensive BS post
  21. At first it sounded a little like the effect used on 'American Woman' by Steppenwolf but then the weird phaser sounding stuff kicked in. That sounds like a fun effect.

    Gender test

Must... resist... "dermal recorder" comment! ...and by that I mean a biometric instrument that records fingerprints . HAHAHA! *Checks to make sure fiance isn't reading over shoulder* ...all clear! I wouldn't keep the fiance around if she didn't play my instrument.
  23. I agree. Without you here I wouldn't feel nearly as smart as I do with you here. Oh, wait. That's slam thread material...oh well. Nice router tut...for a Canadian. DoH! there I go again!
  24. Too much current. Don't use it. ^^^Stupid Comment. Posted before reading thoroughly
