  1. I'm sure that its has been done before. Your frets should stay in perfectly fine since you are only going to be removing maybe 1/8" of the tangs off the ends of the frets. Shouldn't have anything to worry about.
  2. Ah, okay, after further inspection I see that now. Doh!
  3. Wow, very cool. Looks GREAT! What type of bridge is that? A low profile TOM?
  4. asm: He never mention MIMF. Beside, MIMF is a great source of information. I do sort of agree with you with the fact that many of them are "traditional" guys but there are also some more "radical" ones that hang out there. The only time they are asses is when someone posts before reading the New User FAQ that either answers their questions or tells them to search the Library, which many times will also answer their questions. Many of the guys on there -- such as Bill Moll -- are really nice. They use that forum software so they don't have to have someone else host it for them.
  5. You really can go MUCH cheaper if you build your own computer. I urge you that if you are tech savvy and comfortable enough with it then you should build your own. If you want I could give some prices and example of what you might need (minus the specialized sounds cards, etc) to build a perfectly good recording computer.
  6. Thats one of the biggest problems I had when I was building my bass. What tools did you use for the nut channel?
  7. The next should be fine. It looks like a neck angle to me. Take a look at ESP bolt on necks, they all (that I have seen) have a neck angle like that. Can't really tell whats going on with the bridge. Some better pictures would be nice. All in all it doesn't look like it should be that difficult to fix.
  8. Rip off? Looks like a good price to me for Brazilian Rosewood.
  9. Is it that squel that Zakk Wilde always plays (too often, imo)? If so, yes, its a pinched harmonic/pick squel, etc.
  10. Knowing how to read music (not TABS!!) is very important. I wouldn't be the bass player that I am today if I hadn't been in band for 3 years before I started playing. Music notation is easy once you learn. Unfortunately (at least for me), it seemed nearly impossible when I first started.
  11. You CAN use a TOM bridge, but you will either have to use a neck angle or have the fretboard a lot higher than the body. Another alternative is recessing the bridge, but a neck angle would probably be easier. As for the part number, no clue. Stewmac.com has a good selection of bridges, though.
  12. is that to me? Curtis Forbidden You don't have permission to access /images/smilies/woot.gif on this server. 13. A good, cheap alternative to maple or alder or mahogany is poplar.
  14. Would you be willing to sell that jazz bass once you finish it???

  16. This has been talked about before. I think that the consensus was that the sound quality would not be satisfactory.
  17. Here is the first online retailer that I found that sells the Fernandes Sustainer pickup: http://www.aampselectricguitarstore.com/fe..._sustainer.html Hope that helps.
  18. I would say that the Saga kits would be a great way to begin. For the price, the hardware and electronics in the kits are really pretty good. All in all, from what I hear, for the price the Saga kits are pretty nice.
  19. I highly doubt that a guitar building class will involve laminated necks or bodies. Most likely the guitars will be a variant on a Fender design. Personally, it took me 5 months to build my guitar. Of course, my only instructor were the PG forums and MIMF.
  20. Um... piezoelectrical devices are NOT merely limited to guitar pickups. I was just curious what the rough translation of piezo was since obviously, electric and piezoelectric are not the same thing.
  21. Wow, I love the design. I'm not usually one for the more radical designs (I hate the ESP F series, for instance), but your design is really cool.
  22. I think that if you make the curves "sharper" and move the top "horn" (is that what you would call it?) forward a bit then it would be right on.
  23. I'm gonna have to go with MikeB on this one... PAUL GILBERT! Me likes Racer X...
