    Washburns 587 (I think) is pretty descent for $200.00, I have one of their floyded versions I'm cleaning up and it's all right.

    Bittersweet is an extremely good choice in words, I saw the purple PRS and thought..nice, then read on and felt guilty for liking the guitar. Well the whole situation does suggest you're an alright guy or someone wouldn't have bothered, good to know.

    A thought I had since my last post was probably the best gift you can give the young man is to sit down with him, teach him how to tune and play basic chords and most importantly, how to setup a guitar! It's quite probable the guitar he gets will need a setup badly.

    I'd say something like a Rockman, Arion makes a little guy, doesn't sound great by my standards but... Also, most of these corp kits come with little amps with headphone jacks, so I wouldn't be shocked if what was mentioned will come with one.

    I've been using a Line6 GuitarPort with a Laptop and couldn't be much more pleased. The GuitarPort part is very reasonable in pricing but if you don't have a laptop, that'll bump up the price quite a bit. Realistically, with something like NI's battery (VST drums) and a simple audio package, there isn't much you can't do. My most common travel use is to bring along a DVD or two, plop one in the laptop with some headphones and I'm zooooomin.

    Yeeeeup! My guess is what's making them sell now is the suggested rebelious posture, but those same kids don't realize they actually did sell out and their label is dictating everything they do, I'm certain. For what it's worth, they opened up for one of my bands back in ~93 at The Stone. They sucked even more then, they've been considerably refined since those days.

    It appears they were only made in 2000 and haven't been since so I would tend to believe a used Epi LP style isn't going to bring in top dollar even if it is a seven?

    The duplicolor does work but people have had less than favorable situations with it. Most often their clear coat being thin and requiring a ga-gillion coats and as it's acrylic takes a long time to cure, commonly in excess of a month. When I used it I could still smell it almost three months after. Also, according to them, they suggest to increase the color change use more coats not less. I noticed the trans started reducing after I started clearcoating. That one's still hanging in a closet pending final finish.

    I noticed a while ago it was available but wasn't mentioned much so I assumed it wasn't quite ready or a big-o-announcement would have occurred.

    Unlike mattia, I would point you in the direction of the Applause of those you've listed and the price range in consideration. They have a very forgiving reach and the tonal contrasts electrically are pretty extensive.

    Holy cow! Only reason I said what I said before was I couldn't see the video?!? Those poor kids! I don't think I could find much of anything that went well. Maybe the bass player survived somewhat okay...I can't remember and will not expose myself to it a second time!

    Sounds like Japanese Karaoke to me, after enough liquor anyone will try singing, but Europe? At least an old Bob Segar tune would have been a bit more expected to be butchered in such a way.

    It's really hard to tell Dave but from the sounds of it what you've described is almost as if a noise gate is hard switching in and out, there isn't by chance something in your chain inducing that? Also, that Eventide's a pricy box, would think it's clean and no auto-noise reduction involved, even a slightly low input signal should be okay. Most often units have a -10 db and +4 db input/output toggles and if the unit in the chain prior to the Eventide is running at -10 db, you're getting what you should as a signal. If your in/out chain has a anything using +4db will often induce noise especially when chained. The way you described noise when you pick, sounds like something is either not up to snuff (a DSP is failing or is just plain noisy) in something of the like but I'm guessing at this point.

    For simple purposes even a block of wood under the amp can get the sound up high enough so that it's not firing at your ankles. But be careful not to fire it directly at a vocal mic, it can cause some feedback cycling issues. It's better if you can depend on stage monitors for your playback instead of your amp. It will help keep people with distance between them more in sync and is less likely to feedback than a loud amp. Have fun!

    I've found on occasion, novice but enthusiastic efforts produce some creative ideas in problem solving since the novice doesn't necessarily know the 'right' way or have the 'right' devices to get a result. Genuine problem solving skills are infinitely more valuable long term!
