  1. starting to spec out a strat project wondering if anyones tried the Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups. theyve always intrigued me for some reason
  2. i bought and ibanez archtop(jazz box) on ebay for under $200.
  3. heard of a neat trick one time where someone put a single coil in the trem cavity to pick up the resonance on the springs. Have no idea how it sounded but ill try it at some point in the future im sure.
  4. the oft slammed around here Make Your Own Electric guitar actuall discusses this by using a jig.
  5. once its all straightened out i would to 3 things: 1. contact Gotoh-If he's a dealer im sure they'll investigate 2. contact Ebay 3. leave feedback thats appropriate and descriptive. this guy is definitley pulling a bait and switch. Ebay and Gotoh are not likely to be happy.
  6. any info on where to get killer kolors, jeremy. Tried a google search and failed
  7. using the lite half of a 12 set would be nashville tuning, i think. From what I've read its common to use all light gauge strings in nashville sesions tuned so your low and high e's are in the same octive. is that what you want or do you want a 12 inch scale neck?
  8. i have a lot of luck removing adhesives with electric motor spray for rc car motors. Its probably the same as any electric cleaner only with a short dorks picture on it. But the rule here is always test on an area thats hidden if possible.(under pickguard etc..)
  9. fender called it a fotoflame. nastier necks than usualy fender dreck though.(imho) but they were pretty guitars
  10. i would start checking out ampage.org and 18watt.com
  11. I use the worn out ones to throw at band members. not as effective as drum sticks but still anoying. Especially if you can popem in the singers mouth.
  12. id love a studio section as well as an amp/speaker cab section.
  13. They use electret mikes do google search and you can find a lot interesting info
  14. just did one tonight on the band saw. the edges took some work but overall im very happy. i kinda oooops the pickup hole but it was a trial for a 70's roadstar bass. the cool thing was putting green vinyl on the back.
  15. sounds like maybe you need to bi-amp and crossover. never built a big bass rig but that'd be the route i'd try. send the lows to the 15 and the mid/highs to the 10's.
  16. most stomp boxes are not set for the levels a loop puts out. maybe away to get wierd sounds and smoked pedals. personally i think different effects sound better before the amp. most actually thats why i dont have a rack rig anymore. running direct is a great thing if the sound system supports it well. basically you dont have to bring a poweramp or speakers just run a pod or rack or processor into the board. unfortunatley you dont get 100% accurate tone.(speakers and power amps have a lot to do with tone, especially dirty tones) and the sound guy greatly effects your sound.(eq level etc...) It really requires a PA with a good monitor ability and usually multiple mixes. I personally hated my attempts to record this way the magic of the speakers and amps just weren't there. The upside is low stage volume, small churches, coffe houses, practice etc... I see alot of local bands that i wonder how theyd sound if Angus wasnt on 11. Maybe they'd have vocals. For practice its great because your not make yourself, neighbors, spouses, housemates def.
  17. the other issue is square. If you dont already have a square edge the rip fence on your table saw wont help much. You could CAREFULLY use a miter jig. BUT unless your end is square your back to screwed.
  18. I believe it was Westone that had the slider pickup
  19. I know about the grounding thing, and I agree Woodshop Pyrotechnics are bad! The problem I have with the shop vac is hose size. Most dust collectors are 4" really useful for planers and stuff and most shop vacs are 2". The delta is about the same price as most higher end shop vacs. The shop vac also dust seem to do crap to collect dust from my desktop belt sander. The spiral stair shop i worked in never had a clog. I think thats part of the 4" deal though.
  20. how do you like the bridge ive been thinking of something like that for a while now.
  21. What are people using for dust collection in thier shops. I just reorg'd mine(thanks to the addition of free kitchen cabinets) and am looking at the $150-200 ones from ToolKing.com, HarborFreight, and the small Delta at Lowes. fyi Home Depot says they don't carry them youd have to go somewhere that sold wood working tools and supplys for that. UMMMM what's all that stuff in your tools section? please let me know your experiences and opinions. I currently have a small table saw, router table, and band saw. Will add a jointer, posibly a planer, compound miter, and drill press. Also plan on building a sanding table(mdf box w/ dust collector port and peg board top.
  22. cowtown guitars they're here in vegas and pretty cool people
  23. ask steve morse about the pickups lol as far as shape goes i think of classic shapes only a little changed. mostly for what i consider ergonomic. my current puzzle a lightweight les paul, neck through, 24 fret, w/ a piezo bridge and a back tummy route, switch in the prs position(sorta behind the bridge) using a rotary.
  24. woodworkers source they dont give info about tones however they do give good info on workability etc... ive bought stuff from the store and am about to mail order some bubinga to make a 2x12
