  1. I used to use 9's on my strat and never had a problem with the trem.
  2. i did it once but it was a flat top guitar, on a carved top i would just let it be. btw whats wrong with a tom, i did it because it was a incredibly cheap guitar and it was a really cheap tom. i cant see a reason to swap it out on a ltd.
  3. I have the same problem on my mim when i pull the neck off i have to pull it to the low e side while i tighten the neck then it is perfect. its not really a big deal since its not like you take the neck off very offten.
  4. wes hit the nail on the head the bound edges throw the look off. i kinda like the champange glitter pickgaurd from greasy groove
  5. I spent a couple of hours a day on it after work total time maybe 8 hours that includes masking and remasking and reremasking and finishing. The tutorial on the main page is right about masking the frets I think that was the most time consuming part.
  6. i dont have a lot of pedals but i have a boss acoustic sym that i was playing round with some OD sounds with and its real picky about where you put it. if you put any kind of gain in front of it, it makse some really strange sounds.
  7. I did a fret board on A cheapie guitar once I just ran a piece of tape down the side of The fret Board to gauge my depth. I used a couple of rasps and sand paper wraped around what ever. I would recommend doing it by hand forget the power tools a rasp will knock out the bulk quick enough then is all hand work either way. Really it took longer to work through the fine grits and than it did to do the bulk. Btw it turned out much better than I ever expected except I figured out real quick o don't liked scalloped frets. It was fun though. That's all I have to add.
  8. I wasn't joking. I have done this hundreds of times on tops and fretboards (If I had a dime for every time I dropped a tool on a top and dented it). Never tried it on a fret slot but fail to see why it will be different. Pull the fret and steam it. 98% of the time the dent will pull out. sorry i ment that for Dpm99 i was on my phone i guess i missed your post.
  9. I know your joking but I have heard people taking dents out by putting water on then making the wood expand. You would have to pull the fret first. But it might work.
  10. I sleep at work all the time so why shouldn't yall.
  11. .In that price range I would hollar at wez in a heart beat. He does amazing work. As far as standard two tone knobs I always swap it to a master tone. On yours it would give you a perfect place for the kill switch.
  12. Yeah that's why I wouldn't think anyone would go through the trouble of counterfeiting one. Why make a counterfeit 5 when its just as easy t make a 20 right.
  13. Today I was at Gc and I picked up a faded sg off the used rack. It played fine felt great but the fit/finish on the side of thé neck didn't seem just right. I'm wondering if any one had run across a fake faded sg. If I was a counterfeiter I wouldn't be repoping the low end version but ya never know. Every thing Else looks right but I'm not a huge Gibson guy I would know a litte more about if it was a strat. It is a used and well played guitar and ya never know what a previous owner did.
  14. yeah you do loose some bass responce with a 10" speaker to me thats fine most guitarist lean toward 12" speakers i will say i dont like the sound of a 8" speaker thats just too small but then agian there are guys who do.
  15. night train much smaller only 2 watts there is a definate diffence between preamp breakup and power tube breakup. heres some amp cab things to think about for a given cab it takes aprox 10 times the wattage to double the volume. so if you have a 4x12 cab and are running 15 watts to double the volume you need 150 watts, to half that volume you need 1.5 watts. that being said and i dont have the numbers but if you kept the 15 watts and went to a 2x12 its somthing like 66% volume (thats if i remember that number right) so i would say your best bet would be to go to a smaller cab. i personaly wouldnt go smaller than a 10" speakr though i find any thing smaller lacking but thats me.
  16. have you looked at a vox lil night train 2 watts through a 10" speaker. also the blackheart killer ant. one way to knock the volume is to run it though a smaller cab a 5 watt amp through a 4x12 is loud while the same amp through a single 10 can be manageable.
  17. i have a swamp ash ebay blank that i havent used because its a boat anchor i was really disapointed when i picked up the box off my steps. sorry for you i would have though stew mac would have higher standards.
  18. It will work but you will always be able to see where its been filled it will shrink and expand different than the wood and show through the finish.
  19. this is a crazy idea but could you cut the neck off and rout it out of the body then just replace the neck? you should be able to save the top that way.
  20. There's a lot more that price in my decision itd just I found cheap strings I like. I also like dr's but find that the cheap fenders last two to three times longer. So why not save 10 to 15 dollars. I don't like di addario's they don't feel right and that's more important than tone to me any way.
  21. really it sounds like its pretty much a standard tele i mean other than the medium density i would just try to find something advertised to be on the warmer side. if you want to save a little cash you might check guitar fetish i had a set of there humbuckers not to bad.
  22. saw this and though it was kinda cool theres some graphics that arnt camo and im sure there will be more as this becomes more popular i might have to order some and try it out. http://www.mydipkit.com/
  23. OH ****!!! call the CDC i think thats a rare strain of gaunasyphaherpalies imediatly quarentine yourself and the guitar. i dont think it has any thing to do with the compound or sand paper looks like some contamination under the finish maybe silicon, oil or even solvents that got traped under a cured top coat. solvents do that when you put too much finish on too fast the lower layers didnt have time to relise there solvents. or could be a nasty case of gaunasyphaherpalies.
