  1. CRAP! I seriously had the same idea, and was gonna build one down in the workshop where I build the guitars (we have many metal-working machines as well). And now it turns out that (of all the places in the world) someone already started producing them just south of here. This seriously pisses me off....But at least it shows my idea is working.
  2. Really depends on what types of tools you have access to. With proper machinery A shape like that wouldn't be very hard to make. The saddles can just be bought, and how to make the base plate really depends on the available tools.
  3. Oh come on??...Environmental effects of lighting a fire? Anywho... Censorship is never my cup of tea. Although it seems fairly standard practice over in the US... So basically people can accept that guitar's are being burnt, as long as they don't have to face the horror of seing wood being burnt. You're grown men for crying out loud!
  4. I've tried lot's of electronic kits...Unfortunately the thumb rule is pricey=good. Cheap drums just don't feel 'right' most of the time (mainly due to the rubber pads instead of mesh heads). But It's also about the computer itself. I've tried the Roland t-3..wich are good, and has a mesh head snare. The step up is the td-6 wich I actually liked a lot, and has the better computer (more sounds etc). I didn't care much for the yamaha dtx-series, and I've played a few of those kits. But since this is a builder's forum I'm recommending you to build your own kit. I've been thinking about that a lot and read up on it, but the problem being my apartement's to small to house anything more..
  5. I've only used the schaller's myself, and I have nothing bad to say about them. Genuine quality through and through.
  6. Nothing is written in stone yet, I'd actually like to hear what way you'd gone.
  7. Calling it american wouldn't be american enough... I'd sey he'd go for freedomian
  8. As a fun fact Paul Guy is also one of the guys behind the true temperament necks that have been discussed earlier. Someone also posted a finished one on here not long ago. It had a massive amount of built in effects and I remember there being a video of it on youtube as well
  9. It's a cool guitar... It was chromed by sims, but it was rushed and the chrome came out so-so, so Manson airbrushed it a bit and added the rivets to get a faded look. Thinking back a while ago I realized it was an article about Matt Bellamy's guitars that inspired me to start building guitars in the first place. It was only a couple of month's ago I actually found out that they where his though, since a friend of mine is a Muse fan. Anyway, the guitar I'm building now is the result of me and a friend's brainstorming. At first it was supposed to be a metal body with a wooden neck, but after some discussion we landed on the aeroplane theme. One day after coming up with the ideas of the rivets etc I suddenly realized that I'd basically designed a manson replica:P But then it's not really that, the only thing in common is probably a single cut shape and rivets. I'm getting eager to start this build when I get the time. Painted my tele deluxe black yesterday and will start clearing soon
  10. looking at different used bridges at ebay at the moment... I just figured I'll make some knobs out of aluminium For switches I'm gonna see if I can incorporate some type of switch from a cockpit.
  11. I'm sorry, gotta know what type of glue you will use to be able to exactly tell what it's gonna sound like
  12. hehe...never saw that coming They're cool, maybe I could get an 80's one on ebay that is already worn and faded
  13. thanks for the input guys, I'll keep tweaking, especially the headstock (the one right now is the profile of a spitfire upside down). I've also veen thinking of the aged hardware, so I'll definitely look into that. I'm not a huge fan of the floyd's and I've already got one, but maybe another type of trem for the dive bombing...
  14. yeah I'm leaning towards one of the top 2...or the bottom left..
  15. oh...forgot to mention....I'm definately putting some nose-art on there...just haven't found the right one. If it were to be any fighter related symbols on there they wouldn't be american.
  16. So while i'm struggling with the finish on my telecaster deluxe I got inspired to start another build. It will be a wood-core that will have a shell of polished aluminium. I'm gonna get some rivets to stick in there to go with the look. These are some early renders of the body shape. The upper horns are supposed to resemble a wing from a WW2 fighter. any input on the design? and any ideas on what type of hardware would go with an aviation theme? buttons? switches?
  17. As long as any sound at all is produced the strings vibrations are hindered... The electricity is induced when the string passes through the magnetic field, if the magnetic field wouldn't break the strings vibration no electricity would be induced at all.
  18. actually it doesn't sound any different really... I've played one of these necks, and shure the intonation is good...But then again, I've never really considered it a real problem on any other electric guitar. It feels just like playing an ordinary neck, but it's really unneccesary in my opinion.
  19. well.... Isn't the case gonna be pretty much the same size anyway? Just get a steinberger and be done with it... or there's always devillain guitars but they'll set you back a fair bit.
  20. My fist was a set neck Brian May style guitar...although it's still waiting for a finish...and I'm waiting for the time to finish it..
  21. nice.. but it's very close to LGM's patented leviathan.
  22. That would be by putting opposite currents through the paint and the body of the guitar IF it was metal. It would work if you gave the paint a negative charge as it came out of the can causing each drop of paint to repel the other spreading out more. But it would also require the guitar to be made of metal to attract the paint, and have a positive charge. I think I'm right? What about a layer of conductive paint applied before the colour layer? If you wanted to use this method, then yes. I'm not completely sure that the conductive layer would be needed though. Also, I'm not sure if the advantages are amazing: smooth first coat & paint conservation. If you want to do this, then the most important part would be running a current through the nozzle of the paint can. Also, would this not lead to an attraction by dust for the positively charged particles? All bits of dust have different charges. I don't wanna do it, just think out loud of ways to avoid having to build the guitar from metal
