  1. Looks like you've been performing surgery with that knife!!!! lol Fantastic work!
  2. yeah but then it will bounce off the beanbag & ding the car...lol
  3. it can be done on a curved headstock too - I did this a few weeks ago - I did this by soaking the veneer in a shallow tray of boiling water straight from the kettle. Leave it for about 5 mins to allow the hot water to penetrate through the veneer & then clamping it in position unglued & then leaving it to cool/dry out fully. Then when it was dry glue it in position using the same method as before.
  4. Hey - I got a chrome bridge like that on the Explorer(ish) guitar I built years ago (currently stripped for a refinish too!). It's a single locking Floyd. IMHO - you've got two choices - relic the sh!t out of it (half way there already) & replace the dodgy electrics or go for the total refinish.
  5. 8 strings??!!?? I struggle with six!!! impressive stuff - as usual.
  6. Well - if you think this lot is witch-craft & elec-trickery you'd better not see the stuff I work with in my day-job. High freq microwave radio transceivers..... now THAT is a Black Art - people have been burned for less, lol. I could tell you about it....but then I'd have to kill ya ;-).
  7. the pickups came from a guy on evilbay in the states - he'd bought a joblot of them (OEM). I payed about £30 ukfg each for them. but if you want to buy them dimarzio or MM won't sell you them (Mr. VH is very **** that way) however after speaking with a guy that works for DM he told me with a wink what else would to the trick if I couldn't lay my hands on any more. Try DM DP155F's in zebra & you'll be buying "exactly" the same thing....
  8. you ask nicely... very very nicely... and then you pay the man.... and then if he's feeling kind he may think about making you some.... is that right RAD?
  9. interested in how this comes out - i have a neck & genuine pickups waiting for one of these & just need the time to actually start it! good luck!
  10. thx Scott - yeah Indian with Honduras f/b.
  11. Here's a quick update. This is the flamed maple veneer for the headstock. I steamed & clamped it to get it to fit round the curved section. Veneered & machine holes drilles & then machines fitted. Test fit:
  12. glad things are back on track Lee. looking good.
  13. I managed to track the thread down here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=41469&hl= - i think the 1st part was lost with a forum crash or something. There's some more picks on RAD's site here http://guitarlogistics.blogspot.com/2010/08/hand-of-doom.html
  14. it doesnt i stand corrected - i knew it wouldn't affect the side dots but wasn't sure about the abalone
  15. Lee - I think RAD will appreciate the effort & persistance you are putting in to this - remember his Hand Of Doom build? That was a guitar that also didn't want to be built & fought him all the way! Look how it turned out. I think this could go the same way. Personally I wouldn't dye the fretboard - I prefer it striped - and from what has happened with Bob Taylor & the supply of ebony we'd all better get used to it...lol. I don't think that the dye will affect the side dots but it may discolour the abalone.
  16. Whoa - no "Stairway"!? I agree not a top 100 but still impressive view of guitar history... as far as a top 100 goes its virtually impossible to select an "ultimate" 100 - you could ask 100 people & they'd all have a different 100 - there would be some consistancies between lists but very few would be identical.
  17. doesn't look genuine to me.... routes look like they were done with a rusty spoon! never seen an original decal bubble either. date looks authentic enough but I've seen plenty of fakes that also look authentic. a good relicer can replicate it better than this easily. its probably worth less in its current condition than if it gets a GOOD refinish. edit; extra pics - you've done a good clean up job but I've also never seen a decal as close to the edge of the headstock
  18. spooky i was just thinking that very same thing when your post popped up!!! "do not adjust your TV - you have just entered the Twilight Zone"........
  19. i agree Lee - as much as the 'bolo looks good, it's too "samey". any way some great building weather we're having here - unfortunately it's turning more into "drinking" weather at my house not helped by the fact that it's allowing us to acclimatise a little before setting off for Greece on Tuesday! any way keep up the good work!
  20. looking good as usual Amdy - curious tho' - is that another LP I see in the back-shot? was this the "template"?
