  1. That unit from woodcraft looks like a pretty good solution. Buy that and you can bypass the stock switch all together.
  2. Nice one Jammy! Those fanned frets are just sick looking. I love it
  3. I am getting ready to start finishing my LP project. This is what I am planning for my finishing schedule 1. Dye the maple top 2. Spray the entire guitar with at least 2 coats of vinyl sealer. 3. Grain fill the mahogany neck and body with black epoxy 4. Clear coats with nitro. (This is an abbreviated schedule, but you get the basic idea) I am using the Behlen products from stew mac and I was wondering how long the vinyl sealer coats needed to dry before I could mask the maple top so I can grain fill the rest of the guitar?
  4. What guitar parts are you looking for? What do you want to have machined?
  5. When I did inlays on an ebony finger board, I used ebony dust to tint my epoxy. I was messing around grain filling and I made up some epoxy with a couple of drops of red Color tone dye(liquid) from StewMac. It made the coolest blood red mix. You could probably use a black dye the same way. I would avoid using the the powdered dyes though. I had some powdered dyes from LMII and they didn't mix well with epoxy.
  6. Dang man...Too cool. I dig the carving. That really is art.
  7. God I love that limba! I so need to get a hunk of that
  8. Man, I love this concept! I have access to a cnc mill, but I am still jealous of your lasers ability to cut such tight corners. I can do it with the mill but it turns in to a bunch of fiddly monkey business, using tiny cutters. Nice job!
  9. Hey, that's a great looking guitar! Don't be too quick to dismiss the cnc. It's an amazing tool, but it isn't magic. The cnc presents a whole different set of challenges to figure out, like fixtures and machining strategies. It really all depends on what you like to do. I do cnc work for a living, and it is fun for me to use those skills to make something for myself for a change. Even if you don't use the cnc to cut your whole guitar, you could still make some excellent templates to use with your router. Plus, no matter what anyone says, there is plenty of hands on work to do even if you cut your guitar in the cnc.
  10. Did you clear the paint off the top of the water before you pulled your test piece out?
  11. Love the limba Godin...this thing is going to be sweet!
  12. Do you guys find a 13" planer to be big enough? I know for my LP top the glued up blank needed to be about 13 1/2". Or are you guys not cutting things that big?
  13. hey...I love the logo etched into the mirror on the headstock. That really looks sweet. Keep up the good work
  14. You could also send a PM to a member that goes by the name cSuttle. He does a lot of custom inlay work. he cuts most of his stuff on a CNC machine. He does beautiful work. Check out his website to see what I mean. shark inlay
  15. Mickgaurd would be in heaven..... :D
  16. Perry, thanks a million for taking the time to post that description. That answers all of my questions. I really appreciate it. You make some of the hottest guitars man! EDIT: I actually thought of two questions while I was reading your post over again. 1. Is the green better, or deeper by mixing blue and then yellow dye, as opposed to using just a green dye to start with? 2. Is the light green colored area in the center of the guitar the part that you bursted with a tinted lacquer? Thanks again Jeremy
  17. Would you care to share how you did the dye job on this guitar? Did you sand back a black base coat, and is the darker edge a shaded clearcoat or is the dark edge wiped on with dye?
  18. Let us know how they work. I used side cutters to do the frets on the LP I'm working on. The didnt cut very close to flush and I had to file forever:(
  19. Capu, I have a couple of questions for you about the carve on this guitar. 1. What is the overall thickness of the guitar body. 2. Is the plane, where the pickups and the bridge sit, flat (or parallel to the back) or is it angled. If it is angled do you know how much? 3. What is the depth of the carve from where the bridge sits to the low edge of the perimeter. Thanks in advance for your help, and that is a gorgeous guitar. Nice job!
