  1. Looks like a Washburn. Doing a V is always going to look like some other V. If you want an original design start over. As soon as you think your design looks like something else, start over. Welcome to the game.
  2. I agree. I decided against it because I wasn't sure I could mask it properly since the edges are rounded. Looking back, I probably would have been fine.
  3. Thanks guys. Matt, kinda like the Swamp Thing right?
  4. There's some new pics in the "Finish Stage" link. I've got 16 coats of clear on there now. Waiting to level one more time and shoot 3-4 final wet, gloss coats. This thing should be complete by the end of the month. http://www.downinfrontht.com
  5. That is really sweet. I hope I can build guitars close to that some day.
  6. Don't be, man. I'm just saying it should go here... http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showforum=6
  7. Hey! I was using a pro technique and didn't even know it!
  8. Matt, I haven't read through the whole thread so this may have been discussed: Will you be using any neck angle?
  9. komodo, a super easy and fool proof way of jointing the edges of top woods is to clamp the pieces face to face in a work-mate or bench type clamp. Of course the edges to be jointed are aligned in the clamp, but make sure the pieces are face to face. Then, you just use a handplane to joint the edge. Having the pieces FTF, ensures that even if your edge is not perfectly perpendicular to the surface, the angles in each edge will offset eachother perfectly (because they were FTF) and your top will joint create a flat surface every time. BTW, back to back will work also. Dave
  10. Wow, 10 inches is narrow. BTW, what production guitars are less than the average 12.5" in width? I'm curious since one of my designs is only 11" or so wide. Dave
  11. Drak's method is actually for "jointing", not planing. For the most part, edges are jointed and surfaces are planed.
  12. Doesn't sound like you had much time to let them cure. What was the spraying/sanding/buffing schedule like? And great work BTW. Thanks. Dave
  13. I don't mean to be a prick, and I'm sure some will flame me for this but this kind of thing irks me. This is the "In Progress" forum of the web site. What are we looking at? This isn't even a design or drawing of a guitar. It's a vague shape. Posts like this don't belong in this particular forum. Sorry but that's my opinion. Dave
  14. Oh! Great file. Worth every penny. I used both sides and then finished with sandpaper. I'm really happy with that one.
  15. Hey guys. I've been away awhile. Vacations over now and I'm going back to work in the morning. Jay, which file do you mean? I used a few. I finally levelled the first 10 coats of clear today by wet sanding with some mineral spirits and 400 grit. I sprayed 4 more coats today. I'll put on 6 more and level again. then I'll decide if I'm spraying anymore or final polishing. Dave
  16. I have searched and I only found threads he started where he's selling wood and stuff.
  17. I understand your point Perry, I just think that right now, Matt is well under the radar. Oh, and hopefully he wouldn't use METAL MATT DESIGNS as a commercial name! Can't say that would inspire me to buy. As for Litchfield is concerned, I think all that happened before my time although I get the drift there. Are those threads still available for reading?
  18. I had that 350DX and loved it. It was a great guitar for the price. Looks great too.
  19. Matt, you've gotten (as have many of us reading along) excellent advice here. Far be it for me to put myself into a position of someone who is entitled or experienced enough to offer another builder advice but I have a question/point as well: Unless I'm mistaken, I've yet to see a full build of yours. That is, neck, fretboard or a poly/nitro (sprayed, sanded, polished) finish. I, like you, hope to be able to sell my guitars one day and I don't think I'd consider myself ready if I couldn't do those things. That's why, for my first guitar, I decided to build the neck, etc. I don't have the history here that others, like you, do but I seem to see mostly, bodies and designs of yours and I think, only one complete guitar (the Impaler) with a pre-built neck. Please don't be offended but wouldn't you think you'd need more experience in those areas and more whole guitars under your belt before you could go into business? You'd only be better for it. I love your enthusiasm for what we do and look forward to seeing what else you've drawn but find myself hoping to see more than drawings and bodies off the bandsaw. Know what I'm trying to say? I've PM'ed you before so you know how highly I think of you and hope I'm not taken out of line here. Keep it up, Matt. Oh, and I'm a little confused by this quote by, I think, Perry... Again, begging my pardon, would anyone outside of this forum or maybe the Moser site, know who "METAL MATT" is? I'm not sure how someone could use his name to boost their chance of selling something. I'd tend to think that the Ebay community is no more aware of a METAL MATT than they are of CudBucket or Micter etc. Dave
  20. Looks great! I love that color. Can't wait to see your next!
