  1. +1. Incredible guitar playing from both of them, but really, really cheesey song. GBT
  2. Here's the JerryC (really JerryL) referenced from that video playing it himself; it appears he did the arrangement of the piece for the guitar. He's not bad himself, and he hams it up playing, as well as throwing in some sweep picking. JerryL Cannon on Guitar GBT edit - just finished watching this video and the kids not bad. He throws in some sweep picking as well.

  4. Man, I had no idea until I saw the tribute bass thread. I'm so very saddened to hear about his passing, and ashamed I didn't realize it sooner. I always like his attitude and what he had to say, and this place is a little worse for his absence. Until we meet again. GBT
  5. Sorry, I don't like it... I LOVE IT! The only guitar I ever bought new and kept for a while was a Gibson SG I back in 1994 when I graduated from High School. It has a special place in my heart and I had to sell it shortly after I got married in 1998 to a friend. I keep begging him to let me buy it back, but no dice yet. The black hardware and white perloid pickguard are nice touches too. GBT
  6. Wow, thanks for that link. I'm digging the Hard Lessons. GBT
  7. It's not bad. Tone and recording sound good overall. The tempo starts slow, but then it gets faster and just seems to get faster and faster while the cohesiveness starts to fail. Also, it's a little repetitive, but again, you're working in the penatonic scale, so it's kind of expected. My advice for next time, would be to make sure your rythm track is rock solid, both in tempo and technique (sounds like some missed strums in there every once in a while). Other than that, it sounds pretty good, and much much much better than my first recordings. GBT
  8. That's beautiful. I've been craving a Tele, and yours just makes that craving worse. GBT
  9. What kind of acoustic style do you want to play? Folk? Blues? Fingerstyle? If you don't know, go spend some time with a decent guitar teacher who is versed in several styles. GBT
  10. Maybe it's just me, but that those and the SG like them couldn't be more fast and furious if they had stickers, racing stripes, and fart can mufflers. I wonder how they'll sell. Of the new stuff coming from Gibson this year, I prefer the Les Paul Vixen over that. If they made it in pink, I'd get one for my daughter. I couldn't believe they made that thinner SG, as it's already a pretty light guitar, at least to me. GBT
  11. I feel the same way. The playing before and after that section is impressive, though a little bit sloppy on some of the sweeps, but it's repetitive and not my thing. Still, I admire the technical skill it takes to play it at that speed. GBT
  12. Thanks to you and araz for those links. I can't wait to setup my new garage workshop. GBT
  13. +1. Were there large sparks before? Usually when brushes get worn they start throwing larger sparks and the tool gets noiser. I've never seen one just go outright without any warnings. GBT
  14. The Guitar Grimoire series of books are good; the videos not so much. The books are pretty dense, but there's tons of info there. It also gives you keyboard/piano layout as well which is nice if you have access to one. GBT
  15. Rory Gallagher Fender Custom Shop tribute Front Back Headstock rear - Notice the different low-e tuner. It's a pretty distressed guitar, but he played the heck out of it. GBT
  16. Only if you want to reseal the body before painting. GBT
  17. How is the neck relief? You may need to adjust the truss rod to get proper neck relief, provided you have't gone too low. If you have gone too low with lowering the strings, then you'll need to raise them slightly. Humbuckers are supposed to be like that, if I'm understanding you correctly. GBT
  18. I've never seen a GC that does repair work in house. Most can't even do a proper setup in house. They, like most other music stores, outsource to a local shop that specializes in repairs. Ask who they use/suggest and check on them yourself. GBT
  19. I have an Ibanez RG570 that I picked up off ebay that's in even worse shape than that. I wept when I opened the box and saw what the idiot had done to it. It was clear it had been "one-offed" by the previous owner, but the extent to which it had been done was not obvious until I opened in the box. I should post pictures, but I'm in the middle of moving (why I'm not around so much these days). GBT
  20. Yep, they're still pretty rare here in the states as well. I'd love to get my hands on one, but I don't think there are many people selling them here in the US. GBT
  21. There is a point that needs to be clarified here. I own and have owned Squires, Fender MIM, and Fender American strats. The Affinity series does have one model made out of plywood: The Bullet/Bullet Special. The other Affinity series guitars have Alder bodies. Here's the Squire models, in list of lowest to highest, and what they're made of. I've seperated the Bullet from the rest of the Affinity series. Bullet: Plywood and utter crap. These are the $99 guitars at GC, ZZSounds, and Musicians Friend (owned by GC). These used to be their own series, but they decided to roll them into the Affinity series for some reason. I guess it makes them appear to suck less. Affinity: Alder and currently Made Crafted in China on CNC equipment. The previous generation was made in Indonesia and the quality on them isn't as good as the current generation. Standard: Agathis Deluxe: Agathis, Basswood and Mahogany The non-Bullet Affinity series are decent guitars for the money. I own one and it's my test bed for ideas because I'm not afraid to break it, but it still sounds and plays well. The only real downside is that the pickups stink and you can't switch out parts with Fenders since the bodies are different (the Squier is thinner) and the mounting holes for hardware (excluding pickups) are different. I've currently got it equipped with an EMG S set and it sounds great. Decent distortion for single coils and still sounds like a strat when clean. Anything that says Squier and Bullet should be avoided, but they're also not to be confused with the Bullets from the 80's. If you can find a MIM Fender, it's a much better guitar, but likely not available for £30. GBT I agree completely. Early to mid-90's MIM Strats are a bargain for what you get. I've regretted selling every one I've parted with. The reissues coming out of Mexico have had ash bodies for authenticity, but I don't think any of the other models have. GBT
  22. Happy Birthday. I hope yours was better than mine. I was in bed with strep. GBT
  23. You're welcome. I just happened to spot an identical model while looking. GBT
  24. OK. While browsing fleabay I found this. It's not an AXS42, it's and AXS32 and is a discontinued model. Froogle has them for $339 at Samash.com new. I'd say $200 for the condition its in would be more than fair GBT
  25. Having spent a lot of time in Portland, OR for business, I'd say you're crazy if you think the cost of living is cheaper. On the contrary, it's not. Housing alone is nearly twice as much as Ft. Worth, and Ft. Worth is one of the cheapest places you can live in the country, especially for that size. Cost of living calculators are showing it to be at least 25% higher overall, but especially in housing. If you make $30,000 a year in Ft. Worth you'll need to make almost $40,000 to enjoy the same lifestyle. Also, get ready for a state income tax. See the facts here. However, it is beautiful, especially during the fall, and if you want to live away from Portland you can find some nice land. I'm interested in the RV470, though you mean an SV470 though, right? I'm in the DFW are and can pick it up. PM me a pic link. GBT
