  1. well, that's basically the same as a neckthrough with a cap, only bolted instead of glued... The only proble I can see is making you body to fit your neck exactly... Other than that it's doable (though arguably useful...)
  2. I know for a fact that musicman does their necks the way j.pierce described... In their FAQ:
  3. I don't think the laminated layers togheter would be flexible enough, no?
  4. That should be a configuration in the Admin panel, 10's usually just the default. That's what i'd be thinking, too... Having adminstrated a forums, most stuff like this is moddable in the config panel!! EDIT: Yep, I've just checked... In the Admin panel, go to General Admin --> Configuration and it's under "User and Forum Basic Settings" (Max number of poll options)
  5. I'd like to see Setch on this project! His work is SO clean!
  6. Well, whatever it is, it looks GREAT! I mean... I hope that ends up on a guitar!!
  7. The problem, I think, is the upper horn's junction... It's too beefy where it meets with the body! Make it slimmer and it will look great... Now it just looks very wrong lol
  8. Well, about string breakage, the only strings I've ever broke are because I have a floyd rose bridge, never because of my picking... I use 11s on it though... Anyways, I don't see bad intonation as a good thing, personally ...
  9. Talking about Schecter... Does the Tempest qualify for singlecut? http://www.schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=51 Or maybe the avenger does? (oooh pointy!) http://www.schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=137#
  10. Well, I don't really see the point of those side soundholes... I mean it's ok to hear yourself, but the point of speaking of bracing right now is that we want the guitars to sound good acoustically, wich a side soundhole will not help to do... I'd really like a side soundhole on a guitar with a piezo, where the bracing type plays a much less important role in the sound, but for acoustic sound I think you're better off with the soundhole where the poeple\mic are
  11. sounds a bit like dead power tubes to me... I don't see anything else that could be causing that...
  12. Well, personally I really like washburn's Idol series... pretty unique singlecuts! http://www.washburn.com/products/electrics/idol/
  13. A good way to make tests, as mattia pointed out, would be to build a guitar on with interchangeable tops... Then tests would not be so hard to do. Hell, that could actually be a good idea for sale... Have different tops for different styles of music, with the same guitar About volume, there's also the perceived volume that can be misleading... With my O', I almost can't hear myself when i'm playing unless I put me head near the top\soundhole... I suppose that means the sound is less "wasted" on the back and sides of the guitar and projected on the top, at least in theory... And btw, even with the shallow bowl, my guitar is almost as loud as my friend's when strumming, wich has a Jumbo... Anyways, I think it's good to see great builders like you guys think about the bracing, seeing how most high end builders don't even ask themselves the question and build "good old" X bracing...
  14. Well, the model I'm looking for is the new (from last NAMM) Standard Korina, wich has a JB\59 combo... I want to see if it would be possible to have one from my local dealer or maybe i'll try Ebay... I'm afraid though... The specs state an Alder neck... I think it might be a typo, but I certainely hope it is not alder! How stable is an alder neck?? Anyways, thanks for your help!
  15. Well, the one i'm eyeing has Seymour Duncan pickups, so I tought... What the heck if the craftsmanship is any good, why not?
  16. 3 words: WOW That's unbelievable! Only thing is i'd have chosen another wood for the FB... I don't like the coulour contrast
  17. I saw in a little guitar magasine an acoustic guitar with a very good idea... He installed 6 little string hoders near the sides of the guitar (around the whole 'butt' of the guitar) so he could remove a LOT of bracing since the whole tension was around the sides (where it's alredy solid) and not all at the same place... The bridge also then only gave dowards vibrations (like in an archtop)... It looked pretty bad but the theory is pretty damn much a good idea!
  18. Hey, I was wondering if anyone had a Hamer XT (import) guitar? I've been eyeing some hamer guitars (a standard and a sunburst) and I was wondering if they were worth the price for them? Is the construction good/harware OK??? Thanks!
  19. Personally, it's more the 11 string guitar tapping thingie that really impressed me!
  20. for the price, they're great... Maybe they don't compete with mesa's, but who got the money for those anyways??
  21. Well, I still think the price of a Marshall speaks for itself... At that price i would much more go for a Mesa or something else...
  22. Really nice!! You did a great job on that carve! Also, I don't see why a neck out of pine wouldn't work... all of it's strenght is in the lenght of it (the same reason it's used as acoustic tops). Also, I saw at a shop a Martin with what seemed like a softwood neck (looked like cheap pine )
  23. I just had an idea... Would it be possible to make the driver a pickup, plain and simply by running it's output to the preamp you alredy have for the sustainer. Maybe it would sound good, who knows?
