  1. Cheers Matt! For some reason I can't seem to help yanking your chain once in a while too. Your stuff is always worth the wait, though! SR
  2. A dulcimer kit was my first build so to speak, now that I think of it. The fret pattern has always fascinated me. On day I need to research it and see where it came from. SR
  3. Exactly. I was being cryptic. It loves being orange and wants everything else to be orange as well. the furniture, carpets pets, and adjoining wood. SR
  4. Just yanking your chain a little. Your wood has seasoned two and a half years since you started this project...."eons ago" as you said. You are getting into @mattharris75 territory. Of course his stuff is all beautiful, so that's a great place to be. SR
  5. That looks great. And yeah, padauk is very.......orange! SR
  6. I love this pic. Hiding in plain sight. It reminds me of the scene with ET hiding in the closet full of dolls. SR
  7. Are testing a new season your wood as you use it process? This is a visual masterpiece Mike, absolutely gorgeous and yet tasteful. Finish it already. SR
  8. I'm looking forward to seeing that top with some finish on it. SR
  9. Dammit Luis, those are insane! Except that for you it's not insane--it's business as usual. So many different backgrounds in the outdoor shots. Are you just facing a different direction in the yard for each one? SR
  10. The current plan is to have a clear epoxy or resin edge, if I can figure out how to day that and follow all the cool little contours. The edges under all the little points look like they were formed by some thick viscous molten semi liquid that was poured onto a a flat surface and cooled into the shape it flowed into. There are no voids in the top that pass all the way through to allow you to see the branches, What voids there are going to be filled with turquoise chips, or something similar and the with resin. At least that is the current plan. SR
  11. Could happen. I used to have an old desk my uncle built in high school wood shop about 70 years ago that had a 2" thick slab of Cuban mahogany as part of its structure. It was sort of an ugly desk and I let it go during a move of house hold, before I ever conceived of building a guitar. That slab was enough for at least 4 guitar bodies.... Luckily, I still have an old coffee table from the same shop class with enough 2" 70 year old Cuban mahogany for two bodies. Could happen. SR
  12. Thanks Mike. I love the live edge.....but I don't think I can leave it like it is. All those sharp little protrusions look cool and will snag skin and clothes anytime someone passes to close. I have a feeling knocking them off and sanding them flush will result in bird's eye looking figure. Luckily I have lots of drops and scrap from the two previous burl top guitars I built, so I can do some experimenting before committing. SR
  13. I'm not convinced that will be the final orientation for the top. but it is what works best with the carving at this stage. SR
  14. I finally got a Tormek and spent a fair amount of carving time sharpening gouges. Hopefully this will help them last longer. I replaced two more this week from sharpening them down to something less than ideal in length. And I did take the time to pull the top out and take some mock up shots to remind you guys what the plan is and for me to compare to my mental plans and see if it is actually going the direction I intended. SR
  15. Thanks. No glass. this is getting a maple burl slab on top. The last couple of pics in my first post shows it. I realize that was the better part of a year ago....I'll do a mock up with it in the next photo dump to refresh memories and see if it is still going to look like what's in my head. SR
  16. What do those chunks of iron weigh? I used to have access to a 6" chunk of train rail memory tells me went 60 or 70 lbs. The memory is 30 years old so it may be exaggerated....like things tend to do with the passage of time. SR
  17. Not common, but even better than I thought! I thought it was a 4x4 and a flange, using bar clamps and the table for the squeeze. SR
  18. My first thought was a color from this cosmetic line......... https://www.marykay.com/CGreen54151?msclkid=9700c21394e91b0506d6a1791a56d652 But you may be on to something. SR
  19. Ohhhhh yeah! And you got a stunner for your efforts. SR
  20. I suppose I have gotten past the halfway point of the top layer. And my wife is the same way. No horizontal surface shall go uncovered. But not to worry. What I'm carving is the pedestal for the table top. The opening post was made so long ago you may not remember, but the table top this pedestal is going to be supporting is a slab of live edge maple burl. The shape of it made me think of the shape of a tree's canopy......and this is where that thought led. SR
  21. That thing does sound great! BTW, I love the big middle clamp on you body glue up. I love to see ingenuity using common objects like that. SR
  22. Maybe from a slightly different point of view? SR
