  1. That's a nice top Jesse. It looks like a maple crotch, but the color's throwing me a bit. Is that what it is? SR
  2. Congrats on that one man. And it plays as good as it looks you say....then it must play very well indeed. What did the final weight come in at? SR
  3. All the inlay coming together is starting to give this a western feel. It looks great! Are you going to finish it the same way you did #5 (which looks very, very nice)? SR
  4. To clarify, are you saying that your headstocks are .125" thicker at the fretboard end? Or at the far end? SR
  5. What led to you adopting the recessed tuner? Increased string angle? Increased structural strength due to the thicker headstock? Purely aesthetics? Voodoo? SR
  6. And does it seem like pics resize sometimes....and not others? SR
  7. The two I have built so far both have jatoba necks, as will the one I'm just starting. first build Hook Custom They are extremely stiff responsive necks that feel and sound great. And no neck dive issues with these anyway. I think it would be too hard and heavy for a body wood, although it's not that different from bubinga in that regard. It is normally rather plain too, but if I ever ran across a piece of the proper size for a top that was figured like the one I pictured here, I'd certainly give it a go. SR
  8. Very nice ribbon grain; that's about as pure a quartersawn cut as you will ever see. Damn, but that must have been a huge tree. Jatoba is also known as Brazilian cherry....but only for the color. It has no relation to cherry at all. SR
  9. Man, I love the way the bevels look with these wood sandwiches you are building. SR
  10. I believe you are thinking of persimmon. On the other hand this is a really nice looking wood. pistachio SR
  11. Yep. That bubinga looks really sweet in the low angle shots. SR
  12. The blade was a dull gray when I got it and yeah it was 2". All I actually got was 12" lengths that were cut from a commercial blade. I would have loved to see the saw! The shine came from polishing...just like a laquer finish, sandpaper to 2000 grit and micromesh to 12000. There are still some scratches, but they are highly reflective scratches. And thanks Bargle, it was a fun way to use up some offcuts. SR
  13. Actually, I had two uncles and a grandfather that were barbers, and all of them had one in their basements in addition to what was in the shop. I haven't seen those in years...decades even. I wonder whatever became of them... SR
  14. That was fun. Who enjoyed it more, he or she? Did you get your adhesion issues solved? SR
  15. It's been a while since I could check in. The polished headstock and logo looks great, bubinga looks great......are those barber chairs in your container? SR
  16. Over Christmas I was back at my parent's house and had a chance to get a couple shots of my first band saw blade re-use. I wish I could say they came from a saw I owned as these were huge blades, but the reality is a friend gave me some pieces of the blade for this specific reason: to make knives. Here is one I made for my Dad. SR
  17. Aside from the centering issues, it's pretty cool. SR
  18. Ask and you shall receive huh? Very nice and so clean. I'd say you mastered Tru-oil. Any issues with it, or was it pretty smooth sailing once the pores were filled? SR
  19. That looks beautiful! How long till we see the front? SR
  20. You've certainly got an interesting supply of weights..... SR
  21. Yes indeed. This piece first served duty as part of a packing crate for a shipment of granite slabs imported from Brazil. I rescued it from a chain saw and a trash bin. SR
  22. Sorry Huf, but it's not as sexy as that....well this piece is, but this one is abnormal in my experience. SR
  23. Sweet. First one huh? I can't wait to see it with finish. Well done. SR
  24. Way harder than cedar. No, and it's not really that uncommon for an exotic. It just doesn't normally look this nice. it's nice enough, but not normally known for figure. SR
