  1. How is soft maple for a body wood? I just made a body out of it and am wondering what to do next. Its going to be either a hard maple (Birdseye, like yours) or Mahogony neck. Probably mahogony, but any pro's to doing Hard maple? Any more attack or tone with it? I was thinking of putting some DiMarzios in it when its done, but what would you suggest? Also, I may top it with something. If you answer, PM me.
  2. I just ordered a preslotted nut and your making me nervous. Thanks spoke.
  3. You said alot of something. Thanks for the advice about PVA I, II, and IIIs.
  4. I love how crazy your inlays are. Also, I like the shape of the guitar, I might use that. Shape + Theme + Cool Inlays = AWESOME.
  5. Yellow glue it is then. Wes the mann... West He-Mann... We's them ann...
  6. Lulz. I just wondered some ways how to make neck joints. Like using Pegs. Switches. Magnets. Actually, magnets would be awesome if they didn't mess with the pickups. But... You would need a strong magnet to hold the neck, meaning it would probably mess with the pups, and you probably wouldn't be able to pull the neck off if you needed too... You don't need a plate, its just there so the screws don't impale into the wood at the head. Logos and Serial numbers also.
  7. You can always take away material, but its hard to add material. If the nut is oversized, you can file it down to the correct dimensions. And if the nut is too short, raise the bridge height.
  8. So would Yellow wood glue work for a Fretboard to Neck bond? If not, It seems as if I should give epoxy a try...
  9. I was considering using some of the stuff for adhering the fretboard, but after reading this, Ill see what else we have. Ill try to find some titebond somewhere. What about superglue for Fretboard to Neck? What would you guys suggest?
  10. Yeah, Im starting to do that too. We have a whole bunch of boats, and I see all this mahogony on them and Im looking at and... I actually got a few good pieces that I can make necks out of. Its nice stuff.
  11. Can you apply pressure and "Reseal" the crack? If so, put some glue on the inside and reseal it, and pray that it holds it together. Just my two cents...
  12. 13 Degrees is a very common used angle for Headstocks, a lot of the Major companies use it.
  13. Nice bloodwood, I was just pondering what that would look like as a fretboard. Nice build man.
  14. Yeah, I messed up like that too on my neck, and had to do that. It worked out fine, if not great.
  15. So that line in the interior is where it was supposed to line up with? Lulz. Looks like we're both having routing trouble.
  16. You a Lefty? O.o Or the video just messed up? Cool video, nonetheless. Break out some polyrythmic stuff.
  17. It would seem as if your routing for your Pups is slightly askewed... It could just be from the angle, but before I routed my cavities today, I was quadruple checking everything. Looking great.
  18. Yeah, you can make a whole Neck out of Rosewood. I was just talking about this yesterday with a Harp Maker, and I was like "Hmm, what do I want, Half a dozen fretboards, or a Neck..." But Ive decided to do what I can, with the piece I have. So, thinner body rather than chambering? How thin would you suggest? I was planning on making it 1 3/4 inches, which is the thickness of a Strat body, and is fairly comfortable. The shape in mind is basically a strat shape thats been Metalized, so its slightly wider than a regular strat. I also have a neck lay out for a 27 fret 7 string... But it wouldn't be on the Maple body, and I would probably apply the VbelowV to that Neck. And I was wondering if there were any benefits of using a Butternut (White Walnut) and Hard (Birdseye) Maple neck? Would this give me any more attack (Ive been trying to find better attack for ages, various pick types, picking styles, and if I can get more attack/clarity out of this, Id be willing to do whatever. And yes, Attack is also in your technique [iMHO, mine is quite good], but any outside factor that I could change to improve it would be awesome). Sorry for the long post, but thanks guys. The maple body question is pretty much answered, and Ill see what I can do with it.
  19. Im trying to Utilize materials openly available to me, and experiment with various wood types before moving onto more expensive woods. I sort of knew that making a neck out of a counter material than the body won't work as well as I want it to, but you never know until you try or ask. I had already spent $8 on a piece of maple, and want to try something with it. Its useless for making necks, so why not try a body? If anything, Id give it to someone and tell them to practice on it, as it would probably less crappy than any other guitar they may have... Lulz, just give it to them and ask for $8 bucks...
  20. Weight isn't the issue, I just feel that The maple body I have prepared would have tonalities that I don't really want, as you said. Weight is no option, its just the sound.
  21. If I were to make a neck to counter a maple body, what should I make it out of? Maple is bright, but Ive heard it lacks in the lows (which is pretty important to my style), so to make up for that short coming, what comination of woods (if Any) in the neck should I use to "Counteract" the maple body? Im guessing Birdseye and Walnut to counter the weight of the Maple, but any help is appreciated. If this matters, I was planning on making a 7 string neck, so that would add some mass to a regular neck. Ideas?
  22. Funny, a few people asked me if I could build them a guitar eventually... And Im not even done with my first... Alot of good price ranges here, and most custom guitars will cost $1000+.
  23. I almost think that fretting is too much work, and that it might be easier to go fretless. But I'll try it anyway.
