  1. http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/pro1.htm follow this tutorial and all the steps at the bottom of that page and you'll have it set up perfectly.
  2. If you're not wanting to cover the body with a pickguard you *might* be able to direct mount your neck pickup. Another option would be to use a see-through pickguard.
  3. what am I going to do with the thousand cans of turd polish then?
  4. These are about as cheep as it gets can't tell you if they'll be any good though!
  5. This is true to a degree, when you overwind a pickup the addition inductace that causes will make the pickup loose some high frequency output. I disagree about higheroutput pickups being muddyier though...they have more midrange and bass output yes but that can be advantageous...I guess it depends what you're plugging your guitar into really. oh and lace sensor pickups the resistance isn't comparable with a standard pickup as they're configured completely differently (think they used differant gauge wire too so you defenatly can't compare using resistances).
  6. I was thinking this myself the other day. Either that or they need to start shipping them with well made and approprate pickups (a la PRS) going to be refinnishing it then? maybe they should have made the allen key as badly as the trem then it might fit? I'll phone up pledge and warn them that you're going to need a couple thousand cans of turd polish
  7. I'd say it depends on how much of a gap you're talking about. I've used paper soaked in PVA layered up to make neck pockets that were *slightly* loose tighter. When the PVA dries (don't use to much) it'll turn into a very soild very stable substace with the paper though its a bit messy and goo-y before it dries.
  8. you could build a thin box to fit over the pickups out of wood though (thinnish veneers maybe?)
  9. probably but it'd be the most grim frostbitten thrash ever well other than the fact the singer is into goregrind type vocals
  10. Hi folks! I'm trying to form a Black/Death metal band in the Bath (UK) area. I've managed to find a Vocalist and another guitarist. so naturally I need a bassist and a drummer Anyone who would fit the bill who live in the area would be great. Also anyone who knows someone please put them in contact with me OR I'm taking recomendations on good drum machines!
  11. I agree that it is quite expensive but I'd be offering pickups designs that arn't available from other manufacturers Plus I think people would be willing to pay a bit more for the option of being able to custom order ANY spec pickup you want.
  12. I have been supprisingly not on my 'high gain' guitars either! If I were doing this I wouldn't be starting up until well into next year (I need to do a lot more research and experimentation...having access to a fully stocked physics lab helps though ). I'd contemplate doing a run of pickups 'at cost' to some PG memebers so I can get a bit of reputation hopefully a good one!
  13. as long as the total power drawn by the pedals isn't more than your power source can provide and is less than the maximum power rating of the daisy chains then yes. you can still get a few bits from maplins. I'm going to go over to Rapid electronics as they're about the only alternative that sells to people rather than companies.
  14. Some Ephiphones are reasonably good some are REALLY bad. I suggest you search arround your local music stores for one that sounds really nice...I wouldn't buy one if I'd not played it before because they really do vary in sound quality so much. I'd also recomend changing the pickups on it if you do get one as the pickups are probably the worst part of epiphone guitars luckly its an easily changed part.
  15. In a word no. The wattage of the amp is to do with the maximum output of the tube power amp and also to do with the maximum load the output transformer can take. You could change the speaker to a larger driver (ie to a 10" or 12" speaker) and as long as its the same impedance (most likely to be 8ohms on your amp) then it'll still have the same power output but will sound louder as you're moving more air (this is to do with sound preasure levels but I won't go into that now ).
  16. Hi everyone I'm considering starting to wind custom pickups. I was wondering if there'd be enough intrest (this would be done 'on the side' of my studies). I'd do the usual pickups but instead of only offering standard models I'd also offer a truley custom service (ie you pick your pickup spec I make it) This would include . I have a fair few 'original' ideas for pickups ( keeping these under my hat for now). I might also start to offer some active componets (buffers that allow non-active pickups to be used with passive pickups along with full active systems). I'd try and keep the prices competative....obviously I wont be able to undercut mass produced pickups but I'll do my best to keep the prices sensible of course PG memembers would get a substansial discount. so yeah anyone intrested or have any comments please do chime in! Robert
  17. Looks real nice Drak! Don't think I've seen many tele's with a mini humbucker so that'll be intresting (sound wise). maple fretboard or rosewood?
  18. So unexpected. LK was always arround always knew the answers to any electronics question. He will defenatly be greatly missed by all here. My condolences to all who knew him.
  19. make them. All you need is the 'female' version of the 2.5mm barrel plug (ie what you can plug a boss power plug into, I think maplins might still have them...its a shame they're stopping selling components) and then wire that to whatever it needs to go to (audio type jacks for old EH effects ect.).
  20. that must be one sexy friend if the guitar's half as curvey as she is do we get photo's of both so to compare?
  21. I rate Kent Armstrongs very highly but the prices have gone up (well the UK ones have gone up a lot). lucky there's an ebay seller who occationally sells resonable quantites of OEM pickups (at about half the retail price). I have one GFS pickup but its yet to go into a guitar so I can't comment on it at the moment.
  22. I've fixed guitars with BOTH problems (though never at the same time!). The clue that gives it away as not being a bent contact is the fact that when he touches the cord it buzzes. This shows that its the sleave of the imput jack that isn't connected properly not the tip. If it were the tip wasn't making contact and the sleave were making contact touching the cable would reduce the hum (in the same way that touching the bridge on a guitar with a string ground does). though having writen that I've now confused myself and I'm not sure anymore
  23. make sure you're plugged into the input not the direct out!
  24. you could do it but I don't know if it will sound more like the strat 2 and 4 possitions or less like them (as after you've tapped the stacked humbuckers they'll only have roughly half their normal output).
  25. looking damn good! the staining on the neck looks lovely. you know what might look nice? maple pickup rings stained to match the body that or chrome ones
