  1. Wow, wicked avatar Wes!, Is that an inlay?
  2. Hey man, I too am a fanatical fisherman. I am on a break right now though because I need a back surgery and am waiting to get it. Those lures are cool, have you heard of AC plugs, they are another great bait mostly wood, and is one of the best striper baits there is, it holds numerous world records, some of which are held by the inventor of the lure named Alan Cole I believe. He is constantly fishing and improving on an already great design. He does a lot of striper fishing near lake mead. If you haven't heard of him check around on the web you'll be amazed at his catches and lures! But most of his striper fishing is in freshwater, and I think most of what you guys have in new york is saltwater. Either of them would be great fun though. So I'm glad to meet a fellow fisherman on this site. And especially someone that loves guitars as much as fishing. Cool links by the way. I'll look for some sites of the ac plug and just alan cole in general, and put the links up when I find them unless you have seen some already. Good luck with your guitars and just ask any question when you have them. Hope to see more of your work soon! Jason
  3. Are you sure? It works fine for me, it leads to another post about all the tools you need. Good luck! Jason
  4. WOOW doggy! Thats a nice guitar. I am working on a guitar currently, so I'm low on $, but who knows one day when I have some more dough I might look into it, I really love how it looks, that top is great. Thanks for posting those pics, I really enjoyed them! Eye candy! Jason
  5. Man I really like how it's turning out, and all the pics you've been taking are great. One question I have is how is the f hole doing, in the last few pics I couldn't get a good look at it and I wasn't sure if the carving had any negative effects on it. Was it cut when your top was flat or after when it was carved? I don't know if I could trust myself to carve the top with the f hole already there, is it possible to do it after? Great work though. I can't wait to see the final product, it going to be super nice I'm sure, good luck with the rest of it and keep us updated with pics when you can! Jason
  6. I think it would be cool to try and two tone one, the part with the carve being one color like white and the rest of the body being another color like black or red. It would really show off your contour which is a very cool idea like everyone said. So are you doing that contour on all three because I only saw it on one of them? It might be a good idea to do it the carve on more than one so you can work out the details like finishing and depth and stuff. Either way I like the idea alot but I agree with a few of the other posts that the overall shape could use some reworking, sg's are a great shape but I am not a fan of adding the tele horn. It's your project though so you do what makes you happy. Keep up the good work and keep us updated with pics as you go! Good luck! Jason
  7. Sweet! Do you have a pic for me, or a link?
  8. I think it's logical to know that you will get booted if you take it too far, but in no way do I feel that it equals fear. I can't say the same for everyone though. I feel like the mods/admin do a good job of keeping this place clean. I wouldn't be here otherwise, there are many guitar building site but I feel this is the cleanest and safest place to voice ones opinions and receive help and opinions on work that you are doing. There are rules though but they are not hard to abide by in my opinion. Without these rules I feel this place would be a mess and informative information would be few and far between all the flaming and pissing contests. So personally I applaud the mods/admin for their great work on this site and hope nothing changes because a few people would like to be able to rip on others with more freedom, that would not be of any help to someone that would like to start building guitars and has questions about it. And that is what this site is all about, helping others and getting help when you need it! So thanks to all the mods/admin for doing what you do and also thanks to all the great members that help new comers learn the skills of the trade, you guys are all a tremendous help, thanks! Jason
  9. PG tools and shop Here's a link for a start. One suggestion though, there is a search function on this site, type in what you are looking for and read all the answers. All most everything has been covered at one point or another, at least everything you need to know in the beginning. So good luck and welcome to the site! Jason
  10. Stupid question real quick what does SD stand for, is that part of your name maybe or what? Glad your back to stay! Oh yeah that design in your avatar would be a killer headstock inlay or 12th fret inlay, maybe like some ebony in a maple fretboard or or mop in anything darker. Nice choice! Jason
  11. Might work really good for cleaning out excess wood around the horns, which can sometimes be work. Jason
  12. So you want the body to taper in thickness from the neck/horns area being the thickest and thin and taper down to the belly and bottom of the guitar. Sound interesting, how much thinner or taper will it be, make sure there is enough room for electronics/cavities. I don't have any ideas about sound or tone effects though, if you don't take too much off I don't think it will have any negative effects, I don't think it will get away from you, it would be a slight difference and shouldn't cause it to push away. Let us know if you decide to do it and take pics too. Good luck with your project! Jason
  13. Thanks for the info, I will probably try your technique on my upcoming project unless I go for the natural binding, my top wood is really nice and I don't know how much better it would be to rout out from it to put something very similar in. But who knows I might. Do you have any contours like the arm cut out or gut cut that you had to bind through? I was just curious if you would be able to bend the binding through a gut cut or arm contour. Or if there is a better way to do this. Thanks again for the tips and if you can post some pics! Jason
  14. I would assume so, but I can't be sure. It's kinda funny when I started playing guitars, I always thought that jumbo frets meant larger spacing between frets, I was totally clueless! Good luck with your neck, I think someone here know about this, I think there was another post about it. I forget who started it, but they answered your question, I don't remember what the answer was or the topic title to find out, but I will search for it for a little and see if I can find it for you. But I'm sure someone can answer your question easier than me! Later! Jason
  15. I agree, it doesn't really matter. As for glue have you ever used titebond the original? I have used this and have only the best things to say about it, and I don't think it even compares to any regular wood glue. I have never used gorilla glue so I can't comment on it, but I can tell you most people that build guitars use titebond. So maybe consider trying titebond but if you feel that the gorilla glue will work better for you then go for it and let us know how it works out for you. Good luck with the repair! Jason
  16. Welcome to the site, nice guitars. I don't know what dimension you need, you should find out the size of the scale and size of the bigger bass you are building, double it for the 2 you are building, then add a little extra for error room. Good luck with your company and ask all the questions you want, but always do a search first because that can answer a lot. Again good luck! Jason
  17. Whats an average summer like up there in Canada in lets say Toronto where you are sepultura? Temp wise, days and nights. Anyone else that lives up there like Metal Matt it would be cool if you answered the question as well. I would like to take a trip up to Canada and possible move up there one day, and I would like to know some of the different climates throughout Canada, so I can find one that would most suit me. Thanks guys and great pics! Jason
  18. I don't wanna grow up cause I'm a luthier kid, with a bunch of tonewoods that I can play with!
  19. So the original neck had no fretboard overhang at all? If it was 22 frets with an overhang you might be able to, but without an overhang I think you are right that it wouldn't be long enough. There might be some way but I don't know of one. Good luck with your guitar! Jason
  20. Epic! Really a nice looking piece! Keeps us updated with pics! Jason
  21. It isn't a problem with the wet binding against the body wood, as in warping or anything? I wouldn't think so but anytime I hear water I worry. Thanks for the tips, I would like to bind my upcoming body, maybe a similar binding to what you are using, did you get the whole body done with one piece? Thanks! Jason
  22. Hell yeah, glad to have you back, and you were lucky enough to miss out on all the fun! Jason
