  1. That would depend on the block length...
  2. I'm guessing the wood wasn't made out of several precision-machined parts....
  3. not only that, but cutting mahogany with that thing is a bitch. Very time consuming, and it kinda beats up your hand after a while. Not to mention that with the blade heat, your risk burn marks on your wood (I got a few of those in the process).
  4. I'd take a bandsaw over a jigsaw anyday for body cutting.
  5. I get it... it's like on that V of yours, where you have the darker lines.... only instead of being straight, the lines are wavy.
  6. Not only that, but for the first axe, without a neck pickup, the bridge pickup's going to give you a lot of treble, you may want a neck pickup if you want the bassier qualities, which you might want if you're playing dropped B.
  7. Avatar speakers are also supposed to be really good, and really inexpensive.
  8. Why are you looking at Steve Vai's junk?
  9. well, what you're supposed to be able to do in parallel, is mix how much effect the units in the loop have on the signal, by mixing the loop signal with the original signal. That could get kind of interesting with a wah pedal.... hmmm.
  10. An effects loop goes between the preamp and the power amp of either a head or a combo... direct? Like as in DI? That's a whole different story...
  11. I picked up guitar to do one thing: play Master of Puppets.
  12. I get beautiful fret access on my 22 fret SG... but anyway, I think Wes's Kirk Hammet comment was right on. Personally, I could live without 23 and 24, but it's really annoying not to have them when I need them. My choice, a 22 fret 24.75"... I just love the way they play.
  13. a couple wraps of aluminum tape will do the trick... that's what I did with the StewMac neck template that's .04" too big... you'll need to replace it after each pass, but it holds up better than any other tape I tried (electrical, masking, the works...)
  14. so should I just connect it to the far left node on the volume pot (common ground)? Or to the back of that pot? The wire looks like it's going to either the lug or the back of the pot...
  15. According to Dan Erlewine, it's laced with nickel (and probably a few other metals in trace amounts). I wouldn't imagine that there's anything particularly special about, especially if it's "simple" to make...
  16. On the JS1000 wiring diagram, it shows a wire running from the middle-right lug of the switch on the tone pot to what appears to be the back of the pot... is this correct, or is it running to the left lug of the pot? http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=2002&w=JS1000
  17. Freestyler, I just got done installing a string-thru, and I would recomment the Carvin FT6 (it comes with everything, including eyelets, which you do need unless you are highly skilled with a drill). I'm not sure if the pattern matters, I just marked the hole locations from the bridge, and drilled straight down. The part: http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?...2=FT6C&P1=GTR/K
  18. It's quite simple, really. Supply and demand. That's the price at which they can bring in the most money from that axe (based on their marketing research), so that's the price it gets...
  19. I would guess it's heavilyi dependent on what factory it came out of. A lot of the Ibanez prestige models were made alongside the RG570s, thus the RG570s were produced with top quality machinery and equipment. Jackson may have a similar setup, or they may be operating absolute crap over there, it's hard to tell. It's hard to see them sharing a factory with Ibanez... As for Fender, I really couldn't tell ya. All I can say is that I've heard some really good stuff about those Japanese Squiers.
  20. that's correct... they're not being sold as aftermarket products. Though I'm kind of surprised. If Ibanez released them, they'd fly off the shelves.
