  1. I've got a mighty mite floyd rose and it feels a cheap (which it was), but it works fine. I'm guessing the pups would be the same.
  2. The stuff SK sells (the guy from AMPGE) says sports tape on it so it was originally desgined for sports use. I'm guessing that this is the same stuff as hockey tape (not knowing the first thing about hockey).
  3. I'm very interested in this idea. What is the mould made from and what would you pour in it? If you can do this for a pickup ring could you do it for other plastic components (control knobs, pickup bobbins, etc.)?
  4. Ask them to send you their tonewood catalogue, it's got loads of stuff they don't list on their site. Most body blanks are around £25. Jon
  5. If I rip the sandpaper into smaller parts I write what grade it is in pencil on that back. Simple but it works for me.
  6. It reminds of the body on the latest line 6 guitar. I think it looks good but it's maybe a little too bulky at the bottom for my taste. Jon
  7. I tried quite a few wahs and my fave by far is the Dunlop Cry Baby. I find most other wahs are too "honky" and the sweep isn't as smooth. Three wahs I'd like to try but haven't are the Dunlop Q and Dimebag models and the Boss Variwah digital modelling thing. I think they all look pretty cool. Jon
  8. I think inches are good for big things like measuring planks of wood but for precise measurements you can't beat mm. I think there is nothing worse than trying to work out what 7/32 of an inch are. Jon
  9. I'd invest in those expensive fret files. If you're doing it for money hopefully you'll make your investment back. I think some cheaper tools are often a false economy and if you are working on somebody elses guitar you want to do the best job possible. Jon
  10. I paid £45 to have my frets levelled and crowned here in England.
  11. There's a book called something like "Projects for the Electric Guitar" which is an excellent guide to building fx pedals. It starts with simple stuff like a treble booster and by the end of the book tackles delay, chorus, etc. Jon
  12. I was just wondering waht people think about pickup logos (the little white writing on the front of Seymour Duncans, Dimarzios, etc.)? Do you prefer a pickup to have the logo or not?
  13. My friend's got one. It's great for headphone practice but I don't think it sounds good enough for recording and it's definitely not practical for gigging.
  14. Ernie Balls 'cause Slash uses them.
  15. I like the Pro GAP. It's got some good switching options and great midi control. It's not very versatile but I like to stick a compressor in front of my mine to really boost the input level, it can give a great metal sound when paired with a nice poweramp. I use heads and cabs when I play live but at home I'm a real rack gear nut. I think rack stuff looks great and sounds great in a 80s kinda way.
  16. Pretty hard, no harder than most guitar building though. Check the forum there are lots of threads about pickup building that will give you all the help you need. If you only want a few pickups it's much cheaper just to buy them. Magnet wire usually only comes in large quantities, so unless you want to build 50 pickups, I'd just get a cheap set of Kent Armstrongs or something.
  17. The earvana nut only makes a difference when you are playing open strings, the Buzz Feiten makes a difference on the whole neck.
  18. I think it should work if you get the ohms right.
  19. Try danish oil. It's easy and you can get it from B and Q.
  20. If you're doing a lot of sanding a good face mask is pretty essential too.
