  1. I’m bolting it to a hollow centre block of aluminium, with some wings bolted on…possibly separated a little so you can see the bolts, although not sure yet. Shape isn’t decided yet. On a different note I’m thinking a 2K finish would be good for the neck, considering the overall vibe and the materials. Maybe on the body too. Obviously this isn’t the full width of the neck, still lots of work to do. But I love me a challenge.
  2. Yes I’ve been noticing that recently. You could always go for a brushed aluminium look. Looking great so far anyway!
  3. Just been continuing my current trend of building using odds and sods from the garage. This time with aluminium and plastic in addition to the use of left over carbon fibre from the previous build. One thing that I didn’t envisage was the fact that when working on it the aluminium heats up to such an extent that the epoxy melts and the CF lamination comes loose, for this reason I am using additional bolts for support. For the fretboard section I’m using another 6mm strip of CF and some aluminium. This will have the added benefit of providing more structural support for the tension of the strings. As you can see it’s really rough and ready at the moment, will hopefully look the muts nuts eventually. Some may question the order in which I have done things with regards to the headstock, but there are methods behind the madness. Prettyness will get their eventually, quite industrial at the moment
  4. Absolutely love the finished result! Truly one of a kind.
  5. Congratulations on the win! Awesome looking build
  6. Hmmm a metallic finish would give it a stylish twist, however if you want to continue time honoured tradition then you could go with the burst, it is quite a retro axe after all Not much help I guess
  7. Yes superglue can be hell, I used it as a finish recently and the blowback was unreal Ive found that Gluboost isn’t half as bad though. I think the cheaper stuff has more nastiness in it. Looking awesome!
  8. Great stuff! It’s funny but I was pondering doing that kind of block inlay myself recently, running all the way to the sides. Looks really tidy
  9. Thanks so much for the votes this month! And as always against wonderful competition too! Most honoured
  10. Very nice! The white makes it look really crisp, for want of a better word. Nice riffage too
  11. You say boring, but there’s nothing wrong with tried and tested designs. Can be less of a headache to do too I guess Looking great so far.
  12. This is my sixth build and its a custom of sorts for a friend of mine. It breaks from tradition in a number of ways. Firstly the neck is solid carbon fiber laminate from panels that I had just hanging around in the house. Ofcourse the rigidity of the material means no truss rod. Also there is no fretboard radius, this was a conscious decision based on the fact that it the neck is totally straight. Anyway here’s the specs! Carbon 01 Carbon fiber laminate neck Superglue finish Design - Bolt on (actual bolts, not screws...these were needed on account of the carbon fiber. Scale length - 25. Woods used- Poplar Burl top and English Sycamore neck. Striped Ebony fretboard Inlays - gold leaf with epoxy Pickups - EMG 57/66 Locking Vanson Tuners Wilkinson Tele bridge Will try and get some clips up, been rather delayed on account of the current covid situation. Anyway, good luck everyone!
  13. Congratulations Matt! A lovely work of art and I’m sure a lovely instrument to boot. Well deserved.
  14. Congratulations Andy! And against awesome competition as always. It was a toss up between yours and the mandolin. Beautiful work!
  15. That last guitar has quite a cool finish! How did you achieve that? Is it copper?
  16. Aye sounds good. I’m in Stockton on Tees. Not sure where in terms of venue mind you. Will give it a look in to.
  17. Maybe there could be a forum meet up where everyone brings their guitars, shares tips, maybe a little jam etc. Just putting it out there! I’m in the UK but there could also be meet ups state side and elsewhere.
  18. A bit late I know, but congratulations! Awesome build in every way. Love the inlay
  19. Could do...Another possibility I have thought of is a quasi truss rod cover with a logo on. Could be wood and therefore easier to inlay.
  20. Getting a nice straight line took a while because ofcourse I couldn’t just run a router across it against a template Carving the back with the angle grinder did the job nicely, horrendous amount of dust though so I did that part outside. I actually liked working with it because it’s very predictable, no tear outs and other issues that I have experienced with wood. Will probably get a decal, thanks for the suggestions
  21. Unsure what to do in terms of a logo. It’s carbon fiber so I probably can’t just inlay in to it (maybe a straight line design using a disc on a dremel would work). Anyway...Toyed with the idea of either A - gluing a thin strip of wood laminate on to the headstock (I can’t go too thick because it’s already at about 16mm). Then inlaying something in to that B - A vinyl decal. Quick and dirty but ideal when pressed for time C - Maybe spray the logo on with a stencil D - Gluing the logo straight on there, maybe something made of metal Hmmm
  22. Incidentally, the neck rings like a bell when I do the tap test on it. Yes I know it’s all debatable, but I’m looking forward to how this sustains and sounds.
  23. Gold leaf although old swept up autumnal leaves could look quite interesting
