    i prefer the wilkinson-type trem. but that's just me, due to my personal preference. it's all just a matter of preference and/or playing style. if you think a floyd will best complement your playing style, then go for it. not really true, in my experience. you'll get used to it. that's great. but other brands are just as good. wait for the others to post. again, it's a matter of preference.

    I use Mighty Mite Single coils in my Fernandes Strat. I'm quite happy with the tone and I've decided to leave the logo on the covers alone for now. It's hard to beat considering how much money I spent on it. Then again, I'm no tone nazi either. I was also considering to try the vintage buckers, but I got a used Dimarzio Air Zone cheap from just around here. Some other time, perhaps. My only concern with the prewired pickguards is that I think they're loaded with pickups with ferrite magnets, not alnico. I don't know how different the tone will be, but I'm sure that would be a concern for some people. So, I think it's a good idea to clarify that with the seller in case it's an issue for you.

    are you asking if which of the pickups you mentioned will fit your requirements, or how you're going to build a pickup with tonal characteristics similar to the ones you mentioned?

    I rarely have the luxury of choosing brands. Besides, I don't hear or feel much of a difference anyway, except for those Ernie Ball strings with those stainless steel wounded strings I tried years ago. Right now, I prefer GHS because they're the cheapest ones I can find around here. GHS makes those. I think most major brands have those.

    the neck of the prs kit has an asymmetrical back, at least in mine's case. i'm not disappointed with the apparent quality, considering how much i paid. i really have to get back to working on it. interesting.

    that depends on your standards. i have an evo bridge pickup in one of my guitars. in some instances it's fine for me. other times it's not.

    I believe the Bill Lawrence L-500L is a better choice since you can make it sound like an XL when you use a 250K pot for it. At least that's what Becky said. I myself am working on getting a pair of L-500's. It's quite a challenge when you live outside the US, though.

    On most occasions I just wipe the strings with dry cloth. But sometimes I dampen the cloth with glass cleaner/ammonia. I usually replace strings every 3-5 months and rarely would a string break on me during that time. Using vinegar doesn't make sense to me. It's an acid, and therefore would likely cause oxidation (re: corrosion/rusting) on metal.

    I think lawsuit-era Japanese copies are much better than most Squiers and with a little work, can hold their own against Fenders nicely. I'd recommend checking them out anytime you see one along the way. I suppose I'm lucky enough to find them in relatively low prices, as in US$90-150. I got a Fernandes Revival which I was supposed to re-sell. I changed my mind after playing with it a bit.

    I also have my eye on the SD Pearly Gates pickups. But I still have to work on acquiring a Japanese Les Paul copy first.

    Anyway, about the eBay link you gave, slingsbyt45... Last time I checked, there was one user review on the pickups over at Harmony Central and he was happy with it. For the money, I can vouch for the Mighty Mite Alnico Single Coils, but not the Vintage Buckers since I haven't tried them. I've dealt with the seller twice and he's a nice guy. I live halfway across the globe and had no problems about payment and shipment. It won't hurt to ask him for his opinion on the pickups.

    depends on how thick the decal is. i brandished a thick one a few months back and i had to spray several coats of lacquer over it before levelling it.

    i haven't seen them come in h/s/s sets in eBay. single coils are always sold in threes, and humbuckers in pairs. a have seen a few sold individually, though.

    the alnico ones go around $40 or so in eBay for a set of three.

    I just installed a set of Mighty Mite Alnico single coils on my Fernandes Revival. They sounded quite good yesterday during testing. I'll play with it some more later.

    We have what we call Philippine Mahogany here. I'm not totally sure if it's different from Lauan, but it's a lot grainier than the Honduras variety. I saw this woodworker's website that wasn't impressed with it. As for tone, I know someone who has a guitar made out of it and he's happy. There's also this project I'm helping a friend complete that has that kind of wood. I ought to know in a few months.

    i picked modern rock, but i also do play pop rock, classic rock and metal. whatever i like.

    i use an RP100. lots of cool (as well as cheesy) sounds in it. all i can really complain about it is the occasional noise. i don't like its noise gate too much. but had i the choice back then, i would have picked the RP50 over it, since all i use are reverb, delay, chorus, noise gate and a few amp simulations. but that's just me. your mileage may vary. as for the zoom 505... it seems like a quieter unit, probably because of the ZNR. and a friend of mine is really content with it. i also used it a bit, and seemed good for its price. not much help, am i? well, the bottom line from my point of view is that, assuming all three units are in good qorking condition, it'll be hard to go wrong with any of them.

    i hope you can find a way to do that. or maybe someone already knows a way, aside from gg&g.com. i'd also like to know how.

    I prefer D'Addario 10-46's at the moment. But I'll use anything.
