  1. This is a 20mm top I've had stored in the workshop which is definitely lace sheoak. Dunno if this clears things up. cheers, Stu
  2. Due to the fact they are bloody spammers !!!! Re-instate the death penalty to all convicted spammers I say.
  3. I'm with RG and Ray on this one. It smells decidedly myrtle-ish. And a nice , gentle figure to it also. cheers, Stu
  4. Here's how I do scarf joints. I made a jig for a 10 degree angle which mounts up to my 12" droppy. They come out clean and fit extremely snug first time round. cheers, Stu
  5. Safe-t-planer tutorial any feedback on my tutorial is welcome. After all, if the method needs tweaking, let's tweak it. cheers, Stu
  6. The Safetyplaner makes good sense. I've got 6 aussie tonewood builds on the go at the moment, Ray. A mixture of righties and lefties. Should open a thread I suppose. cheers, Stu
  7. These are the shots I was holding out for. The other pic was low on detail. That is a sensational outcome you've got there, RGGR All you need now is fret, spark her up, set-up and you're done. Those flames and candy apple are gobsmacking!!!!!!! cheers,Stu
  8. Hey RGGR, One more month to wait and you could have had a baby Good to see things have finally come full circle. Well done. Now get that sucker finished!!! cheers,Stu
  9. Thanks for the shoutout , Deano To be truthful, all I've done is bounce your ideas straight back at you, so, It's your own design and work on show. ( I got to see Deano's design portfolio for this build (School project) when he dropped it around last Sunday, and there is a lot of great ideas going on in that brain of his.) How about a bit of info on how you did it . etc....glue method, timbers used, la-di-da............ Not even I've been privvy to these details yet. All in all a very nicely executed binding/purfling around the headplate. very nice indeed. cheers, Stu
  10. do you cut the angle on the neck heel or on the neck pocket??
  11. Maybe at the ripe age of 35 I'm finally starting to find the simplicity of the telecaster shape appealing. This could be a major undercurrent flowing it's way to the surface...................Oh well, I guess I shouldn't fight it. Well done, Wes on the tele to date, and the colour and burst came up a treat. Really suits it. !!! cheers,Stu
  12. Special mention to Mick and his '54. Well done on your build Mickguard. Killemall8......although I'm a metal-head, this didn't really grab me. Maybe the photo res. let you down a bit. I'm looking for detail and it's hard to see with your pics, I'm sorry. congrats on the build achievement. Lee got my vote..........only just, though. Beautiful, simple and uncluttered. Well finished.
  13. I've used a 1.4mm on several builds and had no dramas, although a larger tip will give you more flow and a quicker build up . It's all personal tastes , but I am changing to a 1.8 or 2.0mm for higher build up. cheers, Stu
  14. haha but texas is a state and austrlia as a country.........a frieken huge one..and no ones from sydney So Tim, you're telling me there's not a single member of this forum in Sydney? There has to be ............... In fact , off the top of my head I can name Thirdstone as your neighbour. I'll tell you what. If you organise a big get together in oz (Sydney) and you get a fair indication of a good turnout, I'll fly to Sydney and meet you and other interested parties for a PG Oz forum. Or you could move to Melbourne, Perth, Queensland or Adelaide and be nearer to the rest of us. (B.T.W I caught up with Deano a.k.a. 'the axe' on ther weekend and we did some building at my digs. He's got a build thread in progress and it's gonna be a cracker!!!) cheers, Stu
  15. I also live a couple of kilometres from the Maton factory and drive past it every day for work. he he he Just thought I'd rub it in
  16. I think I'm guilty on both of those occasions ripper, Stu
  17. That's still a bloody ripper price , even including postage to oz. Congrats. on the bulk bonanza buy, Perry. Thanks for the link Wes. Always good to know where little gems can be found Cheers, Stu
  18. G'day RG. In regards to Tas. oak/ Vic. ash tops on Maton electrics, they do exist. The 2000dlx I own has one on it and it's a ripper. I agree on the limited use for it but nevertheless I'm going to experiment on necks and chambered bodies for the hell of it. Could end up a stinker or could be a pleasant surprise!!! cheers, Stu
  19. I like what I see in the pics Dean. Very pleasing on the eye, and that figured QLD maple will look killer too. Thinking everything through makes the building process easier and definitely more enjoyable. I still reckon you should inlay, maybe not that design though. Think of something that is personal and means something to you....... And how about an update ? Or you could just bring it over when you come by the workshop next cheers, Stu
  20. Maybe Tim, you need to come to Melbourne I'll be waiting.............................. cheers, Stu
  21. I finally met Brian d for the first time today. I went around to his house, where we showed off our latest builds and then spent the rest of the day chatting away and assembling his new drillpress and bandsaw. Even got to use them both. he he he I really enjoyed the experience in meeting someone off of the forum and discussing things guitar-related. It's also great to see other concepts and ideas in building up close. If you're out there Brian, thanks for your hospitality........ and the goncalvo alves billet. cheers, Stu
  22. Once you have your outer template for your cavity cover recess made, trace around it using a pencil placed inside a microsized washer. The washer shrinks down the size of your drawn cavity hole by whatever thickness width the outer sleeve of the washer is (in my case, about 2 mm). I then rough cut it on the bandsaw and finish it up using a beltsander tilted 90 degrees on a jig. beltsand away to your lines and then either use that as your template or re-cut another to suit. Cut one by hand for a template, then from then on it's templated. cheers, Stu
  23. I made my own binding at 6mm deep by 2mm wide. The ebony was cut from a sacrificial fretboard and the qld maple from the edge of my figured body blank. It worked a treat. finished article cheers, Stu
  24. Well done on the first build, Paul You've brought a heap of really interesting ideas to the table with this one. (hmm.......which idea to use first..) And good on ya for moving outside your comfort zone and giving it a red-hot crack. cheers, Stu
