  1. Adrian's been relying on his gold top Les Paul, double neck Jackson and an old SG on the new album.
  2. All good candidates this month. If all these guitars were on stands in front of me, and begging to be picked up and played, I'd have to say Rashin's for sheer style simplicity. 1 piece Cocobolo + push-in pots Dangerous but elegant curves.
  3. I 'd crossed my fingers in hope that you'd post some revealing pics. Any text books that you recommend or are using in combination with the course? That's golden, Brian
  4. Good on ya Brian I spoke with Fiona, a.k.a 'myguitar' yesterday at the working with wood expo. Even got to have a sticky at her acoustic she made. It's a very nice piece of work. And making acoustic guitars is definitely something I want to learn in the future. It's a ten week course right? What week you up to and what stage are you at? cheers, Stu
  5. Put the bottlecaps back on. Then you can convert it into a lagerphone lagerphone pics.
  6. I picked up a similar set today at a woodwork expo in Melbourne...... And I also bumped into a fellow member in 'myguitar'. For those who can't remember , myguitar posted pics of her acoustic guitar she built not too long ago. It looks even better in person. Have a look-see. LINK cheers, Stu
  7. Floyd-Rose website I think this is classed as spoonfeeding.
  8. There was a thread devoted to gun choice and preferred techniques no more than a month ago. Can't remember what it was called. Hunt that one out and you're guaranteed to get a view from a few different positions. I prefer using a HVLP gravity with a 1.3 tip for bigger stuff and a mini version of the same for bursts and touch-ups. It's all a matter of personal taste with guns, though. It's not so clear cut when people use different techniques. The three spray painters I used to work with had all differing preferences from newer HVLP gravity guns to the old big tip, high volume , high air displacement pressure fed guns. Both good in their own right. The interesting thing was that they all pulled great results off the gun due to the fact they were comfortable in their choice of guns and altered their technique accordingly. cheers, Stu
  9. This is impeccable timing on your behalf, Rich. There's a HUUUGE woodworking expo in Melbourne this weekend and I'm planning to go to it in a matter of hours. Once a year this thing rolls into town. I doubt that same brand of clamp will be on sale, though I'm sure I'll find something along the same lines as yours. And no, I'm not even contemplating the $399 steel version. Although it could be a useful tool in times when torture is called upon. Great for cracking bones. Stu
  10. Can you imagine a President (any one will do) in front of a nuclear weapons control desk , looking avidly at a big flashing red button which says ' Don't touch'. Hmm, what does this button do?...............Press...... Similar scenario I guess. I like your brand of humour, Prostheta.
  11. Here's an alternative to timber......D.I.Y. steel/alloy square tubing click me Just don't look at the price......OUCH Food for thought anyways.
  12. I like how this one turned out. Sometimes subtlety produces much better results, and in this case I think that holds up extremely well. Glad to hear the pool wasn't used for the dipping. cheers, Stu
  13. There is only one reason you can't get by with one HVLP for colour and clear, and that is laziness. If you can't clean a gun out properly from the colour to clear phase, then you're not cleaning methodically. It is a matter of wash, spray, wipe and check over optically. Repeat if required. I've done many a spray finish on Automotive full resto jobs on the one HVLP and cleaned the gun thoroughly between the colour and clear coat cycle. It's not hard , it is nothing more than common sense. And what's more .......if you're spraying a job in, I dunno, let's say red mica, then you spray your clear coat over that with the same poorly cleaned gun, all you'll get at worst is a small dose of tinted clear. The problem only occurs to detriment when the colour of your previous job , let's say blue, comes out in your next job, which just might be a white pearl job. And that can/will and does occur in any gun earmarked only for colours cheers, Stu
  14. Mate........I'm 34 and I still don't own a gibson, nor a strat. That hurts just a tad. welcome Joe. Post some pics of your gear if you get the chance to. cheers, Stu
  15. How far do these trademarks stretch? Is it just the name? i.e. Does using a different name but same font get you a slap on the wrist, too ? Nothing sinister planned, just curious as to the legal parameters in this trademark issue. cheers, Stu
  16. Not the preferred method to get a great finish at all. But if that's all you got to work with, You can give it a crack. Just expect a lot of time spent on the wet and dry. With Auto paints (2 pack I'm referring to) there is no substitute for a spray gun when it comes to producing a great finish. Cheers, Stu
  17. I haven't used one, and considering it only seems to be available in right Handed, I doubt I'll get to experience it, either. ( I only play left-handed to spite myself ) The marketing blurb does sound impressive though. That is if you you prefer barking mids to muddy bass. At that price , it's worth a shot.
  18. Can you hear the audiences' applause, Godin? I think it's time to take a bow I couldn't work out whether you were stilll in teenage-hood or had a fair quota of whatever Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid) had in his bloodstream keeping him youthful. p.s. you moisturise, right? Awww..... shucks, when I was you're age I wasn't doing all that much and definitely not making my mark on the guitar making community. Although I was good at giving my Dad the S@#ts. Great detail.
  19. by Frank Zappa with Captain Beefheart nuances thrown in for good measure. Deeper than the deep blue ocean, Drak. I'm also hankering for some more all over pics.
  20. Careful how and when you use that word. It's been known to *jinks* many a good job Remember the Hindenberg? Someone said " And that's a *perfect* landing."
  21. It's very sad, and unfortunately similar occurences happen too many bloody times for anyone's good. We had a horrible scenario years ago at Port Arthur in Tasmania, Aus. A very black day.
  22. I'm looking at all the phillips screws on the pick-up ring Guilty and.............Guilty
