  1. I think you'll be fine using McFaddens. They're both nitro, and good quality nitro at that. CMA
  2. Mark, I think you must be the official "link fixer" of the guitar building and refinishing forum world! And yeah, $20 is a bit steep. MIMF sells their plans for $15. CMA
  3. Erik's --- I absolutely love the wood combinations and Myka style control placement is awesome! The craftsmanship is excellent. It really does look beautiful. Unfortunately, for me, I don't like fanned frets or eight strings, and the combination of both compounds the issue. Not something I can see myself playing, but amazing job nonetheless! Blackdog's --- Wow! A fantastic job on your first build! Again, I love the wood combinations here. And the inlays add a unique touch of class to the whole design, without being gaudy. Love the truss rod cover! I would love to play this guitar! Digit's --- Very impressive inlay job! But, I think it is way to much for this build, personally. I'm not digging the headstock either. Love the body! Daniel's --- ....Man....my thirst for beautiful acoustics can never be satisfied, but this darn well comes close! Superb craftsmanship! The choice of woods is very cool, and it looks absolutely gorgeous! I'm not generally a fan of cutaways, but I can't help but like it in this case, especially with the exceptional use of the rosewood bindings. The Texas inlay is cool too! Overall, it came down to a very close tie between Blackdog and Daniel. Really had a tough time deciding on this one. In the end, I have to go for Daniel's acoustic. It was very close, but I'm a sucker for nice acoustics. CMA
  4. Try giving Gallery Hardwoods a call. http://www.galleryhardwoods.com CMA (P.S. It would be helpful to know your location.)
  5. Yeah, they're called "concentric pots" as mentioned by a couple of the previous posters. You can get them at most e-tailers of guitar parts. CMA
  6. Here is a miter box plan: http://www.scalelength.com/catalog/ CMA
  7. My poor friend the Tele neck pup. So much hate... As much as I love the traditional neck pup, mini humbuckers do sound nice in a Tele. I really like the tones you can get from Brent Mason's setup, very versatile. Very nice guitar by the way! CMA
  8. Amazing pukko! I always love to see what you've got in the works; heck, I'm still drooling over your first build! This one is great, very well executed, and excellent balance, as jmrentis suggested. Any ideas for the finish? CMA
  9. Awesome! Love your work, Jehle, and the sound clip was great. I have a couple of cigar boxes laying around myself... CMA
  10. If you live near a Lowes, Home Depot, or auto shop, you will find a lot of spraycans with many colors to choose from. If you know of a car that has or once had that particular color, or something close, it would be easy to get that color. CMA (P.S. Fender used lacquer on their early guitars, not poly)
  11. I'm glad to see you're finally back in action, al! Great looking bass by the way. Any plans finish your other build(s)? CMA
  12. Hehe, thanks for bumping my thread Greg! I really am trying to get some work done on it. I finally get the chance to start the build, and shortly thereafter I find myself too busy to mess with it! But things are calming down now, so I hope to get some serious work done very soon. Starting work on the neck is actually what I plan to do next. As for the templates, the body drawing was created by Terry Downs, a veteran member of TDPRI, and the neck drawing was put together by another member of TDPRI, Andre Ripoll. If any of you guys would like to have the drawings, I would be more than happy to provide them. Just shoot me a PM! CMA
  13. Welcome to PG! Ibanezcollector does indeed frequent the ReRanch forum, ihocky2. I've already commented on your stuff at ReRanch, but it's worth saying it again. Great job on the relics! CMA
  14. Well, you definitely skipped some grits (even missing some in the first list), and you didn't go very high. That could be your problem. I was just looking around and I found a post by Drak that seems to describe your problem to a tee. Might find it helpful. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...st&p=358486 Stew-mac sells micro-mesh sandpaper (Clicky), which should really help you get some serious shine. It basically replaces polishing compound. Oh and one other thing, Drak mentions it but I will as well, I noticed you only put 5-6 coats down. That doesn't sound like much, and considering that your going to have to go back and sand again, you could be looking at a lot of sand-through. It might be a good idea to lay a little more clear down, just in case. CMA
  15. What do you mean by three different types of sandpaper? Three different grits? CMA
  16. That sounds odd. What brand/type is it and what were your polishing steps? CMA
  17. No need to sand the color coats unless you have a run or dirt in the paint. Tack cloth can be used to remove stuff like dust and lint. CMA
  18. I've seen your stuff killemall, I think you do great work. It's just a crying shame that you have to use such a bad camera, it's hard to really appreciate your work! If you end up making some money off of this, buy a new camera! CMA
  19. Yep. Wal-mart, sporting goods, gun shops....those are your best bets. CMA
  20. Yeah, I look at it occasionally. What's the hold up? The ReRanch forum just did a group build, of course the neck wasn't made from scratch, but it virtually came together in just a few days. Around 20 or so participants, I think. Currently it's being finished. (clicky) CMA
  21. I would love a genre specific build off, but as these guys have said, it rarely, if ever, works out. Now, a couple of group builds, like the blues tribute guitar, would be really cool, and much more feasible. CMA
  22. Glad it worked out, the table looks great! Be sure to post pics when you get the second one built. That reminds me, I think I'll get a newer pic of my table as well. Since building it, we made a light for it and installed a drill press on it. One or two of those vises (I think they're called bench vises, jmrentis) would indeed be the cat's pajamas. CMA
  23. That's odd, I don't recall having that issue. You'd think the weight of the base would give it a good connection. Could you stand on it as you screw it down? Seems like that would ensure a good connection. If not, you could do as you suggested. Have somebody sit/lay on it from the top while you are under it. CMA
