  1. I read awhile ago that the blades should be set for 55 deg. for a hard and soft woods. Hope that helps.
  2. I have two of the Fender copy basses. Both play and sound pretty good, very good for the price! Four piece alder bodies, lacquer finish (with minor flaws); low quality tuners and electronics, stamped bridge. Generally inexpensive parts, but compare it to a MIM Fender, or even a American standard these basses rock. I imagine the guitars are the same, or similar.
  3. SG uses a 24.75" scale, so I'm not sure you can use a 25.5" scale without moving the bridge. Is the body already routed? Are the bridge bushings installed yet?
  4. That is a clean looking axe. Simple and functional. Nice work.
  5. Extrordinary! Do I detect a new winner for the GOTM? I hope guitar so that is so nice. (Double the drools on that one!)
  6. It is not my style either, but I think the second one is less bright than the first. Easier on the eyes. Don't let any negative comments stop you from doing it if thats what you want. It is you that needs to pleased with it , so go for it.
  7. Very nice indeed. Looking forward to better pics, but that still looks good I like really like the night time look.
  8. I've used the vinger and steel wool in a jar idea (let it sit for a few weeks or longer), and it stained the wood nicely. I just wiped it on and buffed it with a clean rag. The plastic inlay was not harmed at all. I made a big jar to last along time and my dear wife tossed it.
  9. I've never used binding (yet), but I know it is straight and you have to conform it to your body, or neck. That's where a lot of big rubber bands come in handy. Do a search and you should find much more info.
  10. Wow! Beeeeutifuull! The Leviathan is one of the sweetest designs I've ever seen. In any color combo.
  11. Those are super gorgeous looking guitars there. I spent a lot of time just looking at them and drooling on the keyboard.
  12. There should be installation instructions with it, but even without it shouldn't be hard. If there is already an end jack even easier. If not tape the wood at the area where the endpin is( after removing the pin!) and drill the proper hole through the tape to avoid tearout, or use a reamer.
  13. I think it will go over well in the market. Go for it.
  14. Very nice. I like the pickguard choice it sets it apart from most Tele's. Great job.
  15. You could try a bass combo. Something tubed. I played for years on an Ampeg B-15 Portaflex and the tone was clean and incredible. Just a thought.
  16. I really like the pattern. I think you should try the brass idea. That would look really great inlaid. The pictures don't look that bad, so it's hard to see much in the way of gaps. The brass would be a nice divider for the wood. But, that is my opinion and not necessarily what others would do.
  17. Yeah! USACG doesn't have the wood selection or the different head shape options.
  18. I've had a warmoth neck on a bass and liked it alot, but I like USA Custom Guitars necks even more. Tommy the guy who runs USACG worked at Warmoth for years as did most of his employees. Give them a shot and see. You won't regret it.
  19. I sprayed the acryllic directly on the fret board. It may or may not be tough enough, but I won't find out for awhile. The bass won't be finished for awhile unless we get a warm spell. As far as poly-It should be plenty tough enough. Go ahead an try it. It can always be sanded off later and epoxy used instead. I read a site where they used a thinned epoxy and put a couple of coats on, but they did not mention how the fretboard was reradiused or how or if they polished the epoxy afterward. This is all an experiment for me. I'll learn more the more I do it.
  20. Gee, I never messed up a guitar project.
  21. Old axiom: Measure twice, cut once. OK maybe not entirely accurate in this case. Anyway sorry to hear that, so how did that happened?
  22. After fighting the weather (trying to get my bass finished) and not having much luck. I decided next time it would be an oil finish, or maybe french polish. I'm done with spraying.
  23. Don't keep! Send it to me so I can tell you if I like it or not. Save the measurements if you decide to get rid of it. I would like to try a semi hollow bass next year.
