  1. the new marshall solid state stuff is good, and isnt as overpriced as their valve stuff, and as someone said, check randall. mike
  2. i was gonna buy a washburn onetime, and upgrade it, but i bought something else, cant think of it, but the washburn shapes have gone crap, but i dont know about the oscars. however i think the washburn is a good guitar, so i spose it would be quite good. mike
  3. the intonation would be shot i think, and we would need to know the guitar type. i think baritone necks are thicker mike
  4. tips: check your leads before you play, my bro and i and my mates were playin at the school for about 800ppl, and his pedal was unplugged! so i ended up with no rhythm player, and he had a short solo which cues the singer in, and when it didnt work the singer was like wha...? i however played faster solos and louder riffing to compensate! also, string control at high volume is critical, as the tiniest movement on the guitar and you have thump thump thru the amp! feedback is a total slag, its position dependant, so check where you stand before if you can! cyas mike
  5. i think that this is a great thread! i would like to know if anyone has any tips or tricks to improve my sweeping technique. sometimes i sweet, and its beautiful, like how its meant to be done, but then when i try to do the more complex sweeps im shafted, does anyone have any tips on this? and how do you preserve note clarity at high gain? thanks mike
  6. i havent, but i cant wait for the DVD, cos i really wanna hear Yngwie play! he is awesome, and alongside Satch AND Vai! this would be one hell of a concert! mike
  7. i must say the EMG81 isnt harsh (on my guitar and amp setup) but i have a big amp! they have good harmonics, i have also found that my EMG60 is a beautiful pickup, which is underestimated! however, assuming you dont want EMG's id go for: the Dimebucker in bridge position (a hot pickup) an alnico bridge pickup, like a PAF pro etc... i would however use the EMG's, but i can respect that you are after a new or different tone for change, but i like my EMG's! mike
  8. if its john petrucci, the v-amp should get the tone, i dont think the 707 would be able to, its not very versatile, also he uses some 7 strings, which are thicker, even when playing the same pitch. he used to use an Ibanez, but it now with musicman. the ibanez had a more trebly sound, and i preferred it, as it was cooler, hehe mike
  9. nerd guitar's 9th chords are cool, try the following, it sounds quite good. e--0--0--7--5 B--0--0--7--5 G--5--5--8--7 D--5--5--7--7 A--0--5--8--5 E--0--5--7--5 strum slowly, and laid back, clean it uses a minor 9th, a diminished chord and a Dm7 chords. mike
  10. i agree with funkle, the progression is important, aswell as the chord. try some diminished chords, they are quite jazzy, like Cdim or Cdim7th these are cool, mike
  11. soo true! i passed up the chance to buy a decent jackson, an old cool one for 50 quid, i spent the money on a 505II effects pedal, boy did i feel suckered! however ive got rid of the 505II and use Korg and have a beautiful Ibanez, so im okay, lol mike
  12. i know what you mean, Iron Maiden totally own! their songwriting is class, and solos rule!
  13. the tun-o-matic is probably the best bet, as its easir to do, however go with floyd if you feel confident enough to do it
  14. it aint pa-tay-to or anything daft like that, its SPUD
  15. i think one of the first songs i was at was Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden
  16. petruccis ibanez isnt that special, but it looks cool, and functional, less is more, and its just cool, btw where is the vai universe jem7?
  17. IBANEZ!!!! they offer soo much more for soo much less, compared to fender etc... thats why i own one!
  18. the tunng oil ages nicely to give a vaintage look, which i like, so thats what id do, and its what im gonna do to the next guitar i build, i like the old vintage look, its class. otherwise polyurethane gives a great tough finish, like on the neck of my blue kit gibbo anyhow, cyas mike
  19. the ibanez lo pro is soo smooth ill have to go with it
  20. thats a horrible question, im 16 and i have 3 guitars, 1 guitar for the rest of my life, aaargh. i think the YJM Stratocastor would be the one, as its soo cool, and special looking, probably in the cherry red colour
  21. theres neigh muckin with 24 fret necks! the 2 octave span on any sting is cool, and as previously mentioned its easier playin the higher frets. id however like to try a 27 or 29 fret guitar just for the hell of it mike
  22. started playin about 11, with a big fat ol nylon acoustic, which i still have! the origional strings, 6 years later, however they are a bit dingy. mike
  23. ill be interested to see how this fares! cyas mike
  24. what would be the ultimate shredders telecaster? i have several ideas, and another guy has suggested some, as follows i think they should have flatter necks, and have trems, with big meaty humbuckers (EMG's) if i had my way. also jumbo fretwire, and scalloped fretboard. i was suggested that 24-27 frets would be cool, also with upside down "f" holes. anyhow post away, Mike
  25. are compound radius nacks any good, and what are the benefits, like lower action etc... thanx mike
