  1. Just keep at it, with breaks to keep your temper. It is going to be fantastic when it is done and thus worth it.
  2. I have a tele bass copy. While a copy it looks close and it is bigger. I don't see how it would work if it wasn't.
  3. I think a hump in your neck is possible. Try and adjust the neck as straight as possible and then check it with a straight edge. It is not unusual for thinner bolt necks to get a hump around were they meet the body. If that is the case you can either live with a higher action or have a re-fret with some work done on the fretboard to remove the hump. While you have the straight edge out you should check to see if you have a high fret. Wood can dry out in the winter causing a fret or frets to come loose.
  4. Many thanks for the clear photos and explanation.
  5. It is not unusual for the TOM to have a slightly flatter radius than the board. At 0.003 I don't see a problem.
  6. Looks like a good one. I wish that I found wood like that for free.
  7. I have thought about this too. I suspect that it is done that way as it is easier. I know that people that use tune-o-matic bridge tail piece setups debate the best angle. It is always substantially less then 90 degrees.
  8. Try cleaning them before you take them apart. Most sealed tuners are not very repairable. That said some have a plastic washer under the button that can get crushed and make them turn unevenly.
  9. +1 on loosen, clean and then lube before tightening. Check to see if the washer is being pushed into the wood of the neck. Sometimes if that is the case, as second washer can help.
  10. Go for the Corvus and make it so classy that you silence all the critics
  11. In the US it is called a diamond sharpening stone. The grit is rarely specified by number but rather as medium, fine, extra fine, etc. A chef supply place would be your best bet.
  12. Can't help with the finishing but don't burn anything that was grain filled with CA indoors. The fumes are very bad.
  13. Taylor makes really great quality instruments in my experience, and I'm quite partial to their sound. 9 times out of 10, cracking tops are due to users not taking proper care of their acoustic instruments; airconditioned and heated homes with temperatures and humidity flying all over the map will crack a top in no time flat, and that's the guitar owner's fault. I agree that is often the case. But, in at least the one case I know the guy and he is very careful, not only keeping the guitar cased with a humidifier in the heating months but using one in his studio as well. Taylor gave him some serious hassles asking him to prove that he had done so.
  14. That is going to be one sweet guitar.
  15. You could bring the pictures to the pawn shop. That way there is less risk of them being sold before you get a chance to check. Good luck.
  16. There are several potential problems: They are usually set into a laminate board so that the grain grips them from several directions; They are used on instruments that are typically tuned much less frequently then guitars. The "gear ratio" would be so high as to make tuning a real PITA; They are designed for unwound strings (on a piano the winding does not go all the way to the peg). Perhaps it would help if you told us why you were interested in using them.
  17. Try posting in the electronics section. Acoustic is not the way to go here (though it would fix the problem)
  18. Also try new strings. They can make a differance if they are old and crudded up, particularly with harmonics.
  19. No I think its hand made For the younger ones here, back in the 70's Leo Quan made bridges with the trade name Badass.
  20. Since people experiment with pups in strats all the time you should be able to find used originals with out breaking the bank.
  21. It also could be wired out of phase. I think DiMarzio has wiring diagrams at their site.
  22. If she plays half as good as she looks now, you don't have to worry about relicing. It will happen naturaly.
  23. Wow, just wow. I am gearing up for my first build and if it comes out 1/10th as good I will be a happy man.
  24. Thumbs up on the Pacifica. I have one of the Strats. I put new tuners on it and installed some lace pickups that I got of the bay, shielded the body andthe pickguard, as well as cleaned up some rough frets. It plays and sounds very nice and I learned some along the way
