Ok, this is it. I'm not talking about the songs with the most technique, or by your favorite artists. I want to know what you guys think are the ten essential songs for the acoustic guitar. These songs need to sound good without vocal accompinament, they need to be recognized by everybody, and they need to be pretty easy to play. These need to be the essentials, classic songs that people drop quarters in your case for playing. Reckon it's bein' darn time to hear some a y'alls 'pinions. neal

Hey Hey What Can I Do? - Led Zep

How could I forget those? LZ really made it cool for rock bands to go acoustic...they had an entire acoustic album for pete's sake! Forerunners of the 'MTV Unplugged' movement you might say.

...for those of you old enough to remember when MTV actually showed music.

The song from at the end of the Wedding Singer is number one in my book (The one Adam Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore on the plane).

Not that I particularly like it, but its fairly easy to play, and, well, honestly, I have slept with all 5 girls I have played it for (I think its the magic song!)

Now THAT is a cool song!

LOL I just pictured that as a music video in my head, each girl sitting on your couch as you play that song and then she melts and feels so special and that she is the only one and gives it up to you for that , shame on you hehehehehehehe

I think you should change your name to Theif of Hearts hehehehehehe

Buy the Neil Young Songbook and pick -any- ten in there. :D

Acoustic Ramones is fun too if your into bold vigorous strumming on acoustic.

-Lots- of people recognize Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, Rockaway Beach, or several others, even bashing them out on acoustic, and it's -fun- to play a very 'vibrant' acoustic song once in awhile to break up the 'folk singer' la-de-da tempo stuff, change of pace so to say...especially on some old Gibson J-200 or a Guild, those things are great chunky volume boxes for that upbeat hard strummin stuff.

Think Elvis here. :D

Kansas - Dust in the Wind

Heart - Dog & Butterfly

Beatles - Dear Prudence

Beatles - Here Comes the Sun

...and 3 more already mentioned that I think are great acoustic songs,

Duane Allman - Little Martha

Black Crowes - She Talks to Angels

Zeppelin - Bron-Y-Aur

They aren't too tough to learn but they sound great and are well known.

I like the acoustic guitar in alot of Simon & Garfunkel (ala Scarborough Fair), James Taylor (ala You've got a Friend) & Jim Croce (ala Operator) songs. If you can get past the feeling that your listening to 'your parents' music you'll hear some great guitar.

Alright I play acoustic ALOT, and I can convert just about any song into an acoustic song with minor changes here and there to make it more suitable.Any Neil Young, Dave Matthews Band, alot of the Grateful Dead songs, some Phish, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, just about any Pink Floyd, and some Stevie Ray Vaughan. I could go on all day with acoustic songs but I'll just make a short list of a few our band jams around with.

Tears in Heaven (Clapton)

The House Of The Rising Sun (Animals)

Stairway To Heaven (Zeppelin)

Hotel California, Seven Bridges Road, Desperado, Witchy Woman, ext.. (Eagles)

Freebird (Skynyrd)

Needle And The Damage Done (Neil Young)

Shooting Star (Bad Company)

For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield)

Horse With No Name (America)

The Rain Song (Zeppelin)

Like I said the list can go on and on and on, but my all time favorite is Life By The Drop by Stevie Ray Vaughan!!!!!!

Is this kinda what you were thinking?
