Can anybody fill me in on what happened to Scott?

I looked up his last post where he said he would not be in a position to build anymore...PM me if it's not appropriate to post here (not trying to hijack the new lifeblood of the thread), but I'd like to know how he's doing and thanks.

Scott quit building due to a job change and not enough time to build anything. He said he still does repairs every now and again, but no more building.

The guitar came today. The condition really wasn't as bad as the auction made it seem. I got the 12 string neck all smoothed out and I put a thicker asymmetrical profile on the back. I wanted to keep that neck thicker due to the extra tension of the 6 extra strings. I started to radius the fingerboard, but there are some cracks I have to fill in with epoxy and ebony dust at the 24th fret. I feel like I got a lot done today in the couple hours I worked on it. I will post pictures tomorrow. The body is beautiful, once together this thing is going to be a hell of a guitar. Would you guys keep the Schaller Floyd on it or would you swap it out with a low pro? I'm leaning towards swapping the bridge and routing the cavity to accommodate the new trem. I didn't know that the 6 string neck was a reverse headstock but its not a big deal, and it looks cool. One weird thing is though the headstock almost looks stupid long, but looking at pictures of a pgm it looks like Ibanez reverse headstocks just look longer. Ill be sure to post a bunch of pictures of all angles of the guitar so you guys can drool over it lol.

Here are the pictures. I still have to finish shaping the volute and the heel on the 12 string. Obviously I have to shape the 6 string, which I will most likely start today.

Heres the body, I have not touched this yet, I will most likely leave this one for last. On the 12 string I am going to add another screw/ferrule for stability.

The 24th fret chipped off and Scott started to repair it. After I trued the sides of the fretboard to the neck there were still some visible cracks and the bass side of the fret slot was huge so I needed to fill it and reslot it.

Here are the rest of the pics I took.

Sorry I haven't posted updates, I have been busy figuring out what I am going to do with this thing. Today I routed the neck pocket so the 6 string neck will actually fit. I don't have an updated picture of the body but all the tool marks have been removed and the heels have been shaped.

Here is the mirrored fretboard.

Both necks are shaped and finished sanded. All I need to do is buy tuners, nuts and fret wire. Next on the agenda is to mount the 12 string bridge and install the ferrules (string and neck). Somehow the body isn't flat, when I put my straight edge across it gaps in the middle by 1/16 of an inch. So now I have to figure out how to make it true. the naked eye cannot see it, but it will make wet sanding after paint a pain in the ass.

Not much progress due to another project that I got going on.

I started fretting the necks. I tried out some Stew Mac fret wire (was using Dunlop before) and I really like it. Also this tread isn't creating the buzz I thought it would when I revived it.

Anyway here are the pics:

The 6 string neck still needs leveled, dressed, polished, and the ends beveled. I think when I get some free time this weekend I will do that. I will probably place another order to Stew Mac next week for the ferrules and other hardware. It will be a while before I take the loan out :D to buy the tuners :D

BTW that wierd "dent" on the treble side on the 12string at the first fret is a wierd cosmetic issue that I have no clue as to how it got there. But the fretboard is completely flat, so other then an annoying eye sore it shouldn't effect playability.

Thats all for now.

Is the body getting painted? I hope so - the blue inlays aren't matching up well with what I'm guessing is mahogany.

I'm with you on that one. Other color, gold maybe, would had been a better choice. Maybe adding some purfling of the same stone on the body... I don't know, there is most definitely a clash between the Limba, Gold hardware and the blue inlays. Works looks top notch, I love those inlays.

That sir is most def. Limba, and if he paints over it... there will be blood.

Chris

Yes it is, and a nice and clean one I must say!

Its getting cleared. I would most definitely shed a tear if I painted a solid color over this beautiful wood.

Glad you are, nice clean looking Limba! Progress is going good, keep us updated.

Well the gold bridges came with the body and necks so I really didn't have a choice. I still have time to add a binding or purfling of some sort. I am open to opinions on what to do. I also agree the blue clashes with the limba and the gold hardware, but we will figure it out lol.

Thanks for the kind comments,

Chris

I don't think that the blue inlay clashes with everything else, I think it just looks a little awkward being isolated to the fretboard. A bit more blue somewhere else could tie it together and make it look more unified.

I think a purfling or binding scheme on that body might be a bit much - what about tying it together with matching blue pickup rings and a switch tip? That could pull the color from the inlays down into the body a bit.

Actually, that might be a bit much too.

EDIT:

I'm bored, cruddy photoshop mockup;

The aftermarket blue rings and knobs I've seen have been a bit bright to match, but you could paint parts.

It's kind of a neat look, but I can see how it would be very different from the plan. If it were a single neck build with just a couple knobs, I could see tying the inlay and plastic bits together like that looking very cool, but with all the scattered hardware on this, I can see it being a bit much!

Maybe just something like this You get to tie in the gold hardware and the blue in the inlay
