msherman
Scale is 30". Body is Black Limba, Ebony F/B.
TheIRS
The amount of extended range instruments lately is mind boggling! That black Limba looks absolutely amazing! Is the ebony FB going to be stained black or left streaky like it is naturally?
Xanthus
That is one pretty neck! What laminates do you have in there? And I want to see the size of the guy that's going to be playing this 30" scale guitar
msherman
The neck is Maple, Wenge, & Purple Heart. The F/B is not going to be dyed. The owner is 6`1", so he should be able to handle it. Note the figure (or should I say the finger) on the headstock cap! TheIRS
That guitar is flipping the bird! Edited March 28, 2008 by TheIRS
Bassisgreat
where/why have you been hiding these beauties?!? awesome. I haven't even seen the third thread yet, but instead of commenting there, I'm just gonna say "that's awesome!" here, then go see what it is. Daniel Sorbera
Nice build. I like the body, the finish looks good, that neck is amazing, and that piece of limba is to die for.
Kenny
hey i dont know if your remember me but i messaged you on myspace a while ago about your 7 string orange guitar, aswell as the bass with the extended fretboard. anyways good to see you on projectguitar now that build looks clean, the shape reminds me of the orange 7 string guitar. i like the neck laminates you used, aswell as the volute, clean work Kenny
msherman
Hey Kenny, how`s things? You mean the 8 string? It has the back half of that design, morphed with a front have of an RG with elongated horns.
Jon
Hey Michael, did you ever finish the 10-string guitar? It was linked on the ERB forum about a year ago, it's one hell of an inspiring design!
msherman
No, there were some things I wasn`t happy with surrounding that one. There are two 7 string basses in process in that design that will be finished next month though.
Kenny
yeap that one :-p your a great builder keep it up!
erikbojerik
That is one pretty neck! What laminates do you have in there? I'm guessing flame maple, ebony (or wenge) and padauk. Reminds me of something I've seen before.... oh yeah! I just threw in some walnut too... That neck is now 3 years old, and padauk has a way of getting darker with time, but that padauk is as red as the day it was born. All you have to do is keep in in the case when you're not playing it! IIXian Guitars
Swineshead pickups in the UK are now selling passives for eight string guitars in case you were interested in an alternative to EMG. http://www.swinesheadpickups.co.uk/8string.shtml
jammy
That's great news! They're top pickups those...
WezV
... and bare knuckle are offering 8 string p-ups as well - the markets looking pretty good for them at the moment. Almost got me tempted to try an
ElysianGuitars
thats awesome mike, i'm close to being back into building, and my first planned build is an 8 string fanned fret.

tim290280
I think this needs to be in the GOM thread! Love the headstock.
Kenny
how do you do your seamless pckup covers aswell as cavity covers?
Xanthus
I'm guessing tiny tiny blades and a very steady hand. Even if I couldn't play them in a million years, those 8-stringers look snazzy!
Bmth Builder
I think it started off thicker than the body, and he veneered some off of the top and back face. Then used those bits (with the grain exactly matching the body) to make the covers in the correct places on the grain.
Bygde
8-stringers isn't really my thing, but this one is amazing! Such a beautiful instrument! Glad you made it a 30" scale as well, I had the "pleasure" do play an Ibanez RG2228 a while ago, and the 27" is not enough, the F# was way too floppy. As someone said earlier, this should be GOTM! Enter with this guitar and see what happens
Bass-Man43
AMAZING build love the whole design. BTW what gauge string are you using for your F#? Bass-Man43
