HuntinDoug Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Yep...made myself a fancy new Semi-Hemispherical fret jig. Ok, maybe it's not so fancy, but it works well. I've been kicking around the idea of using them for a while now. Starting with the Otzi build, I plan on doing all future builds this way. I can do both ends of a fret in about 5 min, and I only use 2 files. I'll do a tutorial when I have some time. Quote
demonx Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 They look pretty fancy! Good work! Quote
avengers63 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I'll do a tutorial when I have some time. MAKE THE TIME!!!!! please Quote
Kammo1 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 That does look damn sexy Doug and very appealing to the eye as well as the fingers. Looking forward to a tut on this. Quote
westhemann Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Have you tried putting the fret into a pencil sharpener? Quote
sdshirtman Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Semi-Hemispherical frets are so damn cool. Make sure you hit the sides of those with some micro mesh before you install em. Its a lot easier than trying to do it once they are in. Quote
Prostheta Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=40290 Already did this Doug! I'd love to see how yours works though as any improvements in consistency are always welcome. Quote
HuntinDoug Posted December 18, 2011 Author Report Posted December 18, 2011 Great tutorial Carl... I missed it, and several other tutorials by not looking in that section. I guess I'll have to look around here more. It looks like your process is similar to mine. I have tried it without the jig with mixed results. The jig really speeds up the process, and for me, seems to make it easier. I will post my process when I have time. Quote
Prostheta Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I'm very much a person for tactile memory, so working repetitively with frets by hand rather than working with them "hands off" with a jig is better for me. Doing it by hand guarantees better results the more you practice. Quote
darkshadow54321 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Just wondering whether you have had time to write a tutorial for the jig? I'm very curious to see exactly how it works... Thanks! Quote
HuntinDoug Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 I've recorded a video...but I'm not happy with it. I'll try to get a new one going when I get back from Cozumel Quote
