Muzz
Great asymmetrical shape and gold finish, I'd much rather play this guitar than a Gibson Les Paul.
hooglebug
i couldnt resist a little mockup
WezV
that is awesome. i am loving 'simpler' finishes at the moment (as if a proper gold top is simpler than a burst !!!)
hooglebug
haha i know! this was my second mix (the first had too much black in it) and it took a few goes to get the spraying right. and any mistakes and you're back to the beginning taking it all off and doing it again! That is one sexy goldtop Don't have much to say, other than I love your builds. Your cherry blossom is one of the things that inspired me to get into lutherie! And update soon! hooglebug
iv been busy with a refinish and making a neck and reshaping a body for someone, but in the next couple of days hopefully i'll start finishing these two
whalehazard
How's that Gotoh wraparound? I'm thinking about using that for my new build(s). It looks slick and seems easy to use. Are the studs installed straight across the centerline?
hooglebug
i like it. and yes, they're straight rather than angled
whalehazard
Cool, that's what I thought. Where did you get yours? The cheapest I've seen is Warmoth.

avengers63
I agree. The blob of cream breaks up the sunburst. The mantra of my art teacher was "variety creates interest.
hooglebug
its so hard to get the gold top looking like it does in real life. its kind of a cross between the two

Prostheta
I agree. The blob of cream breaks up the sunburst. The mantra of my art teacher was "variety creates interest. Empty platitude. The obverse is just as true "simplicity is key".
avengers63
I agree. The blob of cream breaks up the sunburst. The mantra of my art teacher was "variety creates interest. Empty platitude. The obverse is just as true "simplicity is key". In some cases, that's absolutely true. One can over-do it in both cases. We've all seen builds where there was so much going on that it was just over done and disjointed. Likewise, the "all black with black pups, hardware, etc" is so far on the simplicity side that it's boring to look at. Overall, it's a fine line to walk to create a visually interesting piece without over- or under-doing it.
hooglebug
i didnt like the finish of the burst so i redid it, hence it taking so much longer than the goldtop.
Prostheta
Oh wow. Would I be right in thinking that this is the best yet from yourself, Hoogle? My only reservation is the rearmost control....just two would feel a little more balanced to me. Sweet little pickguard....!
