Breandan
Good morning y'all. Been playing around with the idea of building a guitar for quite a few years now and I hope to start this year. What I want to do is a Tuner Model 1 / Brian May Red Special type. The question I have is any advice on an all around, single pickup that will handle most everything from "Nickel Creek to Nickelback." EMG60A bites and artist list sound good but don't know anyone who has used them. thanks!
killemall8
The EMG 60 is not really meant to be used as a single bridge pickup. Its a neck pickup. James hetfield uses it.
avengers63
For a good HB, you can never go wrong with a PAF style. They're about as versatile as you're gonna get.

westhemann
Yeah,an overwound PAF is going to be what you want http://www.guitarfetish.com/Alnico-Fat-Pat-Boutique-Humbucker-Black_c_66.html But with only a bridge pup it is still going to limit you somewhat. Most clean tones are given with a neck pup or a combination
bob123
Tone Zone is a "hotter" PAF style sounding pickup with more bass in my opinion. Another "PAF" type pup is the Dimarzio FRED, its what satch used for about 20 years. Im a dimarzio spam, but Seymour Duncan makes some good PAF style pups too. EMG's are pretty much a one trick pony in all reality.
Juntunen Guitars
A buddy of mine just put a Tesla in his epi les paul, I think it was the VR-60 Classic. I was really impressed with the tones you could get from it.
Breandan
Great info. Thanks everyone. Will definitely look into all those. Hope to stay true to the Model 1 with a neck only PU Edited April 23, 2012 by Breandan
