jessejames
Ribbon sapele body, quilt maple, ziricote neck, quilt maple faceplate from the same maple as the body. Will also have an ebony fretboard. I will be winding my own pickups for this one and making my own oil capacitors.

maull
sorry, not seeing it. Trying to see the patterns but just cannot.
westhemann
I think the angle of the last pic just shows the flame and obscures the underlying ring patterns

jessejames
Here is the latest update, neck is pretty well done, just needs a carve to the back of it and some tuning peg holes drilled and a lot of sanding, cut the neck pocket today too and mocked up the fretboard. Our Souls inc.
That's one wild looking headstock.
jessejames
Not sure if that means you like it or not, but that headstock design has been a "love it or hate it" style. I am actually thinking about redesigning it for future builds.
Our Souls inc.
heck , it don't matter if I like it ( which i do, btw ) so long as you dig it, that's the important part. It's different and looks well executed, what's to not like??
ScottR
That ziricote neck is a bold move from convention. How is it for shaping/carving? It ought to look awesome when finished up. SR
jessejames
It's probably like a mahogany in terms of workability. Only problem I have found is that it is an extreme irritant, if you are sanding this even just a little bit you better have a mask on. I typically don't wear a mask even while bandsawing, but with this stuff, the first time I did that, the second time, I had my mask on. This will make your sinuses go crazy. ScottR
I'll have to bear that in mind. I've got a ziricote carved top coming up in a few months. Does cocobolo affect you the same way? it has a nasty reputation as an irritant, but so far has not given me any problems. SR
jessejames
I've never messed with cocobolo, on future builds I will be using it though and am wary of it's repuatation. I would watch it when you start working with this stuff, I have never read about ziricote being irritated, but it's sure irritated me so far. killemall8
Interesting. I have radiused a few ziricote fretboards and it was not irritating to me at all. But then again, cocobolo doesnt bother me either.
jessejames
Mild update, slotted a board, cut it, glued it to the neck, then used my laser sight to ensure it was all on the centerline, it's dead on. Gotta get one of those long stew mac radius beams and some humbucker kits and I should be done pretty quick after that. I made a 3D model of this in solidworks, I will be getting another CNC soon and production should ramp up after learning the perils of making what's on your computer come to life with the CNC.
