  1. You could get one of those highly metallic looking spray paints that give you a reflective finish (like a gold chrome) on top of PVC or something?
  2. Is it just me, or does that trem cavity seem like it goes reeeally far back away from the end of the locking allen screws?
  3. What exactly is wrong..? I know you said it was too thin, but, what part is too thin? If it's too short across, couldn't you just change your string spacing at the nut?
  4. If you've ever seen the inside of a grand piano, you may notice that the 'non voiced' portion of the strings are all interwoven with ribbon (over and under, back and forth), something that not only deadens their sound, but also (with nice ribbon) could make the appearance more attractive. Of course, this might be harder to do (especially to do nicely, if you constantly change strings) if you have individual string trees or such similar devices.
  5. Sorry bout that- I immediately realized I forgot to include a simple 'no' option after I posted the poll.
  6. I have two different guitars with replacement whammy bars, and both have the same problem: The threading/diameter of the trem arm is just a bit too small, it seems, so that touching/using/moving it causes some unpleasant vibrations (and thus noise) in the bridge. Has anyone found a reliable solution to this problem? I was considering using teflon plumber's tape to wrap the threaded end of the arm with. This would have the advantage of tightening up the fit as well, which would be beneficial as the arm doesn't screw in far enough to fit stiffly (the brass nut in the underside doesn't screw up high enough to stiffen it either). The problem I find with this is that I must take out the arm to fit it into the case, so the TFE tape could constantly come unwrapped. Any suggestions?
  7. EMGs would look nice and clean, but I think exposed humbuckers would fit the look better. Reminds me of some of the real tough, machined looking rims with all the rivets/screws around the tire bead.
  8. I play in my living room, but not because of any special sound quality. I'll have to answer no, but I certainly am aware of certain places (like the showroom, or an old performance theater) that have a pleasant ambiance to them. The concrete halls/walls at school are much less pleasant.
  9. Hahaha, YES YES! I am not the only one!
  10. I hope it's better than the one I had. I hope it's better than the one he had.
  11. Oh sure, but when Jimi burns a guitar it's a part of rock history... ;o
  12. It seems logical, to me, that if you cut the fret slots, then stain the board, then taper it, you'll get the least amount of bleeding problems. You could always cover edge bleed-through with some binding work.
  13. Ahh... Gotcha. You mean the Toto Neorest. http://www.totoneorest.com/home.html HOLY POOPERS!!! That is just icing on the cake. Easily the funniest thing I've seen in a while, considering the tangent this thread is on. The dude in the next cube needed an explanation on why I burst into lysterical laughter. Thanks, Trynity. That made my day. Perhaps you meant a bidet ('be-day') ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidet
  14. I saw the original video this post refers to by doing a backtrace of 'RE''s from this video that I originally found.
  15. Way to be man, way to be. Your Karma has gained 5 points. Your Karma has risen to level 2. You have learned the 'Cosmic Enlightenment' ability.
  16. Agreed on the difficulty of getting a solid veneered looking with a curvy top. I imagine a burst finish would help you in your goal, as you wouldn't have to veneer the entire top, cutting down the curve. Also, I this is kind of 1 in 1,000,000 sort of thing, but did that happen to come from Holland Guitars?
  17. Well, gosh, can't you just flip it over? I wonder about a lot of eBay hardware, like entire brand new FR systems from Hong Kong for $40+S&H.
  18. You can actually just google many simple equations. Type '1/16 inches in inches' into a google search field, and it'll convert to decimal for you. Same goes for things like '178mm in in' or '7mph in kph'. What I find to be quite useful is Firefox's Google search toolbar add-on, as it will calculate/pre-fetch as you type, so that you never have to leave the page you're viewing (it will display your resulting answer in a small drop box). Not sure if IE's google search add-on has the same functionality or not.
  19. If you can't do professional quality work, don't charge anything until you are able to. : ) Then when you're able to, charge pro rates and knock off half the price for your friends. I do a number of odd jobs for people, and I find that if you really can't bring yourself (that is, I can't bring myself) to come up with a dollar figure to start with, just figure the time by an unskilled laborer's wage. That's not to say you or I, or anyone else, is unskilled, but more-so saying "well, I guess I should be making at least this much" - It's at least what you'd be making flipping burgers. Fretjob takes two hours? 2 * $7.15 (Michigan Minimum Wage) = $14.30. If that method doesn't work for you then man up and grab some cash for yourself!
  20. The P-90 Tele gets big points for just looking so i-want-to-eat-it delicious, even if maybe lacking a little novelty. The Flying-V Supreme is a close second for the same reason. I almost regret not voting for The Ouroboros because of the unique look, but ultimately I guess I just can't find the body style pleasing. Headless was never my taste either - But still, very tough decision between these three entries for me!
  21. Can anyone comment on the accuracy/effectiveness of this? I've seen plenty of copper tape for sale to shield guitar cavities with, but I've never heard of aluminum shielding tape. If so, wouldn't this ultimately be the same as high heat foil flue tape for ductwork that you could get for cheap (compared to copper tape) at any decent hardware store?
  22. I really dig the crazy looking grain/oil/water patterns all over the backside. : ) The front looks a little bit more like a finishing wreck of some, but the back is pretty sweet.
  23. Imagine the market something like that could create if it really took off (or something similar, like the Birdfish, even). Six strings, six sound chambers, varying sizes for each chamber, varying materials for each size, lather and repeat for each independant bridge and you have more customization options than a lv75 Dark Elf from World of Warcraft. Let's not forget the box you'll need to carry around your extra components in! : ) A neat concept!
  24. Looking good man! I like the color combo. I think I prefer the look of a screwed-on pickguard, but there's plenty of things you can do with tension clips to rig up a screwless look.
