  1. I must have missed this the other day- well done on the string ferrules CJ- really nice work there.
  2. I bought that quilt close to 20 years ago now. I bought it specifically due to the quilt pattern- as it matches Jerry Garcia's Wolf guitar- and at one point I probably had a hair in my back end about building a copy. It sits in the bottom self of one of my wood shelves- waiting patiently. So- I started thinking I wanted an upper horn on this like an old Maton MS series, but it didnt look right on this body- so- I ended up opting for this- but then I thought to myself- I have seen this guitar before. Yeah- duh- look familiar? An old Teisco GS-64. My upper horn is a little fatter like the Maton- but more forward like a fender. So- not sure if this has any originality to it- but its what I want.
  3. tucked away on a bottom shelf, some nice old swietenia macrophylla and some quilt maple I almost forgot I had.
  4. So- i have wanted to do this for a while. I have other projects I need to finish- but this one for whatever reason has the fire under my arse at the moment so its getting my attention. I have wanted a jazzmaster, but I never really dug the upper horn on them. In the last couple of years I have noticed a lot of various players with Fano JM type guitars-and thus the itch was started with me. I want to build mine out of all mahogany though., Start with some plans: what to do about that horn I am not so fond of- trying some options- still not liking any of them this will get a headstock like the old Teisco guitars- I love those crazy things-
  5. Dude-cool ass video- nice job. +1 on the underwater shots. couple things- 1)- I am jealous of your hair. Cause I have little left 2)- digging your Imperial March metal style video- did you build that fretted/fretless guitar by chance. VERY COOL. 3)- the quality of video you have produced on those music videos is worth a shout out. Very good quality video - very nice job man- seriously.
  6. diggin that little side dot template do dad you got there. Very cool. simple yet effective.
  7. really impressive work @MassimoPL77. You obviously love inlay- I can't even imagine cutting that much pearl. Well done and it looks incredible.
  8. now there is something you dont see everyday -a buckeye burl V. wow. Hey- the 80's called- they said they wished that had that freaking outrageous blue. holy cow man. That is sick!!
  9. I keep getting mixed up on this- so- the other guitar is getting the snakewood fingerboard right? Is this the figured ebony one then? Looking good-did the figure stay any or did it sand out a bit? . are you going to flood/fill that top with something or leave it be and "breath". i think you said this was a bit swiss cheese or maybe it was the other top. I have some wood like this- and wondering what I will fill with. watching with interest
  10. ditto onthe shout out for the old school truss rod- i havent tried that myself-opting out for the easy button straight rods hows that tele (thread hijack ) coming?
  11. getting close, sanded out and re-oil the headstock repair with TeakOil, let it sit a week and waxed it up Friday- buffed out today. I never mentioned on this but I ended up not putting a control cavity on this one- I put the battery wrapped in foam in a tight pocket under the bridge and used just a little hide glue to keep the bridge in place. of course I forgot to take a pic until I had the bridge glued on. Only thing that will suck is once the battery dies I will have to take off strings, knock that bridge off and repeat. So I have two screw holes drilled in the back of this, for no reason. they are now officially "sound holes".
  12. $40!!!!??? what a deal. Even if that was craft quality lumber- wow. I dont even want to mention what that would cost me here in Georgia.
  13. yes- it and the other,,,.........seven projects I had started and put on hold all this time. They are all patiently waiting their turns.
  14. she never gets the gecko. But some of the attempts have been hilarious. 2.5 years didnt count cause I took a vacation
  15. so- this one has been sitting out in the garage for a bit- it was too hot out there to work, but I left this out there "bleeding" the oil from that heel. Then one day Pearl the wonder dog, was being let out by my wife to do her business on a leash, and said wonder dog spotted a lizard- or gecko- -whatever they are. The little 3-6 inch things. Now-Pearl's favorite activity in the world is hunting lizards. So- when she spotted this one on the garage floor- she went for it. long story short the bass took a nice tumble from workbench (it was on a flip up extension on one of my benches)- to the floor, and split the headstock along the grain in two places and a nice dent in the tip and side of the headstock. Luckily- it landed on the headstock- and the body ended up on a piece of patio furniture (we had to bring in all our deck and underdeck furniture due to IRMA into the garage (I am getting a new roof by the way- woot) So- it sat, and sat and I finally dealt with it. here is the result. Sorry about the lousy phone pic- my dslr is currently touring Canada with a relative who asked to borrow it. can you tell where the splits were? I sanded it reasonably back to "shape" its a bit off I know- but- considering it had two splits going towards that top tuner hole. I say I got lucky. This is a beater anyway made from homedepot wood- but still-- that sort of sucked, and at this point in my life- I would prefer to avoid guitar repair during guitar building (especially during guitar finishing. i just dont have a ton of free time to deal with repairs. Such is building I guess for a hack like me. So lets see- this has had a snapped truss rod repair, steamed out dents in the front, split the headstock, and repaired, and I still havent strung it up yet. Some things are cursed.
  16. you know when someone says "hold me back" they get pushed into the middle of whatever it was they didnt want to get into. I think that would look absolutely killer. I am not a big fan of carbon fiber on guitars- but your design, style and execution on this so far has been excellent. Well done man. Keep it up.
  17. awesome- love the box ramp too
  18. Ok- I will bite. So what happened?
  19. that fretboard is sweet. It reminds me of a sunset in the desert. that darkish part is the horizon, the light part below it the landscape and the schwiggly lines above it stratus clouds. YMMV.
