  1. loving the lp builds lately. cant wait to see the finish on this guy
  2. omg this looks amazing I want to make my dad a 54 gibson LP deluxe replica for christmas (was his very first guitar and he misses it). And this build gives me ALL kinds of inspiration
  3. Crow! Your Secret is finally mine! haha j/k But YES!! I've always wondered how you got such beautiful knob coves like this. The Cove bit style just never looked right to me. Thanks a bunch This work looks AMAZING. How did you get that black charcoal look? I've tried dying black, sanding back and redying and the best I could get was this Which is fine I've always wanted this color. but your darker color just looks awesome.
  4. Wait so the second back didn't get a carve? This work is outstanding btw! The wedge fretboard is amazing! Looks like a zebra style ebony. I got to try this next time.
  5. this build looks so awesome. I've been watching a lot of builds and this is definitely one I cant wait to see done
  6. I always loved not filling the pores with grain filler. it always looks so bad ass and natural. I'm pretty sure im wrong but wouldnt this allow the guitar to age and breath also once the finish shrinks a bit?
  7. I like how you did that recess instead of just routing the shape of the bridge. it adds a cool unique-ness to it
  8. Thanks a ton for the info Perry. I'll just nitro this build. Ill 2 part the next. I love your work so I know to trust your words. Thanks everyone
  9. Haha for sure, im looking forward to progress shots
  10. finally finished my previous build thread after FOREVER haha New thread has started here. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=46605

  11. o.0! Wow man that means a lot to me :-P Thanks a ton man I just started the next build thread if you want to check it out
  12. started the back carves Stained the top DARK black, sanded back and stained it light black for this Sealed it Top looks amazing! (I've always wanted this charcoal color) And here she sits next to her sister (the previous build I just updated) Waiting on truss rod and fretboard to start the neck. (should come in by Friday at the latest). Then comes fretting and Neck shaping and such, After all that I will route the body for a snug neck fit and what not. Thanks for looking!
  13. So after buying this stuff up. (enough alder for 4 bodys, mahogany for 2 bodies. and mahogany for 6 necks.) I started new finalized templates I forgot to take pics of the body clamping, rough cut, route to template, etc. I routed here to start the carve I just use a straight chisel and a hammer to do the chunky work. It later turns to this (after lots of sanding)
  14. So here she was first put together and hung up after buff and the pics above. Here she is in her current state. Her gloss looks GREAT its not cloudy at all. That's just the sky. the black has gotten a bit beat up at some shows I've played :-P And there she is Thanks guys! I thought about putting it in july for gotm but i dont think i can compete with you guys yet :-P Maybe the next build. Its coming along so nicely
  15. Haha man I feel stupid sometimes not thinking of stuff like this.... :-P But to further backup my question, I haven't went and bought the acrylic Urethane yet. I have it waiting in an online order. I was just about to hit 'confirm order' when I looked to the right and saw that I had put Deft on the guitar body as a sealer. So that is when I researched and then asked here. Hope this clears things up. But also thank you for giving me some input. I just might order it and try it anyway, I could use the stuff on the next build or something.
  16. I believe this was first level and semi buff after a day or two. (As a test) leveled frets before final buff This is where I stopped taking pics cause I forgot. Next post will have the shots of its current status and it all completed and put together Sorry for taking forever :-P
  17. Anyway, damn its been a journey. I finally got an internet source at the new apartment and have got this all done. I started a new build but I didnt want to start posting a new thread until this one is done. It only feels right to finish this first. Made a Smoked Plexy electronics cover. Painted a headstock design thing (The black part has become my new headstock design.) Painted the neck black too Glued the neck in. Shes a guitar! At the time this was a worry. I later found out I can just sand it down and add coats until its smooth. Sanding it down over and over gives it a very thin nice black finish also. Is there a way to prevent this? I sprayed so carefully/slow and everything. Added the first sealer/clear coat I warm the clear up, just a pic more coats, This pic shows the Golden oak stain that shines through I was talking about, that beautiful yellow that comes through I just love! even more coats
  18. This is a great inlay Idea. Could I use this for my builds?
  19. This helps so much! I just got some mahogany that wasn't wide enough. For some reason I just didn't think I could glue it up like this. (you know not having a "perfect center line"). Thanks for this. I'm looking forward to this build
  20. Dang, I need to find my other build pics and finish my last thread before I start my new one :-P

  21. This is looking great! I start the carve top with the same router bit. I was wondering though. Is there a reason you don't use the router bit on the inside of the horns? Do you carve those by hand?
  22. I am stealing this idea. Sorry... you are not getting any royalties but I will have an "Amber Fire" finish this year. That is sick. +1 for me. This top finish is amazing haha I will give credit it and call it the SR stain job :-P Anyway, I'm happy to see that its getting a gloss top. This is one of the threads i keep watching closely Great work!
  23. Anyone? I think I might just nitro this one again. :-P
