  1. i got those knobs but felt that the pearl tops looked kind of cheesy... do this, but with the material
  2. i think the animals are sweet. it's going to be tricky getting that finish off without damaging the carvings tho
  3. i love the ZR bridge in my s470. great innovation. i don't know why they're not more widespread
  4. oh, i think the wenge cover looks great. it matches the neck, and sort of ties the look together
  5. ugh. cutting plexi glass/ acrylic etc. is the biggest pain in the butt ever. two words: laser cutter
  6. hot guitar. love the lathe work. the end result pictures are too dark, though, any chance for brighter ones?
  7. I get a really good feeling from those pickup covers..
  8. pro tip: the coolest button to use as a killswitch is the happ arcade button. http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/601200xx.htm
  9. ever seen a strobe tuner? awesome, awesome invention. it's just a pair of LEDs that strobe at the fundamental frequency of whichever string you're trying to tune
  10. i'd just add to this that people looking for a starting point in tube amp construction would do well to check out the 18 watt site- http://18watt.com/ there's a lot of good info there and a very active forum with people that are a lot of help. 18-watters are a simple project that gives an awesome result. i don't think you need a kit. sourcing parts yourself is cheaper and it feels more like 'your' amp. way more fun
  11. hmmm i will have to check into that hammond transformers can handle way more power than they're rated for. 1650F is the right transformer for the job.
  12. i play [my sweet personally made] bass in Dostoevsky's Pistols. We're a gypsy punk band like Gogol Bordello. lots of crowd participation and whatnot. (that's me ) Our album is available free: Notes From the Underground it's mixed with too much bass, so be careful listening to it in the car (sounds sweet with most headphones, tho)
  13. jealous, brother. i started working on mine again. got some work done on the top and neck (scarfjoint and stuff) also, longbaords are going strong. i bought trucks today and i have a couple boards ready to go
  14. hahahaa. sweet jam. if you weren't from... Lowestoft, UK, i would be requesting to be in on that. looks like you're having a lot of fun. as for the guitar... cool stuff, man. i think that's one of the only instruments that i can picture looking good with an eq there, but it works. sounds cool, too, but a lot of that is probably from your effects also, really, really cool graphic.
  15. i'm not talking debate like, political debate... i mean like, talking and debating about guitar-building-related topics like if it's cool to use a company's logo on a build or more importantly, the rules that this community works under. and i don't really know what you're talking about, Prostheta, with the dinosaurs. i was in a dinosaur-themed metal band last semester. it was really killer. we painted our guitars with all these sweet dinosaurs. and i made a boost-fuzz pedal that i painted with dinosaurs on it too. and we made meteors out of huge 42-inch beach balls and threw them into the audience during one of our songs. so much fun.
  16. don't the mods usually make you not have a bunch of pictues in one post? i don't have a problem with it. i rather like being able to see a lot of progress/information/steamy guitar porn all at once. but they tend to do that. i'm suprised it's lasted long enough for three pages of replies to be posted.
  17. why was the thread about logos locked? i thought it sounded like an interesting and important debate. nobody was fighting and i think a lot of good points were made... i also remember being upset when somebody's thread was locked who asked what people thought about changing the picture posting rules... i feel like this sort of debate is a really valuable thing for any community and should not be locked by a moderator without more reason. but then again, maybe i'm missing something huge? edit: yeah, okay, so i saw the thread in solidbody that's the same thing. and i still feel sort of silly now. but still
  18. i brushed it once. it came out okay. to be fair, i didn't really spend a lot of time on the finishing process on that guitar, and it sort of shows. i think you'll be alright as long as you pay careful attention to how even it's going on and you do a good job with level sanding and everything.
  19. hahaha... 7 string guitar... i have trouble playing five string basses...
  20. thanks, fellas! i'm just starting a semi hollow 7-string now... i feel so empty without a project to work on
  21. okay! so i finally got around to taking some picturess. http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/b.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/c.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/d.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/e.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/f.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/g.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/h.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/i.jpg http://www.rpi.edu/~miglij2/Site/Photos_files/j.jpg lemme know what you think! (the back plate will be aluminum... haven't gotten around to that yet... and the truss rod cover will match the neck/headstock woods with a bass clef inlay... haven't finished that one either)
  22. i shaped the neck after the wings were glued on because i figured i'd like to shape the heel into the horns to some extent and it would be easier to do that way. the finish is ktm-9 which is a water-based laquer that lmii sells. it sprayed well and i'm happy with the result, but i'll probably opt for the stewmac stuff next time because it's less than half the price.
