  1. firstly, i'd buy a dc jack that you know fits in with what you need (ie. one with 3 pins) because, as you figured out, one of the pins is to disconnect the battery when a cable is inserted. secondly - i believe the main reason for using point-to-point on perfboard is that making a layout for stripboard can be quite troublesome, so doing it point-to-point virtually eliminates any layout problems. thirdly - you might get away with soldering the IC directly to the board, but you won't be too happy if you do fry it...they're not really a pleasure to remove. so again, find an IC socket that will actually work. fourthly - personally i'd make my life easier with this one, and just buy some 3pdt switches (although good luck finding them in the UK - diystompboxes.com or smallbearelec.com are the best to get them from though) anywho, enough rambling. Dan.

    Wax?

the wax in the pickups? this is to stop any vibration which cause microphonic feedback.
  3. more info on Mr Auerbach: - © guitar player magazine and some random snippets: -In a technique similar to many earlier bluesmen, Auerbach often uses an index finger fingerpick along with his thumb to play chords. Equipment Fender Jerry Donahue Telecaster w/ DiMarzio twin-blade humbuckers & .011, .015, .020, .030, .039, .049 gauge strings Ampeg B12XT 2x12 combo amp Fuzz pedal(s) Also Silvertone and Teisco Del Ray guitars
  4. thats a cool idea, its better than having a 17ft long pedalboard at least i'm assuming there is space under the raised bits? why not stick some superbright LEDs in the space so you can have lighting?
  5. Dan Auerbach uses an Electro Harmonix Screaming Tree treble booster as well as a big muff...theres some more stuff, but afaik thats the basis of his sound. As for the kills...god only knows - if i could get the same tone used in "the search for cherry red" i could die happy

  7. may sound stupid, but have you tried it with another lead? you'll be kicking yourself if you find out it is after re-wiring it all
  8. if you're 110% certain that its not a problem with the solder joints themselves, then my second guess would be to check for any shorts/stray wires touching other parts etc. that is, after you've quadruple-checked the joints
  9. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album18 vero board layouts, quite a few simple ones too.
  10. do you mean BDSM pickups? as seen in a few BC Rich guitars?
  11. i'll be honest, im not too sure of how permanent it will be. considering i was told absolutely ages ago that the top would wear off - as it was all done with a non permanent pen - thats not covered. however, it looks pretty for the time being, so im not too fussed
  12. forgot to update you guys, i doubt its going to be permanent, but i dont really mind - its a welcome new thing to my beat up guitar that has been lovlingly named ''the bible guitar'' http://www.thehappytent.com/guitrev.jpg
  13. Re: pickup choice, could you not use two pickups offset from each other? at least then you wouldn't have to comprimise string spacing.
  14. i always thought it was possible to add a coil tap to a two wire pickup, but it involved taking the tape off and soldering an extra wire in? im pretty sure it's been talked about on this forum, so search and ye shall find.
  15. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...opic=20077&st=0 not sure why its still on the tut page to be honest
  16. i would use transparency/decals/etc but this is not going to be varnished over. thanks anyway
  17. i just wanted to run something past you guys before i go killing my baby is it feasible to use laser printer transfer paper [press n peel blue] to transfer an image onto unfinished wood? this would require using a hot iron, would you expect this to damage the wood in any way? stupid question, i know...but hey ho. Cheers, Dan.

  19. i use avant. tabbed, popup blocker, shortcut keys.
  20. i just stick my wah in a position, leave it there, and let the good times roll. failing that, i stand on my boss feedbacker-distortion
  21. i *think* [its always tough when drak is concerned] the point that these guys are trying to point out to you is this: you will be paying a large sum of money, to basically watch a guy build your guitar for you as its yours first and you will essentially be lost. they don't do it to be mean to the newbs, they do it because they're right.
  22. google + bartolini = http://www.bartolini.net/ then on that page is this: http://www.bartolini.net/salesinfo.htm
  23. i did indeedy use ferric chloride...for about 10 seconds [i learnt the hard way on my first box not to leave it in there until there is fizzy stuff everywhere ] and i used press n peel blue for the etch resist...works like a dream and comes off with nail varnish remover.
  24. ToneBender Clone: The case without anything in it....this was the first time i etched a box, i likes it full pic: http://www.thehappytent.com/bender.jpg this thing sounds MEAN, i love it. 3 germanium transistors, true bypass, two knobs and an LED....what more could a boy want?
