  1. right on. the euc is actually a hair thicker than 1.5" so should be able to get two .75" pieces for a nice deep top like you said. the sisoo is right at 1.5" and a bit thin for a body, i know... but would work for an sg or sabre or other really thin body. doesn't look like much unfinished, but is super pretty once it is finished up. the light wood areas kind of look like white mahogany. super short grain everywhere.
  2. just slabs. 1.5" thick. for the sissoo... def going to have to make a thin body out of that... the eucalyptus... i dunno... perhaps resaw for a top? would love to use for a neck but will have to leave it sit for a long time to see if it's done drying.
  3. well it would depend on what you mean by blank. if you are talking about one of those paddle headstocks... then the dimensions of the neck might be diff (nut width, heel width) but there's no reason I can see why you wouldn't be able to do a 4x2 setup on that blank. if we are talking about a literal blank ie just a chunk of wood... then it is even less of an issue. you may go look at electricherald where they have both a design doc for a mm axis style and numerous fender styles. I am not aware of a difference in depth on either... but it wouldn't really matter. I just built a neck out of a 4/4 stock that has more than the typical fender depth (by a light 1/8") and there may be slightly more tension but other than that it doesn't make much of a dif. Since the tuning pegs are closer to the nut(on 4x2) there is going to be a sharper transition anyway... but it's a pretty small difference. I don't think you'd want to go too far beyond that(1/8 more) as the grain of the original wood will run out and in theory that weakens the transition. long story long... it'll be fine.
  4. +1 on timber. I have that sm bridge for a build I started but got sidetracked... the 5 string version. is a really nice bridge from what I can see. will look very sharp.
  5. well, then you put a shim in which angles the neck and brings it closer to the strings. you can buy one from stew mac or you can put any number of things in the pocket to raise up the heel end of the neck.
  6. visited a local live edge place... they get all their wood from locally harvested trees... eucalyptus the ever evasive "sissou"
  7. right on - there it is. i figured with the big open control cavity... cool.
  8. basswood and sycamore... so pretty and light. right on. that's a sick piece of sicamore (see what i did there). I'm not sure how the mustang part applies here? going for it on the neck - noice. good for you. you go!
  9. he said "nurbs" lol (I don't have anything intelligent to say so... all I can add is humor as usual)
  10. nicely done... A. i like your strat. also, thanks for giving us bob and doug btw (strange brew).
  11. i know you aren't asking for my advice or anything and no trip to hollywood here but my honest impression is that if you don't do a pearloid pickguard, pearloid binding and white pickup covers I may never speak to you again... then again you would probably want that so... on second thought if you don't do that I will speak to you more. I like where this is going. afa radius and sanding away the inlay... I always worry about that too. one compromise might be just running the inlay router right on the radius. do a first pass to get the edges straight and then a slightly lower pass where u try to keep the router at an angle that is somewhere around the median angle there... so the inlay goes in angled. if you really wanted to get cute you could setup a mini router sled for your router and make it angled then mount your fretboard and use it to keep you angled. Either way I would do the radius first so you can see approx where you are at. just a thought.
  12. right on. it's interesting to think that there really is only one guitar fx... they are all delays on some level. reverb is just a cascade of many very short delays... chorus is just a modulated delay... flange is just a very short delay oscillating... yet they all sound so different.
  13. right on. i suspect there is similar stuff in guitar polish. the stuff I use also smells nice so... hard to ween off of it!!
  14. no prob on the derail. always encouraged. signal diodes... well those are more for clipping, perhaps you know this but i was referring to ge transistors. afa I know there aren't any straight fuzzes that would employ (ge diodes) other than a big muff... which is another fav of mine... but a whole dif animal from a fuzz face/tonebender. pladask draume - if I had to guess... sounds like an analog delay and an analog flanger with some mods. v nice. I did my own version of a ce2 that I modded out with some vibe options that could get violent... flange side reminds me a bit of that. Nothing quite like expensive chips. I've got a few real mn3005/7 for when I get the itch. in fact u r kind of making me itch with that video... but talk about another time pit!
  15. yup, that was pretty much my experience too. initially tried just simple flashing leds and it was horrible. then ended up using a ramping circuit plus attenuation to get it to be fairly quiet. afa the fuzz circuit... almost cant go wrong with some good germanium. was using those russian mp40 in the diy community long before dunlop and the bonamassa fuzz caught on to them. at the time bought a whole bag of them and sifted through for optimal gain... it's a fine line between fuzz bliss and motor-boating oscillations! also had a mid boost based on the schematic from some fulltone fuzz that I spliced into the circuit along with some roger mayer alterations... and an external bias control. That's about it. I'm a big fan of fuzz but admittedly haven't played with it in a while... I'm on a digital vein with my axefx at the moment.
  16. well that's very kind of you to say! been a while since I built a pedal... someday the 'south' will rise again. that one was basically a modded out germanium fuzz face. the flashing lights we trouble as had to work really hard to make my own slow flash circuit so that they wouldn't make an audible pulse. good times!
  17. note to self... wax? always just used guitar polish which I suspect has some wax... but I think your wax >= my wax. lovely as always.
  18. https://youtu.be/zA_A4x0QCBM yup, it's in this post editor box it doesn't trigger relevant "on enter" event.
  19. bedroom builders... sounds like a club I'd like to join. tech I'm a garage/office builder but I'll assume your membership requirements are flexible. looks like a lot of fun in the making. immediately I'm thinking draw out the shape, do a straigh cut outside the shape using a straight edge to get a glue surface for the donor, cut a straight line for the horn... rough cut out the donor patch and glue on. sure a lot easier working in a straight edge on a large piece than fiddling with it once it's a small cutoff. small pieces are always were I get into trouble anyway. rawk on.
  20. https://youtu.be/zA_A4x0QCBM so here is another test. just uploaded and even in preview doesn't show vid. I guess we'll see if after an hour it shows up. this is a very poorly shot vid of my cavity covers. really worked for these as the heigh of my cavity was down to the mm to get a 4p5t and push pull to fit. They also had to match the back contour... so had to approximate the sm radius on a smaller scale. They are so thin and delicate... kept burning through while milling or finish sanding and struggled to get the height just right. https://youtu.be/zA_A4x0QCBM edit: odd - now sm link works. it is identical link too (just above here)... odd. one above still not working. so it would seem the on enter event that is triggered was dif in an initial post. perhaps next time just post w/o it and immediately edit to embed video.
