  1. Yeah...some of you will hate me. Others will envy. Others won't read this thread. Here. But I have a few potential candidates for it: An alder sunburst StewMac tele (soon to be routed for humbucker) or my black Schecter C-1 ELite (mahogany). Whichever doesn't get the Dime gets the JB. I'll let you know which I think is better suited for it...and if I don't like it no matter how much I respect Dime, I'll post it here for sale before I try ebay for the same amount ($40 + s/h). SO being that everyone's talked about it...what have you heard in terms of tone? The Duncan site doesn't have squat for tone charts or sound description.
  2. oh...I knew that...I was just, uh, testing you...yeah, that's it... Ok well they got this version too
  3. Yep...I'm in the market for an oscillatin sander and now a planer...I'll swing down to Home Depot and check them out. The sale doesn't surprise me as it's a retail business' tactic to put items on sale for holidays or blow them out at the end of the year--plus they were $89 during fathers day. Read: buy a car stereo (etc.) between Dec 30 and Jan1. Dropped $100 for my sale, dropped another $50 during those dates.
  4. Carver Doug...cool-ass art....I thought this was the guy who did a custom satriani looking guitar for Steve Vai. Apparently it was Stephen McSwain. Great art regardless.
  5. fyi funkle is refering to this page. Also Carvin makes passive pickups and then connects them to an active system. Check their webpage. Otherwise Seymour Duncan will custom make a pickup for you (I think for $125)--just specifiy a Livewire Screamin Demon.
  6. Actually I always liked the look of them. I first saw them on the Tobias basses (before Gibson bought them) and thought it was cool. Then Carvin did it on their models, and I just started liking them more. I don't mind scarf joints, althought I don't like the one on my ibanez because the headstock is plain maple, and the neck is curly maple. Jeez...couldn't they have used the same piece of wood?
  7. I'd go withe the #2 Chrome/rosewood. I'd go with amber barrel knobs, or if you are doing white (or ?) pickups, you could match the knobs to the pickup color.
  8. I haven't broke 30 yet, so like wes...who? Eric is really the only one I listen to, but it's post Derek & the Dominos and Yardbirds.
  9. Was the body originally the Wartribe V model and someone painted it pink, or is this a knock off that you are customizing to look like it? Also if you are on a budget, you might as well start with this.
  10. From now on I'll know that I'm under dressed if I'm not wearing this.
  11. Very true...I do the same, although I watch items for a while. But Schecter isn't a sought after guitar company on Ebay. Hence why they fall under "other". So we'll see how much it goes for.
  12. I can't even tell what that is...just a plain Ibanez?
  13. $900 is a bit rich for my blood, but I guess compared to the retail price of $2999 it is. Too bad it doesn't look like Jeff's actual guitar. I thought I saw one where ESP replicated all his stickers, but I might be wrong.
  14. I dunno about the weakening part cuz look here...see how small the heel looks to a standard Fender-type. I don't recall the joint being any bigger on the bodies I've seen. I think you should be ok (but this is coming from a guy who asked you for help )
  15. Here If this remains this cheap ($2 w/ 4days left) I'll buy it for the hell of it.
  16. This company came up in another thread about an overpriced Iceman clone. Anyway they are back up here.
  17. That was entertaining. Learning guitar when i was teenager I used to spend hours playing and going to guitar stores, watching videos etc. I wonder what this guy did...go to bike stores?
  18. I agree...Wes had some good stuff earlier, but some of the latter stuff got a little Christmas-y if you know what I mean. If you're interested check out Latin Bit by Grant Green (or anything by Grant Green) or The Swinging Guitar Of Tal Farlow by Tal Farlow. I don't have anythign else by him, but I like this one.
  19. Theres a store called Guitar Trader here in San Diego and I saw one of the Mike Mushok models in their store a few weeks ago. They also act as a online store and ship stuff out daily. If anyone is interested go to the site and call them up. I know a lot of the guys there and they are pretty cool (ask for Gabe or Lauren) plus they compete with Guitar Center so the prices should be comparable. I dunno if they have a return policy if you don't like it tho.
  20. Oscillating spindle sander, router and now a planer. In regards to the Line 6 4-button...trust me...go find a cheap/used full size. The four button doesn't allow you to bank or select the tuner. I bought mine new and granted it was expensive, but I'm happier that I returned the 4 button for it. Or if you are midi guru, you can buy the Behringer midi controller for $125 and program that to control it thru midi.
  21. hey thanks Dave, your insight is greatly appreciated. I'll probably end up getting the tools/spools after the holidays. The body is gonna be a flat top, and likely I'll have to plane off 1/8" since I'll be using a aftermarket neck (building guitar first, then later a neck). Also I did some research to my other questions/concerns and I thought you might wanna know for any of the readers... Stew Mac and Warmoth sell Thinline Teles that has a top routed control area, so this is not a problem. 1/8" = .125. Stew mac spruce/cedar soundboards have thicknesses of .125-.130. If an acoustic can handle it, so can an electric. Altho Warmoth uses 1/4" for their thinlines.
  22. Wilkinson made their trem's for Carvin a while ago where the trem would lock into a hardtail when the bar was perpendicular to the strings (facing the floor) and would unlock when used paralell. But I haven't seen any mention of the unit on Carvins recent trems.
  23. It's too bad you didn't do like a Ritchie blackmore-esque pickguard (neck/bridge singles) cuz then you could see Elvis's other eye. How are the schaller pickups? I've always stuck to the name-brand aftermarket pickups (Duncan, EMG, Dimarzio)...
  24. I agree...much props to LGM. I joined this thread way too late...oh well at least I got in on the Roli/Relic one... I personally thought the core wood made the tone, not the (really thin) laminate tops. Hence the reason Warmoth did this. If snork is still around...why don't you just put a monkey grip on a carved top strat? Wouldn't that be easier to create? And for the acryllic, what about the stuff they use for acoustic guitars...that might be easer to bend--$13 bucks at Stew Mac for a 8x14.5x.018 sheet.
