  1. Looks great! The nut looks a little wide for my tastes, and the knob layout seems a bit close to the edge of the body, but otherwise this looks like an awesome guitar! Any more pics of it, especially the sides and back? I like to see the contrast in the colored top/natural core. Also, if you've been building for 17 years, then you've got a lot of other stuff to show us as well. Can't wait to see more of your work, and welcome to the forum.
  2. Looks pretty nice! I think the bridge looks cool with the design and the colors offset nicely. Any more pics of the sides/back?
  3. Looks great! That is a hand rubbed burst? If so, that proves that you don't need fancy spray equipment in order to make an awesome burst. What wood is the back of the body and the neck? I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of the whole thing. Again, great work!
  4. Just to be fair, he shouldn't be blamed for mistakes just because he works faster than everybody else. He already stated that he spends a lot of time planning, so these aren't just random unnecessary mistakes. Killemall, you do have skills, don't be so discouraged. Everyone makes mistakes....I'm not halfway done with my guitar yet, and I've already made plenty of mistakes. Just cheer up and have fun like everyone else says. Just an idea.....perhaps you could take a short break from guitars and work on other projects (I dunno, furniture or something for example). You could do less critical projects that would still build your woodworking skills, that way when you build your next guitar, you will feel more confident. I don't know if that helps any....just trying to help. Believe it or not, you have been a help to people on this forum. Have a nice day!
  5. +1, I can't see the guitar through all that glare! Just kidding, the finish is really great, you've really taken your time on this. I love all the details on the neck, the laminations, the binding, everything looks flawless. I really like this guitar (and not just because it's a PRS shape, or has figured maple) because of the quality. You should be proud!
  6. I've never been a real fan of Rics, but I have to admit, watching the progress on this has changed my mind. It looks great, congrats!
  7. +1 That inlay is cool! How did you come up with the design? Can't wait to see this finished.
  8. Oh, thanks for explaining. A double binding type of thing. Looks cool.
  9. Looks great! How did you do that thin strip along the fingerboard? It doesn't look like separate binding, just enough accent to add some flair. Have fun playing that!
  10. You've been working a lot lately! I can't wait to see this one come along, since your other stuff looks so great. I really like the body design...it looks slightly familiar, where did you get the inspiration from?
  11. Electric: PRS doublecut, Gibson Explorer Acoustic: Grand Auditorium Bass: Warrior Signature bass, Warmoth Gecko, Ibanez Soundgear Just some of my faves...I know, I'm bad at narrowing it down.
  12. That switch looks like candy corn! This project is really great, I can't wait to see it done, this is inspirational work with a lot of unique features.
  13. Nice! Looks pretty cool, and that body shape with the contours actually looks really comfy to play. Also, what is that instrument on the top in that last picture? The alternating wood inlays looks cool.
  14. Looks great! It's very classy, with the abalone strip and variation on the f-hole. Have any in progress shots?
  15. Carefully, by hand. For the project I'm working on I just carefully laid a piece of fret wire into a slot and then bent it slowly to conform to the shape. It is not as fast as using one of those fancy wire bending tools, but it should work ok. If an experienced person like me could do it, I'm sure you can handle it. You've done several necks now, how have you done it before? Are you just wanting to try something new with pre-cut frets?
  16. +1 on that. I have a list of dream basses that I'd like to build some time. And definitely check out the Luthier's Corner on TalkBass, there is a lot of information over there, and plenty of great looking basses.
  17. I recently registered at the OLF so I could learn more about acoustics. I created an account, but for some reason whenever I log in, it automatically logs me out within a few seconds. Anybody else have this problem, or know how to fix it?
  18. Beautiful guitar and superb craftsmanship! Something to aspire to.
  19. Looks good so far! We need more acoustics around here. Can't wait to see the rest of the pics.
  20. Looks good! I like the canarywood fingerboard, does it require a finish like maple does? I'm glad you liked the gfs pickups because I am planning on using them for my project too. Do they sound good clean (non-distortion, acoustic type stuff I guess)? Any plans for the next build?
  21. I don't believe padauk requires a finish. On the Warmoth woods list, it says they don't use a finish on their padauk necks. It does have open pores, however that affects your decision. I used some padauk for a non-guitar project recently, and put a few coats of tru-oil on it, and it turned a lovely dark red. I'd say that the choice is up to you.
  22. Ahhh! I clicked on the link, and the picture scared me a little. That is one weird looking piece of wood.
  23. Thanks, Kenneth. I believe that the carve depth of the singlecuts is the same as the doublecuts, so 3/4" would work for both of them. I'm not sure I understand what exactly you are asking, are you just looking for a supplier for flamed maple? If so, then there are several suppliers in North America that may be able to ship to Sweden (I think they should be able to....). Bending a thin 1/4" top is done over one small part, like the arm contour, not over the whole body. If you want to do a carved top, then your only real option is to find some thicker wood. If you have any other questions, just let us know and we'll try to help any way we can. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
  24. This is looking really good! I like the look of walnut and even though I'm generally not a big fan of spikey guitars, I have always loved explorers. What type of inlays are you going to use? I think leaving it simple without any inlays would look nice, but other ideas would work too probably. Keep up the good work!
