  1. Someone here may be able to help too, but try tdpri.com for all things tele, or the mimf.com for plans (in the library). Greg
  2. In the last few days, I've searched on the subject of neck angle and matching top angle on a carved top guitar. I have found a couple of things that didn't jive with each other. One question I have is this: Does the neck angle carved onto the top of the guitar start at the end of the fretboard, or just past the neck pickup cavity? Also, am I right in saying that the second angle on the top (pickup angle) is carved from the neck angle line to the bridge? Or is it just in front of the bridge, so the bridge sits on a dead flat area with the tailpeice? Another Q: On the jigs used to carve the neck angle (Setch's comes to mind), are the beams that the router rides on connected to keep them from splitting apart and dropping the router? Is the best method for using said jig to move from up toward the bridge back, then slide the bars sideways and repeat? Thanks for any advice you can give. Greg
  3. Add me to the chorus of "that's your FIRST guitar!?!?!?" Very impressive. You obviously have the knack for guitar building. I'm sure you have your reasons for not entering into the GOTM contest, but you definitely belong there. Great job bro.
  4. Think Ben Harper. He plays one (or many) made from Koa. Beautiful to look at, and hear.
  5. Looking good. I love teles, especially double bound bodies. Is this bound on back too? Tell us more. Finish, pickup possibilities, etc. I guess it begs for a clearcoat only but maybe a thin sunburst could be nice too. Just spitballing. Nice work.
  6. Scott, Beautiful design and excellent craftsmanship. I love the neck on the second guitar especially. And the neck/body join is a beauty too. Congrats on two fine guitars.
  7. I think it will look good. Sort of PRS-ish, which I like. Is it a left-handed guitar? Thought about which pickups you'll try in it? A piece of advice: put the tone pot in there whether you use it now or not. If you want to use it later and it isn't there, you'll regret it. I know I would. Looking forward to more progress reports. Good luck with 'er.
  8. are you high?or just gullible?hehe Neither. It was one of those questions I already knew the answer to. Well, Google knew the answer, not me.
  9. Very nice work on all of those guitars catfoosh. Congratulations. I would also like to know more about that last guitar (lp4). Was this done as a way to use up some scrap pieces? Can you show us the back of the guitar? Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the scraper tip Marcovis. I'll have to try that on my guitar...if I ever get started .
  11. That is a real beauty, Marcovis. Great job! If you don't mind my asking, what is the technique for the unfinished top edges that (in effect) are binding? Is this area taped off, clear-coated before color-coated, do you use pinstriping tape? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Again, nice work.
  12. Good looking body for sure. I love teles personally, so I look forward to seeing your finished guitar. Good choice on the walnut finish btw. I think it's such beautiful wood with a clear gloss finish on it. I've got some big slabs of walnut that I'm going to build with in the future (my dad doesn't know this yet, but he'll come around ). Who knows...maybe another tele. Good luck with the build.
  13. Great job on the guitar, Goat. Can you tell us anything about the homemade fret caul press pictured in your slide show of the guitar?
  14. Another Pukko vote here. All of these guitars are very well done, but the pukko guitar (you need a model name) just leaps off the screen. One of the most attractive guitars I've seen. Difficult to decide between skelf's bass (because everything he builds is exquisite), marcovis (because the woods and workmanship are so beautiful), and pukko, but his guitar's original yet familiar looks got me. Congratulations to all builders.
  15. You should probably just level it, sand it to the final grit and radius, then dye it with this product: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_supp...oard_Stain.html I've never used it myself but it seems to be what you're needing. Hope that helps. Greg
  16. Doh! I was trying to make that too difficult, wasn't I? Thanks Sambo. BTW, I found many diagrams that might be helpful here: http://www.geocities.jp/dgb_studio/faq_e.htm
  17. My plan is for 2 HBs, a 5 way rotary, one volume and one tone. I found this wiring kit and instructions at stewmac. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...07.html#details. The switch gives you these options: 1. Neck humbucker 2. Outer coils in parallel 3. Outer coils in series 4. Inner coils in parallel 5. Bridge humbucker I would also like the option of having both pups on at once. Any advice on how best to do this?
  18. I agree with you on two fronts: First, that there are lots of helpful people and great information on this site. And secondly, that you've got finishing figured out. Superb work olyen.
  19. Really nice looking guitar you've got going there. Beautiful woods and nifty craftsmanship too. Can't wait to see the finished product.
  20. Really nice work on that guitar johnsilver. I'm slowly accumulating parts and wood for a LP style guitar myself, and I'm sure this project and many others will help me immensely. I'll be tuning in here regularly I think. Just as an aside, because this is Supreme related--and not to hijack your thread--how are the controls installed or replaced in a Gibson LP Supreme? I know the jack has a rectangular opening instead of the usual drilled hole, which would help, but imagine a pot going bad and having to be replaced. Or worse yet, the 3 position switch. Your version uses a control access plate, so you won't have to worry about that, but I'm curious about the Gibson version.
  21. I've built a few pedals (some of them even worked) and here are some sites that helped me: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum (go here first, read up, check links, search, etc.) http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/ http://www.tonepad.com/ http://runoffgroove.com/ http://www.smallbearelec.com/home.html (supplies, parts, etc.) http://www.mouser.com (if they don't have it, you can't get it) Hope this helps.
