Recommended Posts

Hi

This is one of my new models in the process of being built. I have several new shapes which I will be building over the next few months any comments more than welcome.

The spec.

Body wood is Swamp Ash with a Walnut top and black veneer contrast line both from Larry at Gallery.

The neck is Wenge and the board is ebony.

The bass will have standard ACG spec.

looks cool I love the woods your using.

I think the ash and walnut is a great combo.

can you tell us what kind of tone are you getting using ash and walnut. this combo might be good in a music man eddie van hallen style guitar.

what do you thinnk

great looking :D

Russ

Hi

I have not made a bass from this combination of woods before I am hoping to get a good tight but deep bottom end with a smooth top end time will tell but I will certainly let you know how it all works out.

I think the contrast between the woods makes it look pretty good no matter what you use it fof bass or guitar.

Nice top, I love figure walnut! Like above I'm not fan of the shape but as a bass it looks good. Do you have a close up of the black veneer contrast line, Barely visible on your site.

I plan on doing an accent line in my bass, but I think that if I do, it will be 1/8" thick and not a veneer.

Looking good!

That recurve shape works well as a single cut

Agreed - I really like the single cut incarnation.

Thanks Ben and Setch.

The single cut basses are quiet hard work to get right at least I find them harder than the usual type body.

The Recurve is on about the 5th try before I was happy with it.

The Skelf single cut was the original bass I had to make a double cut version of it it took just the 2 attempts.

Are you having the recurve single cut bass with a bolt on neck? I ask because i havejust about finished my singlecut bass and i used a bolt-on neck. I had lot of difficulty getting a design i was happy with that didnt impede playing but i think i got mostly there in the end.

Just curious as to how other people have done bolt-on singlecuts

I like the accent lines

Hi Wez

Yes bolt on. The access is a problem with the single cuts. I will let you know how I get on.

This is a 5 string so there is more room to play with. I think if I have to build a 4 string I would go for a set neck.

I am just about to start a single cut Skelf guitars and it will have a set neck.

More work on both basses.

The pup routes on the Harlot and the neck shaped using an asymmetric profile on this neck. Got the control cavity routed and made up a bibinga cover plate for the Recurve.
