demonx
I can't even afford a CNC - I'm not even going to waste my time asking what one of these machines costs!
Bmth Builder
I can't even afford a CNC - I'm not even going to waste my time asking what one of these machines costs! The link in the OP says they start at like $1300 pretty cheap really.
maull
There is an open source project called RepRap that starts at around 700 bucks. I also just ran across one called Makibox that costs $300 plus $50 for world wide shipping.
WezV
the guitar body is really basic stuff for 3d printing - the current focus of the technology seems to be printing working machines with moving parts. iirc there is an ongoing project to try to print a working 3d printer - once they start self-replicating they will take over the world
NotYou
$1300?! If these actually sound good, that'd be a worthwhile investment for sure. I'm always interested in materials for guitars other than wood. Nothing seems to sound as good or as natural, though.
Tim37
take a look at the 1300 dollar one its not near big enough to print a guitar body. maybe some knobs and pickup covers/rings and small stuff.
Mattia
Kinda nifty. Wonder if there are any decent affordable 3D printing heads out yet that could be retrofitted to a 3 axis CNC machine...
NotYou
take a look at the 1300 dollar one its not near big enough to print a guitar body. maybe some knobs and pickup covers/rings and small stuff. Still worth it!
MiKro
The quality of the prototype 3D printing of the low end types of these machines(RipRap and others) is, messy so to speak. the extrusions lay upon each other and are very noticeable (ridged/ribbed). Now what the guy is using, cost a whole lot more to get that finish. Most likely (50k plus) to get that quality 3D print. I've been looking in to these for prototype work for a particular customer. Reinhold
I went to a place for CAD training recently that resold 3D printers and their largest machine that could print about 20" by 20" was 15-20 thousand dollars if I remember correctly. Don't think the market is cheap enough quite yet on the larger machines.
