I remember from past builds how much you enjoy sanding. SR
Norris
That's one of the most shapely rear covers I've seen. The tung oil looks lovely

Shapely indeed, but (isn't there always a "but"?): The edges of the cavity aren't perfectly straight. Chamfering is an easy way to hide small imperfections like that. Just a few strokes with a flat block and sandpaper would do the trick.
gpcustomguitars
Thanks everyone! Scott, I sanded this so much that I'm actually starting to like it - I still have the chance to fix a few details, so I will try to straighten the cavity a bit. This was a fun build, and a comfy scale length, 32", so I will, among a few other projects, make another one for me from a questionable piece of wood that is already cupped, so a lot less shaping needed. This will be differently constructed to permit the use of this particular piece of wood. It's quite old, probably poplar, so I expect no further movement. It used to be a seat of some kind, got it some years ago.
Bizman62
Recycling wood is something that rings the green bell inside of me!

It's quite innovative to see one follow the contours of the guitar. I like it
Bizman62
@Norris I wasn't referring to the cover, the "but" was for the edge of the cavity for the cover.

And you pull really pretty guitars out of them. SR
gpcustomguitars
Thanks Scott!!! I basically just use what's available and have fun trying to make it work. And I actually like the look of knots and filled cracks, they add some nice character.
gpcustomguitars
I was cleaning my phone and found a few pics of the first stages, when I was splicing the neck blank and the top part together. This was a bit scary in terms of ruining the piece, but worked just fine. Note: all the supporting pieces were held bu double sided tape and the clamps both, didn't want to risk anything slipping. and the same procedure was done for the top part. I left a lot of spare thickness, so after gluing and leveling on the router, there was no problems. gpcustomguitars
Well, after waiting for the parts for a quite a few months, they showed up in a span of a few days, and I was finally able to finish the assembly and give it to my friend. His son has celebrated his 1st birthday a few days ago My friend seems to like the bass a lot, still looking for the perfect setup We actually have started a new project, I've been building him a 8-string Iceman with a reverse head for a while now, some pics to follow soon. Never enough time... Anyway, a few pics of the finished bass:
