^ You've probably already mentioned this, but as I'm rather n00bish as far as Floyds go, could someone tell me the routing dimensions to fit in one of these Schaller Floyd Rose Locking Tremolos. Thanks.

I'm new to this forum and I'm sure I'm not as good as some of the guitar technicians on this site but I have done some guitar and bass modifications and refurbs.
I took a Kahler trem off an old Randy Rhodes Jackson copy and put it on an old flying V that I wanted to start playing again. It worked out good although I had to resess the bridge about 1/4" below the body surface so the string highth would be correct. I also added the locking nut to the machine head and rewired the guitar from an active pickup setup to passive. I made a template of the Kahler trem with the routing hole drawn on a piece of paper and superemposed it to where the old bridge was located. I must've gotten lucky because the intonation was perfect. Keep in mind this was the early eighties version of the Kahler Flyer and I know most guitarist don't like them but I have to say I love it. I hardly ever have to fine tune it even when I really slam the bar all the way down to where the magnet on the on pickups stick on the strings. I'm sure the sustain is not as good as the newer brass ones but the sustain sucked with the old bridge anyway. The string action is much better though and the guitar has a whole new feel to it and now I like playing it. Before I did the modification I didn't like playing it at all. I also took the tuning keys (Grovers) from the other guitar and put them on the V since the gold ones didn't match the color of the Kahler.

Hey guys I'm new to the forum but have used valuable info from the PG website on and off for a couple of years now. I'm in the process of making templates for a JEM/RG style guitar and would like to know the outside diameter of the Ibanez Edge/Lo-Pro Edge Trem post anchors. IE what size hole do I need to drill??

I have a Gotoh GE1996T guitar trem. Is the route pattern for this the same as the floyd Rose original? I'll be installing this into a guitar that I'm preparing to build soon, rather than a guitar than has an existing trem route.

I have the exact same trem, I was told by Stewmac that the Floyd template that they sell (both recessed & non-recessed) are a direct fit.

Thanks Tony. I'm a bass player who started building basses recently. I also just completed one guitar and am about to start the next with this trem. Do guitar players and builders really utilise the recessed option (is it worth it)?

I certainly do, in fact, I'm not comfortable playing the other. Main reason is, I do in fact pull up often, & also, this application is usually utilized on a guitar that has little or no neck angle, as is my preference. My picking hand is much closer to the body & is totally comfortable to me. My hand stays relaxed in this position eliminating fatique.

A note about the Ibanez specs provided:

Ibanez has several different models of tremolo. The Lo Pro and Edge, as well as the Edge II, Edge III, and the loads and loads of others. The original Edge tremolo bridge is no longer in production, as Ibanez opted to cease using a licensed Floyd (In 2003, if I remember correctly).

On the RG570, I double checked the catalog scans on www.ibanezrules.com. That model was available between 1997 and 2002 in the states, and had the original Edge every year. (on a personal note, this solves a problem of mine, I have purchased one of these bridges and need to route the body accordingly. Thanks. )

The serial number is the best place to look for year if you don't know it (I didn't know on my ' 04 JS1000 until I checked yesterday, it plays badass and that's what counts.)

11mm diameter hole for an original Edge according to the manual I found. How deep I don't know, it's on a non recessed bridge.

I don't understand american measurements.... its so complicated... why dont you use much simpler and more accurate measures like millimeters ?
What is 29/32 ???? How do I suppose to understand that?, how do you do it ?

29/32 is exactly 0.90625 inches and is just like 6 millimeters is equal to .6 centimeters. Not that hard to understand, and if you need any more help, google a conversion calculator for inches to cm, mm, etc. Although I do agree that using millimeters is more accurate and simpler

I wouldn't bother with a conversion calculator. Knowing how to convert is far better in the long run.

1" = 2.54cm
Fractions of inches are easy to work out also. 2-5/8" for example is 2x 2.54cm (5.08cm) and the fractional part is (2.54 / 8)*5 > 0.3175 x 5 > 1.5875cm

Anyway. I have my own problem with tremolos right now. I can't find decent measurements for a OFR other than the routing patterns on the Floyd Rose site. In addition, the Schaller licensed Floyds appear to differ in key respects, such as the trem post spacing for example. I presume that by being "licensed", some liberties are taken with the exact dimensions so they aren't exact like-for-like swaps.

To make matters worse, Schallers technical diagrams on their site contain flawed geometry measurements (found some in both trems and tuners) which doesn't instil me with much faith. I'd rather measure the physical item itself on that basis....

I'm drawing up a CAD diagram for the ESP KH-2 (original OFR) and am needing to get either exact ESP routing patterns for the OFR (preferable) or just the OFR specs. Any information on this will be much appreciated (especially from KH-2 owners!).

I think this problem I have found illustrates that licensed FRs cannot be relied upon as being exact copies, and that perhaps we need to look into a formalised methodology on patterning trem routes for [X trem] or [Y trem] as previously mentioned.

Oh yes - there is no real point in converting Metric to Imperial unless you're wanting to faithfully recreate a vintage spear or loincloth using authentic measurement denominations.
