GuitarMaestro
Hi! I completed the first guitar I ever built a week ago. I played it for a week now and am VERY happy with the way it sounds and plays. Theres nothing I don't like. I built the guitar COMPLETELY from scratch. The specs: Body: -One piece black limba body with quilted maple top Neck: - Three stripes Quatersawn soft curly maple (yes it can be done) - Two stripes of Bubinga - Ebony fingerboard - Hot Rod Trussrod Hardware: - Ibanez Low Pro Edge Floyd in Cosmo Black - Ibanez Tuners Cosmo Black - Schaller Locking nut Electronics: - Air norton 7 at the neck - Blaze in the middle - ToneZone 7 at the bridge Finish: - Stained with black & blued dye - Clear coated with Polyester I did everything myself except for the clear coat which was sprayed by a finishing company. Pictures: Please let me know what you think as this was my first ever build from scratch.... Thanks, Marcel! P.s.: Thanks to the forum for being VERY helpful during building this guitar.... feylya
Hee, you're missing a knob I thought that guitar was gorgeous until I saw the back. Now I know it's gorgeous
Hotrock
I want one I haven't got one Wanna sell it to me
litchfield
Needs cover plates. Also, is the back bacci burst and the top blue or purple?? How thick is your top? That thing is very pretty. You really did it all yourself? even the burst?
Maiden69
This is great job. I love the blue on the top. I would have like to see the back of it in transparent black, but the brown looks good... Nice job, ain't going for the September GOTM? What happened to the covers? skibum5545
GOTM!! GOTM!!! GOTM!!! Cmon people, I need some help here! Truly gorgeous. The idea of having the back clear is a good one. When I thought you had painted black limba black, I was crestfallen, but it's good to see that you also liked the wood enough to clear it. The neck is also amazing. The curly maple is really set off by the red in the bubinga strips. I just hope it stays straight! The top is hard to see in the pics, but it looks amazing based on what I can see of it and of the rest of the guitar. WHat's the electronics config? darren wilson
Very nice. Don't care much for the headstock shape, though.
GuitarMaestro
Thanks for the kind words. Hee, you're missing a knob Not only a knob....haha....I miss the whole pot because I ruined it during soldering and don't have a new one yet....who needs a tone pot anyway.... Also, is the back bacci burst and the top blue or purple?? How thick is your top? That thing is very pretty. You really did it all yourself? The top is stained blue and does not look as purplish in reality. The burst is done with black poly. The top is 5mm. I built the whole guitar myself as I already wrote. The clear coat&burst was NOT done by me and is the only exception. I would have like to see the back of it in transparent black, but the brown looks good It just the color of the wood. No brown was used. Concerning the covers: Hehe....I know....I am just building them from colored but still transparent plexi....but first I need to play it some more.... Again thank you VERY much for the nice comments and your help during building it....
krazyderek
GOTM!!!!! GOTM!!!!! GOTM!!!!!! very nice dude, i love the contrasting yellow and blue sides, the inlay is pretty out there !!!!! lol and i think the top is just the shade of dark blue for that guitar, matche's the ebony perfectly! hope she treats you well! GuitarMaestro
The curly maple is really set off by the red in the bubinga strips. I just hope it stays straight! I have no fear here....the Bubinga is the toughest wood I ever worked with. I bet one bubinga stripe alone could hold up against the seven strings.... WHat's the electronics config? I posted the PU config....what is it exacly you want to know? The switching? It's a usual strat switching scheme. but in the combinations where the middle pu and a humbucker is active the humbucker gets split.... P.s.: I just entered it into gotm as you ordered.... 82DeanZ
Man, that thing looks good enough to eat! Very nice. I especially love the neck. Just beautiful. One question. It looks like the neck pocket is slightly angled back. Is there a reason for this? I could understand if it was a TOM bridge. Just curious. Again, nice job! Best Regards, Mike. GuitarMaestro
it looks like the neck pocket is slightly angled back. Wow....you have good eyes....Yep it is slightly angled back. I had to do that because I did not want to put the floyd even deeper in the guitar, as I like the strings to be at least about 10mm above the body....Thanks for the compliments btw!!!!! Forgot to add: Only the body was not clear coated by me....The neck I did myself....
kings_x
Wow! Take a picture inside without the glare so we can get a good look at the figure of that top. I love that deep blue color.

GuitarMaestro
Thanks again for liking my guitar!!!! can i ask you a question, How Did You Do the finishing on the body? the Whole Shabang! Sure. The top was stained black with StewMac liquid dye. Then sanded back. Then I added a layer of blue. I did alot of finetuning at this stage: adding a little more blue here and sanding something away there, etc. Then the black burst on the backside and the clear coat was done with Poly by a finishing company. The neck I finished myself with two-component satin poly urethane. The peghead was dyed like the body and then finished with a hi-gloss polyurethane paint from a spray can. Looks great but you stole the inlay idea that I was going to steal from Yamaha I don't even now that Yamaha does something similar. I really came up with it myself and wanted the sign for infintiy there. Which model has that inlay? Thanks, MK! P.s.: If you want to see some pics of the building process I can post them here....
