  1. back to the original question a nice martin
  2. i dont know about iron gear but i have delt with emg's and here is what i would do. forget the bypass switch and cap swtich use the larger capacitor actives react different to the tone circuit i would do 18v and use a higher value pot 500k is fine it will give you nearly the same effect as a bypass swtich without anouther switch to mess with.
  3. I would say fender and gibson both, the koreans and japanese seem to have a handle on making guitars that feel consistent.
  4. i personaly like the fender style switches but as long as its a good switch it will work fine.
  5. pic of how you have the 5 way wired? first thing i would do is drop a three way switch in there i have a feeling thats the issue.
  6. I would treat it for termites either way befor i put it with any of my other wood just to make sure they dont destroy your wood suply or shop. Just find some pesticide that works on termites follow the directions.
  7. "that red thing with two pins"= capacitor or cap. check this diagram out and see if it helps. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=standard_tele for your humbucker what your gonna do is use the outside metal part of the wire for the ground and the other is your hot wire.
  8. I have found sand paper works great for shimming necks jus fold it to desired thickness.
  9. i think gibson uses 500k pots it wouldnt hurt to try a 250k pot but if your wanting to cut out some of the highs you really need to use a tone knob for the best results.
  10. ca should do it if you are refreshing the whole guitar you could fill it with ca then scuff the whole thing and put a new coat of clear but im with wes play it enjoy it and dont fret over it. if your scared to scratch it hang it on the wall and go buy one your not scared to scratch.
  11. Yes you can. All humbuckers have four wires its just that some are connected at the factory and only have two leads coming out. So what has to be done is take the pickup apart and add long leads. Its alot easier said than done and probably isnt worth all the work to do it.
  12. +1 it will take a little time sanding to a final fit but it will be worth it.
  13. well its a good thing you asked the wiring diagram isnt for splitting coils its used to mute your pickups. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_1v_1t_3w_1pp here is the one you want that is if you have a two knob setup. overall the wiring on a splitcoil is pretty simple all your doing is grounding the two wires that are connected. also i wouldnt buy the whole kit all you need is two 500k push pull pots.
  14. instead of using a router could you use a grinder with a flapper disk in the area with the scroll work?
  15. It should work fine. There is also the option with the zero fret of grounding just one tuner. Is there a reason your wanting to avoid the metal plate behind thr bridge?
  16. ok if i understand your worried about there being a thicker piece of wood on the back than the front. just find a way to hide it. 1 use binding then black out the sides of the guitar to hide any glue joints. 2. burst with black edge with sides 3. extra thick binding.
  17. i would say like a guitars sound itself a pickups sound is a combination of things. magnetic field, field placement, magnet strength. but also i would say coil inductance has a big part in the sound of a pickup.
  18. i would use push/pull pots and wire it like this. start with a standard tell wired with a 3way switch use one push pull pot as a series parallel for the humbucker. then use the other push/pull to swap the phase on the neck pickup. that should give you. 1 bridge series 2 bridge parrallel 3 neck 4 neck, bridge series 5 neck, bridge parallel 6 neck, bridge series out of phase 7 neck, bridge parallel out of phase
  19. Some one once told me this and it turned out to be true. "The best way to ruin a good hobby is to try and make a living with it"
  20. want money: get a job want to build guitars: get a job if you are serious i would start by hiting the local music shops and see if they are hiring for any thing then work your way to repair and setup the second places would be hardware stores/ lumber shops that way you can get a discount on tools and wood.
  21. i would think spending a summer in texas in a steel container would get any thing pretty dry if not put it in your old truck and let it sit in the cab and dry that should do it.
  22. the neck angle is the easy part of a one piece its simply done by not angling the neck.
