  1. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like an interesting project to get your feet wet with.
  2. What kill said, or if you have the machinery to do it like a drum sander you could take off the excess.Have you routed the neck pocket yet?
  3. Nice looking design. Simple and classic. Really interested in seeing the carve top version.
  4. Thx Scott. I dont know why shooting guitars is such a pain. I'm struggling to get some decent shots today. Just trashed about 100 shots looking for a few good ones. Getting ready to start in on round 2 as I write this.
  5. Despite some minor hiccups hat came out awesome Scott. Love the top. I'd love to get my hands on it to put it through some paces. Any chance of a short demo vid?
  6. WelI I for one appreciate all the work you put into this site Carl. Keep up the good work.
  7. Well its finally finished. I expected this to be done a few weeks ago but ran into a bunch of speed bumps. This build fought coming into the world a few times. Some of were setup issues and some were hardware. I'll go into some detail when I post some better pictures and have a little more time. In the meantime I'm just excited to have it finished so I'm throwing up a preview pic. I'll post some better shots after I have some time to break out the tripod and get properly prhotographed.
  8. Right around an hour to an hour and a half.
  9. This build seems to be fighting back quite a lot. But so far its Looking very nice Scott.
  10. To me the flaws in the clear coat are quite visible. Its quite cloudy. *rimshot* Looks great dude.
  11. Man that came out super nice. It almost pains me to know a 9 year old is going to take it out on the street and beat on it.
  12. Wow has it been a month already? I'm busting out my wet sanding paper today. I put my clear coat on a little thinner this time so I'm crossing my fingers I dont sand through.
  13. When you say respray are you thinking of stripping the whole thing down? I would think that you could get away with just a few additional topcoats and that those would hide your witness lines.
  14. Holy crap Scott!! When I read that I thought you were joking until I scrolled down. Man I dont even know what to say. That would put me in a bad mood for about a week. Time to start drinking heavily and step away from this for a day till you regain composure.
  15. Depends on how much trouble she's going to give me on the final polish and buffing I guess. She jumped off my little bench and bruised her ass after I took those shots, so I've got to heal that up first. I seem to be making a habit of that. Odds are still good I'll get to assemble it this weekend. Oh man does that suck. In the spirit of full disclosure I think you should be documenting that little flub for us to see.
  16. Looking good. So how much longer till we get to see this in its final state?
  17. I like the black personally. Looking at your vids I'm just amazed at how quickly you work. I think I'd screw something up going that fast.
  18. I store my parts in tackle boxes. Both the flip out kind and and the flat storage box kind. You can pick these up reasonably cheap and they make different sizes. The thing I like best is you can make the compartments different sizes to suite what ever your going to be storing in them. Personally I put all the parts that are going into an individual build in one box. Then they are all ways there when you need them.
  19. I'd like to try and check a brand new guitar one day. I've tried the upside down duster can on a sample and it instantly checks. It sounds like crumpling up a bag of potato chips.
  20. Thanks guys. It should gas off a little slower and gives it a little more time to lay out. My main reason is that it goes through the gun much better this way. The burst was thinned down so much because I shot it through a badger 150 airbrush with a medium tip. A little slower, but much finer atomization and better control. It tool a full ten min to lay down that little bit of color around the edges.
