  1. I'm with you on the lefthandedness suck factor. Thats why I first went this route, I was sick of the same three colors and pickup combinations on cheap guitars with a ridiculous upscharge. I bought a Les Paul style bolt neck from Warmoth and would have to say the quality is very high. I wouldn't call their stuff cheap by any standards though. If possible finish it yourself, especially the neck. For anything other than maple they add 30$ on top of the listed price on the web. Scott
  2. I'm new to this also and was wondering about the bits in paticular. I've got the regular router bit for the big stuff, and a few different ball end bits for the undercut, but what shape is recommended for following your line. Is it the little cone shaped one or the small square ended one.
  3. Drak, Ted Nuget never did any drugs! LOL. But seriously wheres the SRV someone just jammed bamboo shoots under my toenails but I'm still not talkin' look. I guess mine would probably be that kind of "mumble out your riff like you're a old man with no teeth" type look
  4. My dad got one about 2 years ago. The grinder itself worked fine but the switch gets pretty tempramental after about the second use, didn't want to stay on. He ended up replacing the switch and it' been fine ever since. His was the small 4" ginder by the way. Scott
  5. I messed around with one in the store a while back. Basically it's a very small four-track. If I remember correctly you can store up to 64 virtual tracks and it all records on to a memory card like you use in a digital camera. The digital effects on it sound terrrible like most on-board digital effects, and the prerocorded precussion beats are pretty lame. But if your looking for a small recording console it's a better deal than the Boss BR4, which has pretty much the same options. The Korg seemed more user friendly to me. When I priced it almost a year ago it was in the low 3's but I'm sure it has come down now. Just try it out and ask tons of questions to the guys in the store. Hope that helps, Scott
  6. Personally I like the diamond plate looks for pickguards, cabs, etc. One thing you gotta rember though is weight, it's STEEL. Even the aluminum is a good bit heavier than a normal pickguard or something. That being said you can also look at most places that sell car stuff (Try J.C. Whitney) they usually stock panels about 2'x3' which could get you a lot of guards out of. Plus it comes already polished which will save you roughly 1 million hours
  7. Finally got around to reading your router tutorial. A+ work man, great job Scott
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the hole on the strap either need to be lengthened or just wear bigger, which would cause the same problem as before. If you don't want the matal part on your strap look for a "surelock" strap. They have a plastic end where your button goes through and then it has a little seatbelt type snap that locks it on. I've had one for about 5 years and they work great.
  9. Hey Dave, I don't know of any brand names for sure but I have seen them. It was at a place called "Ye Olde Hobby Shoppe" in Altoona, PA. No idea if they have a sight or are even in buisness anymore. They didn't pop up like 9V boxes but had a lid more like a TV remote. Do you have any model train or RC shops near you to check?
  10. Any place that does interior work for cars will have thin CF like material for laminating on dashes and such. It's not really carbon fiber usually but you can't tell by looking at it. It could be used like the acrylic inlay tutorial where you just lay the sticker under the acrylic and use clear glue. No sand throughs or toxins at all. Check on ebay, there's a number of dealers that sell it in self adhesive sheets for little money. Also go to any custom auto stores, they usually have it, especially the ones for making rice-rockets.
  11. If you check out a high end hobby store that has parts for model trains and such they have 'em. Some of the train stores have them for lighthing tiny buildings or signs and stuff, they're made to sit up inside the base from underneath and they mount flush. Good luck.
  12. Well. I usually pick out my own presents but this year santa is bringing me a better dremel with the flex shaft and the router base, assorted router bits, jewlers saw, and workmate...........and cookies
  13. Have you tried selling those one Ebay, thats a great price your offering surely you could almost double that in an auction. Just don't want you to get cheated, that being said would you consider letting just two of them go? If so how much? Email me a Bingo328@yahoo.com if interested.
  14. To be verified your paypal account should also be linked to a bank account. You give them your bank account numbers and they will make 2 small deposits of around 20 cents each. You have to go to your bank a few days later and find the amounts of the deposits and report back to paypal. One word of advice. Set up a new bank account just for paypal and only keep in a little money for purchases. It's well worth the aggrevation of transferring money between two accounts. Paypal had a lot of trouble in the past with scams where people would get messages asking you to confirm your password in a certain amount of time or your account would be deactivated. Many people did this and got their bank accounts wiped clean and the banks weren't responsible. The emails looked exactly like the paypal sign in screen. Be sure to check the address bar anytime you enter passwords for anything involving money, it shoud start with HTTPS:/ the "S" is for secure. This hold true for anything on the internet. Also a lot of companies and ebay sellers will only ship to verified or confirmed addresses because thats the only way paypal will cover a product. Sorry about the novel but its all sound advice. Scott
  15. Back in my skateboarding days I new a bunch of kids who would get new skate shoes and rub holes in them with the grip tape and then shoe goo them up. I think thats kindof along the same lines but the empty cases is a new one for me. Maybe their just on the way to buy a guitar?
  16. I usually end up changing mine about every 3 months or so. Although I would like to more. It's sad when you save for a 5 or 6 dollar pack of strings. I find that even if I don't play a paticular guitar that much they still loose the tuning stability and that new string sound after a few weeks. I have started cleaning my strings more regularly and it helps them last but they always seem to feel greasy no matter how much wiping I do. Any cures for this.
  17. Derek, when direct mounting pickups you can use screws instead of bolts, and then use small washers as spacers if necessary. Probably not the only way of doing it but thats how I've seen it done. I've just been wondering if there is a way to mount EMG's so you don't even see the screws on the side, just the block of the pickup, I think it would look sweet.
  18. I usually tune down to full D but thats as low as I go typically. I agree you need to go up a gauge or two when tuned down or the strings get to wiggly and rubberbandish. Anyone else try/prefer the elixers?
  19. Nice tip. Anyone ever use GooGone? You can get it for about 3 bucks from target or Wallyworld and some hardware stores. Just wipe a little on with a paper towel and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Glue comes away so much easier. I've even used it to take decals off of my truck and thats very stong glue. I've never had a problem with it hurting the finish either. I usually just polish (guitar) or wax (truck) after to keep the finish protected.
  20. Done lots of buying and selling. Never had any major problems. I also read any negative or neutral feedback. Sometimes I read the feedback of the people that left the seller the negatives. Easy way to find the serial complainers. Ebay insures buys only up to 500$ minus 25$ to file the complaint. If buying bigger ticket items escrow isn't a bad idea. Figure on adding roughly 3 to 5 percent but it's well worth it as opposed to getting taken for a grand or so. BTW Lichfield, what is Kench?
  21. I usually use Ernie Ball 11's. I like the heavier feel for bends and I think the bigger strings make bigger sounds. I also LOVE the Elixer strings but refuse to pay 11-15$ per pack. I recieved a trial set in the mail when they first came out and their awesome. Smooth feel and they last about 4 times longer than regular strings. But if I find a good deal I'll use just about any strings.
  22. Gotta agree on Cliff em all, that guy was pure genius, you know the night he was killed he had switched bunks on the bus with Kirk.
  23. One thing to remeber are those dimensions are usually for rough cut lumber. You could end up loosing a 1/4" or more depending on wood type.
  24. Thats a possibility, however it's a rosewood bridge that has some fairly heavy figuring, plus it's kindof beat up because it was my first guitar and back in the day I used to pop out the bridge pins with a flat screwdriver. Plus I already got a sweet Macassar Ebony bridge for 7 bucks.
  25. So I'm going to convert my righty acoustic to a true lefty. I've got the new bridge blank witch is the exact same size as my other. I'm assuming I can just mirror the dimensions for the channel for the bridge peice right? I read an older topic on removing the old bridge and that sounds pretty simple. I couldn't find anything on surface prep or gluing tips for the new bridge though. Anyone have any ideas or comments to help?
